[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
BPA replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/10046520-potential-nhl-landing-spots-for-vancouver-canucks-forward-jt-miller.amp.html Bleacher Report - thinks Miller wants 7-8yr contract (cuz Kadri deal). Dhaliwal also considers Miller comparable to Mika Zibanejad. So $8.5M. Possible trade destinations = BOS, COL, CBJ, NYI, and WAS. -
Canucks should be in the wildcard mix. Maybe lock up 3rd spot if they are lucky.

Bingo!! Canucks started Demko vs other teams backups (from Eastern teams). If teams played their starter, the win/loss ratio may not be as good as you think. Mind you some teams doing the west coast trip probably were playing back-to-back so may have started their backups against the Canucks anyways.

You would also need to factor in that other teams may also play Canucks harder and have their #1 goalie start instead of the backups. It won’t be as easy as some people think. -

Still required Demko to play in god-mode. Then he burnt out near the end. Hopefully SM can play more games (and win) to give Demko much needed breaks. -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Noah Dobson
BPA replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Dobson got 50+ pts last year as a RHD. RHD is a premium position. Should have at least gotten $6M on a bridge contract. Unreal. -

Wow!!! That’s a very team friendly deal. For 3 years!!!! -

NYI are probably trying to trade Varlamov and his $5M contract (hello Vegas??) and get a cheaper backup goalie ($1M??) Then they would have that cap space (about $4M) to improve the forward core. -

NYI has about $7.4M in cap space according to Cap Friendly -

That’s the problem. Posters here want Miller (and Bo) back but not at all costs. The numbers have to make sense. Currently they do not. -

If trading with NYI…Raty and Dufour looked good in the world jrs. -

Determining Front Loaded vs. Non-Front Loaded: calculated by weighing the salary average of the first-half of the contract with that in the of the entire contract length Front Loaded Contracts: the salary variance in any adjacent years cannot exceed 35% of the salary in the first contract year regardless of whether the salary is increasing or decreasing & the lowest salary year cannot be less than 50% of the highest salary year Non-Front Loaded Contracts: any salary increases in adjacent years may not exceed the lower of the first two years of the contract & any salary decreases in adjacent years may not exceed 50% of the lower of the first two years of the contract Edit: https://businessofhockey.wordpress.com/2021/03/15/updating-the-nhl-contract-calculator-for-new-salary-variability-rules/ -

Not possible. There’s a rule in place about the differential between the 1st and last year of the contract. -

After the Worlds Jr, if Miller is traded to NYI and Dobson is off the table, I’d ask for… Miller (50%) for Raty + Dufour + Wahlstrom Canucks load up on top prospects. And maybe can flip other wingers to upgrade D. It would be step back for a couple years for sure. But we’d get premium ELC forwards that will come in when EP and QH should be ramping up (hopefully). Raty looked really good in the World Jr. -

Bo for $6.5-$7M x 8yrs would be great. Even better if it could be under $6.5M . -

I also believe that only 2 Defenceman should have big contracts ($6M and above). That’s QH and OEL. Need to move Myers for cheaper RHD (I know…impossible). Think a #3-4 Dman should get around $4M. -

I also believe strong down the middle is the way to go. Wingers are (should be) easier to find. Boeser, Mik, and Kuze just signed so don’t think they’d be traded this year. So that leaves Garland, Pearson and Dickinson to move out for cheaper wing depth. -

Perhaps retaining 50% of Millers cap will be more enticing and attract more suitors. A 99pt player for just $2.625M should make some heads turn.
