What we got in a return is a present day upgrade of 2 players,  1 of those in the position of D that totally outweighs Horvats worth,  and in Beauviller, a Forward that gathers as many points as Horvat.

We also acquired a promising aggressive Center in Raty , who might turn out to be a 2C or better.

If the Captain of a Team is only so good,

how does a team push him out of the way to become better themselves.

We can say the Teams were mismanaged,  but  Horvat was not spectacular.

Beavillier is almost doubling Horvats point total thus far with thiernew team. Horvat only has 9 points in 20 games. Not surprising i figured Bo playing in a very defense first system would have that effect

No brighter at all, much worse.  At least in past years we had high end guys ready to graduate like Petterson, Hughes, Podkolzin, etc.

It is quite likely none of the guys on the list ever crack the top half of a roster and most of them never even make it to the NHL.

A bunch of AHL calibre guys isn’t the same as a couple of high end talents. Every team in the league has a bunch of prospects this level.

This is a terrible take, sorry.

Hughes and Petey not only made the team their first year, they were immediate impact players. They were never developing prospects in the AHL.

If you think our prospect pool is worse now than a few years ago you have been living under a rock.

31 games in the NHL and 28 in the AHL this season.

Regardless that’s one player that has top 6 potential.

I’ve seen people dress up our prospect pool before. Right now it’s still pretty poor. That’s the issue with losing so many 1st and 2nd round picks. It’s so much harder to build up high end depth.

We desperately need depth at the Center position and on D and it would be nice to have another top goalie prospect coming up behind Silovs. Hopefully they can solve that in the upcoming draft.

Agree, but players like Raty, Lekkerimaki, Klimovich, Podz don't necessarily get developed to play bottom 6 roles. They are all high skill guys what have been prolific scorers in their careers, they play a skill game and are offensive minded...they will be groomed and likely expected to play top 6 roles. They may start bottom 6 to watch their minutes, but the end goal for those guys would 100% be future top 6 skill guys. I think all of those guys are capable of doing so...that's typically where 1st / 2nd rounds picks like Lerkkerimaki, Podz, Raty, Klim would be drafted to play.

Podz has played over 100 NHL games now so I wouldn’t consider him a prospect anymore.

Again a lot of good support players and bottom 6/depth D players not a whole lot that screams impact player.

He's 21 and has played majority in the AHL this year and hasn't carved out a full time role...that's a prospect in my eyes anyway.

Until we get more high end prospects it will continue to be considered poor.

We have lots of players that could play support and depth roles, not alot of top 6 or top 4 potential.

I was just saying signing an over PPG defensive prospect is pretty tough to pick apart, especially since it's an area (D) of weakness for this team...

Happy for Horvat, he's doing really good and is carrying them into the playoffs.  I hope they make it.

I think this article is pretty sensationalized by a local writer TBH - trying to pump the tires of the trade., Beavilliers numbers are even more impressive since being traded.

If this isnt obvious to people already, then i don’t think they have been watching oel play this season. Our defence improved by just subtracting O and replacing him with marginal level NHL players in Breezer and Wolanin.

But it seems like O has been playing injured? Yet he put up decent amount of points. My guess is O is back in the lineup next season if he is 100%. They don’t have a choice. Aqullini is not going to sign off on a buyout of that magnitude.

It really put it into perspective when AHL guys come in and not just fill the void, but play notably more impactful hockey. Wolanin would have 4 goals easily already, and he's +4., I know part of that is Demko being back and perhaps better systems play but it's still relevant.

This blueline looks better without OEL than with him, it's pretty easy to see with the eye test.
