Holy moly! didn't see this coming....would have liked to see us hold on to the Islanders conditional 1st....but we did need a young RHD and Hronek is that. You don't get young RHD without giving up picks so it seems about right. On on the fence with this one right now, we really need high end picks. More moves coming, they will try and get more picks back....

Do you know the odds of one of those picks turning into anywhere even close to resembling Pettersson? -
2019/2020 Tampa put him on waivers, after being a healthy scratch and playing in the AHL. He was essentially their 7th defenseman. They did offer him another contact (likely 2-way league min.) but chose to come to Van where he would actually be in the top 6. Tampa didn't dump him, but I wouldn't say they pursued him either. He only played 66 games in 2 seasons with them.

People need to realize Schenns value to the Canucks is not = to his value to other teams or the rest of the league. There are more sellers than buyers, the supply is higher than demand. A 3rd for Schenn is great considering we claimed him off waivers not long ago. If you're underwhelmed by the return you're simply inflating his value because of sentiment. He's a bottom pairing depth dman on pretty much all the top playoff teams. With all the other players on the marker...a 3rd for Schenn is good return. For a fan base that gets so upset when we trade away picks it's ironic that we somehow don't like receiving them either.

We have a bad blueline Schenn is a 6th/bottom pairing DMAN on majority of NHL teams and definitely on playoff bound teams. Schenn's value to us is not = to his value to the rest of the league. Once you detach the sentimental value, he's a 33 year old, one dimensional dman who's very slow and was waiver fodder a couple years ago. He's a great leader 100% and plays with physical edge. Those are not especially rare in the league, We like to inflate players value when we want to be critical of managements moves, but there's nothing wrong with getting a 3rd for a player we claimed off waivers lol my goodness.

Why? He was waiver fodder not long ago. Why keep him until the end of the season when we can get a 3rd round pick by trading him and then re-sign him in the summer? What's not to like about that.....it's either get a 3rd round pick or don't....why would you not? 3rd rounder is exactly what his value was. We were never getting more. His value hasn't been this high in YEARS, take advantage of it.

This guy was waiver fodder not long ago and people aren't happy about getting a 3rd for him lol okie doke. We want to rebuild the blueline - you gotta move guys out. Stillman, Schenn etc Oel and Myers would be first but let's be honest we can't move them until a buyout this summer. This is the highest Schenn's value has been in YEARS - they took advantage of it. They JR and PA want to get younger and faster, keeping Schenn or re-signing him does neither. Still a chance he re-signs in summer.
