[Rumour] Time's up! Finish your last sentence...
Harold Drunken replied to AngryElf's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nah, I have feeling they aren't done. Miller, Boeser, Garland, maybe even Demko (I'd be surprised, but Silovs has played well) likely being discussed. Miller and Demko would both bring a 1st back for sure to get back the 1st they paid for Hronek. They are too tight on the cap, they pretty much need to move something out now. -
Exactly, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't on CDC. For example, people clamoring for picks are upset when we trade Schenn for one. If we give up a 3rd they are upset, but when we get a 3rd in return they are underwhelmed. Same with getting Hronek, they want Allvin to address the blueline and improve for months now but don't wan to give anything up to do so. It doesn't work that way, you're going to have to sacrifice one area to improve another. I would have rather had that 1st, but when you look at the big picture and what they said they intend to do it makes sense. It was a pretty steep price, but as is the case with most young RHD defenseman. Upgrading our blueline isn't going to be easy, and it's going to cost them whether that be buyouts, picks or prospects. We still don't have a lot of "blue chip/high end" prospects, so picks really is the one of the only ways to upgrade the D right now. Outside of Petey, Hughes, Demko and maybe Miller nobody else is bringing a good young D back in a trade, that's the reality. We've been sitting here begging the guys to improve the D, but like clockwork once they actually do just that we find something about it to pick apart and complain about lol

100%, Boeser, Garland, OEL, Myers etc. aren't bring back good young RHD or higher picks. We will likely be ADDING assets to get rid of them. The only way we improve our blueline with adding good young Dmen is with picks and assets. This isn't a particularly great draft for defenseman, so I can understand why they made this trade. I really wanted that other 1st round pick though.

IMO they also made this trade because they feel Hronek is better than any defenseman they would target between pick 13 to 15 or so. Consensus is it will be forward heavy the first 15 picks....they probably like Hronek more than the guys in that range. Pretty much a given we are going forward with our first pick.

Whether they do it now or in the summer the cost would likely be very similar. We have all been clamoring for them to improve the blueline for years now....and when we do it we get upset lol. The cost is the cost, whether we get a young RHD now or In the summer it would cost similar picks or assets....
