https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/team-president-trevor-linden-admits-canucks-rebuild/ ?? Still not enough? I get he was hesitant to so say "full" rebuild...truth is they were starting to rebuild years prior....if they they weren't they were missing the playoffs and finishing near the bottom of the league from lack of talent and poor coaching? Sedins or not. And if they weren't they should have been because the team was awful.

Yes, and they talent and are performing at a high level than the Canucks too. You can make an argument that there was talk and moves being made while Linden was there that were geared towards rebuilding. In fact, from what I've read is the main gripe between Linden and ownership was the rebuild wasn't happening fast enough, and that Linden wanted to do it the old fashioned way while ownership somehow wanted to do it faster while trying to stay competitive., So I would argue the rebuild was happening prior to 2018...based on the product on this ice, I hope so. Regardless, the team was bad then and doesn't look any better now.

It doesn't take 8 years to rebuild a team...if you're looking for answer. If after 8 years a G.M hasn't achieved the "rebuild", made the team competitive, fighting for playoff seeds that's called failure and underachievement. You can seriously sit there and say "it takes time to rebuild" after this long? If after 8 years the team isn't competitive, not making the playoffs, at the bottom of the league in most statistical categories, against the cap then it's time to start another rebuild lol. To sit there and say "these things take time" is insane, how much time? How many years does Jim get to achieve his master plan? 10 years, 15 years? 20 years? At some point we have to look at the last 8 years and admit this team and Jim has achieved very little. An upward trajectory can be slight, and if the curve is flat enough could take 20 years to become a positive...before covid, improving by 2-3 wins a year and missing the playoffs is not really considered an upward trajectory in the sports world....that's considered failure, again.

Losing seasons 6 of 8 years Missed playoffs 6 of those years (obviously) By improving, you mean still being under .500...just a couple games less each year right? Rebuilding team?? How long does/should a rebuild take in your eyes. How many years have we been rebuilding in your opinion?? "Until covid hit" good god, really? You are living in an alternate reality chief. You're delusional.

The blind, aggressive defense of Benning on this board often baffles me...I don't fall in the category that Benning is inept and terrible - he's done some good things....but to completely ignore the on ice product and the statistics over the last 7 years is fascinating really. They argue as if it couldn't possibly be the builder of the team's fault, the guy who trades, drafts, re-signs etc. couldn't possibly have any responsibility in the team's performance.

I get it, you can say that about anything in sports though....it's just discussion - nobody here (well I hope not) actually thinks their comments have any weight on decisions that get made. As a lifelong fan, it's ok to be frustrated and discuss these things. Of course there's nothing you can do about it, but as a fan of the team you still give a sh*!. We are pushing into a decade of mediocrity, and finishing as low as we have as many times as we have we should be much more competitive by now. Bad contracts have handcuffed this team for a long time...you can really only blame so many people for what's going on.....unfortunately the G,M and ownership have the most responsibility for all this, therefore it falls on their shoulders. Add to this that the team is up against the cap, have one of the highest paid blue lines in the league and the on ice product looks like it does.....well the proof is right in front of your eyes...
