I thought Hamonic played well for us...I wouldn't mind seeing him back for d depth for the right price.
-
Appleton would be a very nice addition.

Absolutely nobody wants or is willing to take Loui and his contract on, unless we are taking a terrible contract in return. Don't get me wrong, that's a one sided trade for us but would never happen. A player as overpaid and underperforming as that is untradeable - he's a buyout candidate not a trade piece. That being said, Tierney would be a nice addition.

Weren't you on here a couple days ago calling me useless? How is this comment any better? It's ok to criticize two of the most iconic, classy players in Canucks history who have spent countless hours helping and volunteering in the community and donating millions of dollars to it- but don't question anything about the GM or current sub-par players or thems fightin' words? You make no sense chief.

So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?
Harold Drunken replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
You saw it with the NFL draft this year, it was even more of a roll of the dice than normal. Lack of ability to evaluate talent compared to years past - many used their draft chips to improve their teams now with a player that you know what your getting with. If the right player is available, would have no problem trading for a player that can help our team now and isn't past their prime. We are set up nicely in goal with Demko, Dipietro for young guys. We have some promising young forwards on the team and in the system and what they need it 3rd and 4th line support - which I don't think you draft at #9 overall but can happen to develop them. I think if you draft for need you go defense, but how drafting goes they'll likely take their highest ranked player available. A center would be nice as well. Mason Mctavish or Chaz Lucius. -
They'll learn, same as how many ex-NHL players had to "learn" to be a GM - that start's with operations, scouting, development.. The majority of current NHL GM's are ex players and they had to start somewhere. With hockey knowledge, ability to evaluate players/talent and drive/ambition they could do very well. I think they are bringing a fresh perspective, attitude and maybe some ideas. I believe they will start working more closely with our AHL affiliate with player development etc. They don't necessarily need to know exactly what the are doing off the bat, but they know hockey and likely can evaluate players etc.

[Rumour] Tkachuk may want out of Calgary
Harold Drunken replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think you weren't far off, Minus Boeser....that would be a king's ransom for Tkachuk. 9thOA and a good prospect would seem realistic. Still wouldn't want to do it as Tkachuk is an idiot. -

Harold Drunken replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I could honestly see a Tkachuk for Eichel trade of some sort - with some other pieces involved. Or maybe like the Laine - Dubois trade....swapping a pair of disgruntled or underperforming players in a gamble that one or the other finds their inner peace again lol. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Vasili Podkolzin
Harold Drunken replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Podkolzin is going to fill a major role for sure, and a need which is a guy who brings energy and a hard nosed edge night in and night out. I think he makes this team next year honestly like Hoglander did - at least play some meaningful games. Third line to start, move him around based on what we see. I'm excited, excited to watch Rathbone as well liked what I saw from those handful of games. I know this, he's going to win puck battles, something we struggled with. -

Fair enough, back to Podkolzin indeed. -
If this team is 5-6 years away from competing, and we've been "rebuilding" for 7 - I'm confused about timelines here. Horvat is the captain and Miller are main contributors - I'm interested in how you think that the team will somehow be better without Horvat and Miller? If that's what you're saying...

Harold Drunken replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Exactly, and I've never said he's been an epic failure, simply that quite a few bad contracts, trading away a lot of picks and signings are what's holding this ream back from taking the next step and it's not how you rebuild a team - trading for rental players like Toffoli is counter productive when rebuilding. We have a great young core but year after year struggle to build around them with support and depth because of cap issues. I've said numerous times it's not all bad with Jim, but I get jumped on as if I'm saying he's useless by people who refuse to admit he's made some pretty glaring bad choices and it does show in the ice (Jim has admitted this). The future however is very bright if we keep drafting and developing like we have, if you couple that with smarter FA signings and cap management this team is going to be very good. -

For sure that's all I'm saying, some of his major whiffs in FA and trades are what's really holding the team back. Our drafting has been excellent in recent years, and is the only reason we have a great young nucleolus and are competitive. We just lack the support around them and the depth to take the next step - mostly because of some bad contracts and signings. If we keep drafting well and make some better decisions around that - the sky is the limit as long as the cap is managed better than it has been. Life long Canucks fan and always will be, I'm not typically negative, I pissed a few people off on here this week so I guess I need to tone it down haha. -

Yeah not terrible, that would be decent if he were a president or prime minster as far as approval ratings go. However that's closer then what it's lead on to be. I still haven't said he's terrible GM, simply that his track record isn't as fantastic as people on here are willing to admit that's all (other than the draft). But anything that questions or somewhat negative on here is like hate speech. But when you have people on here saying he's literally never made a bad trade or FA signing it's really a lost cause. -

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-fans-divided-gm-jim-benning Not as in the minority as you think. How long does it take to rebuild a team? How long does Jim get? Why aren't we further ahead? Must be COVID's fault right? I guess 7 years is too tight of a window to rebuild ...you guys are completely ignoring the big picture. But this is what CDC is known for , you get jumped on unless your blowing smoke up each other and saying cup or die next year. Based on your opinion above, Jim has never made a bad trade OR free agent singing....that's amazing really, and still hasn't won GM of the year- that's crazy??. And still this team is where it is....but yes let's just keep saying all his work has been flawless because that's realistic. -

The only thing you proved is your opinion differs from mine haha. Linden Vey was a 4th round (96th overall) draft pick and a perennial AHL player (yes he put up point in the AHL but lots of players do). So, you think giving up a 2nd round pick for a 4th round AHL player who played two partial seasons for us is a fair trade?? Yes, and I'm the one lacking hockey knowledge. You guys refuse to admit Benning isn't a saint. I'm not even saying he's terrible, simply pointing out his flaws...you guys get so uncomfortable talking about this unless it's looking through your rose colored glasses and saying everything's awesome. It takes years to rebuild a team thanks for stating the obvious, but we've been rebuilding since 2014....other teams have started rebuilds after us and have already surpassed us. All you've done is stated different opinions and haven't proved anything....learn the difference. The fact that you brought up COVID as a problem for Jim immediately discredits anything you said, that's a ridiculous - lazy argument. And your saying the Toffoli trade was worthwhile and letting him walk was a good call? You think we had good reason to trade future pieces (in the middle of a rebuild - as you stated this is a rebuild) for a player we had to let walk because we didn't have the cap? There is no good argument for that - this team wasn't in a position competitively or financially to trade for rental players....THAT'S NOT HOW YOU REBUILD A TEAM. Pull our heads out guys, it's ok to admit the team and GM has flaws, no room for hurt feelings here. It's also OK to admit some of Jim's moves are hurting this team and holding it back from being further ahead. That's just the truth. -

8 million isn't a lot of cap space this day in age for a team with this many needs, that's just a fact. Yes if they buy out all the above that opens up room but they haven't yet so I won't speculate on that. A lot of people seem to be upset with my view of Benning (I'm not in the minority by the way): Highmore - way too early to tell - only a handful of games played as a bottom six. - Schaller, Madden and a 2nd round pick for Toffoli - who we let walk after 1 partial season. We gave up a good prospect and a 2nd for a rental player we didn't need and likely knew we couldn't afford beyond one year. Explain why that makes sense. We were in the playoffs, but me being a lifelong Canucks fan knew we weren't in the position to be giving up our future for rental players. Were we going to make a cup run? No - we were just happy to be in the thing and we did well. - McCann, a 2nd rounder and a 4th rounder for Erik Gudbranson - think about that..McCann (a good current player) and a 2nd rounder for Gudbranson who did little to contribute and any way besides a few fights. - Sven Baertschi for a 2nd (again Benning throwing away picks - the only thing he seems to hit on) - Linden Vey for a 2nd round pick (again, throwing future away) - Sam Gagner 3-year 9.45 million contract I could go on with a few more here but you get the point. A lot of you are forgetting why we are in this position to begin with.....terrible free agency signing's Roussel, Beagle, Sutter, and Eriksson's contracts have absolutely handcuffed this team. I guess I should have said Benning is inept in free agency, because he is - this is the reason why we can't afford any depth and are slightly worried about getting two of our young superstars signed. We've drafted well, however there are many scouts and evaluators involved in that and in Benning's ear so I'm not going to give 100% credit to him on that. Our drafting has saved us and is the ONLY reason we are somewhat competitive. It certainly hasn't been because of our free agency prowess or trades. The JT Miller trade I liked and still like, JT is a great player and a big part of this team. He's been the G.M since 2014....how long of a rope does he get? How many years of cap-strapped mediocrity are we ok with? I'm not saying he's done all thing's badly, but he most certainly not a great one - the stats show that. Our future is looking brighter thanks to some good drafts - but that doesn't make up for it. We have some GREAT young players now, Demko, Huggie, Petey, Rathbone, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Boeser, Horvat etc because of drafting...my point was Benning doesn't do well in free agency and trades, which is why the majority of our main contributors are from drafting and developing. -

lol took you that long to think of that hey? What did I say to hurt your feelings? Sorry, I have no control over how you feel about the words I type. Don't forget, your the one who started running his mouth to me, not the other way around - lol I'm not the bad guy here.
