  1. Makes sense, safe to say he vastly over performed this year - at least beyond some's expectations, Still has some left in the tank if they manage his ice time similarly.
  2. For sure, he looked great in World Juniors as well, I knows he's definitely offensively talented and creates plays - I hope it translates to the NHL level which I think it will.
  3. From what I've seen, Podkolzin looks like more of an energy guy and creates plays more than an elite goal scorer. Works unbelievably hard and is relentless on the puck. We need more of guys like this, hard nosed and aggressive. If he scores some goals then obviously that's a bonus, but for his first year or two providing some energy and bite would be a great scenario - with that work ethic the points and good line mates will come - look forward to watching him more.
  4. Agreed, seeing that Jones is only 26 makes that even more digestible. We obviously aren't in a win now mode but Jones is still young enough he'd be with the team for years to come barring Benning letting him walk at his next contract which let's be honest could possibly happen.
  5. Even if, Benning doesn't have the competency or pieces to trade for him. Benning says he's going to be aggressive this off-season which is laughable as we have no cap space and need to re-sign Hughes and Pettersson.
  6. 2 pts in 24 games and a -5, yes he's played a full season this year but that doesn't necessarily mean much - and those numbers definitely don't mean he's likely to play in the lineup.
  7. I'm glad to see Benning is finally taking a run at the cup, the Calder that is...kidding but not really. Uitca get's every better year, which isn't a bad thing...I guess?
  8. Fair enough, core maybe the wrong word but doesn't mean I like the trade haha.
  9. Must be circumstances we don't know, trading Gauds doesn't make much sense to me - especially for a guy nobody has really heard of. Why trade a piece of our young core, It's not like we invested a super high pick on him either. I understand Gauds hasn't necessarily lived up to his college play and billing....but still.
  10. Benning would be insane to include Gaudette in a deal right now, too much upside and still too young.
  11. Agreed, very strong drafts as of late but the free agent additions have been questionable . I cant blame Jim fully for the Eriksson signing as he was coming off a 30 goal, 63 point year with Boston, but three million each for role players like Roussel and Beagle was a bit of a reach. No GM has a perfect record though.
  12. No- you said Doughty is a trainwreck in his own zone- I then listed multiple reasons why that's most likely untrue and is an exaggeration to somehow prove your point.
  13. Yet hes a Norris trophy winner, multiple Norris trophy nominee and multiple Stanley Cup champion whos won at every level and regarded as one of the top tier defensemen in the league. See how the things your saying are easily discredited by facts?
  14. Drew Doughty was a -34 last year, and is -18 this season, the statistics are saying Barrie isnt necessarily as bad in his own zone as other top NHL calibre players. My point is your argument is grossly exaggerated and seems to come from personal emotions rather than actual statistics. I can name many other offensive dmen with similar numbers who are considered effective players in their role.
  15. There are former Norris trophy winners and candidates with a worse plus minus than Barrie, Erik Karlsson was a -15 on the season but you can make a strong argument he wasnt necessarily hurting the team, and that the team is undoubtedly better with him in the lineup. Im of course not saying Barrie is a better defensive player but the game will always have a place for "offensive defenseman" with multiple 50 plus point seasons. The power play is a big role.
  16. Virtanen has taken a step forward this year and is carving out a nice role for himself, I don't see them moving him although his stock is the highest it's been since he was drafted.
  17. He wouldn't be in the NHL if it were that cut and dry. I dont disagree he's not great in his own zone.
  18. Really? Even when he was a 50 plus point Dman with a +5 rating , or 38 point and a +17? He had some solid years in Colorado, but to say you wanted no part of a 50 point blueliner is a bit silly. His defensive game has taken a step back though and that's concerning.
  19. It would simply be an upgrade at that position, better depth. I dont see any reason to compare him to Hughes although I dont disagree Hughes is better.
  20. No, they just aren't assuming he will, or that the team planned to do so - as not all forwards can or do. Key word in your sentence is can.
  21. I agree, you have a valid point - this is not complete enough of a team to start doing that. If he is somehow able to re-sign Toffoli with a reasonable cap hit then great he looks like a wizard. If not, then I'm not sure why this trade was made at all other than short term upgrade of our top 6. I will argue a top 6 player isn't really a support player, they are a major contributor, assuming that's where he'll play. He's capable of scoring 20-30 goals and has done so before.
