[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Philadelphia Flyers | Oct. 15, 2021

Well - they (the Canucks) got scored on immediately after to blow their win. That was the original point if I recall. Maybe you didn't watch the game. Go to bed, it's getting late. Can't believe I'm arguing with a six year old at bedtime. -

I didn't have to 'win', and wasn't trying to. You just make no sense. Not even a little. Carry on though, keep fighting the good fight! -

well - if you're the guy losing the fight - or the current momentum - you sure as hell welcome the chance to reset and quell the momentum before continuing to get beat on. Can't believe you're actually making arguments out of this. There's lots of real things to talk about it, and most of them aren't important either. But this takes the cake! -

Yeah agree, he's annoying. Always talks about 'the goalie angle' and himself or his past experiences. Don't care. Timing was off as you mentioned above. -

true. his 'weakness' that he's had this past year or so seems to be inside the offensive blue line on his left wing - just seems to fumble it, lose focus, or make bad passes a lot. Not sure why, but that seems to be where he has been struggling to my eye. Including tonight a few times. But he sharpened up and does make up for it. I think he, and a lot of the players, really hated not playing for actual fans this past year. Don't think you can underestimate that. Not a lot of fun, and not a lot of point to it really. -

I can't believe you're still having this conversation with him. I think you won this before you even had to reply. I didn't even bother it's so silly. -

Yup, agreed, we've been speculating on this scenario for months now. It's looking verrrry good and fun to watch. Jack looks awesome from what I've seen of him. Will be a shame to keep him as a 5/6 minute guy as he gains experience. If they do this right, which it looks like they are with the balance they've provided, this will be a very unique back end they'll be playing. Don't recall ever seeing any time with that kind of unusual setup - for a full 60 minutes of the game no less. -

Yes, and his passes are great too, in all zones, fast reads of the play and great passes to keep possession and positive movement. Just really smart everywhere. Like I say - smart reads, excellent execution. Huge upgrade on... what's his name again?.... oh yeah, Edler. From what I've seen so far, small sample size, but very noticeable. -

OEL is really easy to watch - I find he always does what I want him to do, smartly, quickly and calmly. If he were a player in a video game it'd be easy. Doesn't make me get stressed at all. That's a high compliment. Seems to be a very smart player. Didn't really follow him much before, pleasantly surprised. Yeah, good points on all the others. Saved me typing it. -

Agree on all those points. Miller can sure be sloppy with passes inside the offensive blue line. Saw that a lot last year and again tonight. Gets bungled up there quite a bit. Not sure if I noticed it before last season. But yes, Dickinson anchoring the 3rd isn't really a great idea, unless you want it to sink (wa wa wa). I like those lines. Lots of good options to play with, that's a fun new lineup to play with fo' sho'. -
[Report] Flyers claim Zack MacEwen off waivers

Holy shmokes!!! He's a little goon! He's only 5'4" or so but he makes all the other tuff guys expendable!! -
Good to hear EP improved a bit last, hadn't really looked into that. Yes he'll get better if he has to do it more, and I'm sure he will. Not too worried either way, good points.
-
Miller at C is great, love the idea of it it too..... BUT the biggest reason he stayed with Pete is that he's way better at taking the faceoffs. The question will be if Pete can get better at taking the draws with no Miller to bail him out! THAT is the question.

Are JP Barry's tactics affecting your opinion of Petey and Quinn?
Barefoot replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
Yes - those two players forming their own little 'bloc' for negotiating leverage was a dick move. They're not the Sedins - as actual brothers with parallel careers - they 'created' their own little union as it were to put undue pressure on the team by having them BOTH be withholding their services and damaging the team. On their own each, as they should be, they would not have had such an impact. There is no natural affinity between these two to justify forming this 'bloc' for leveraging against the team's success. Dick move. -
[Signing] Kings sign Alexander Edler
Barefoot replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
There's no way the nucks would have offered him anything close to that. He's fine getting that on the open market - no problem - but the nucks did not have the need for him positionally, nor the cap space for it. All good. -
why? they're overstacked on the left D. Both sides have said a week or two ago that they're moving on. He don't fit no mo' no mo' no mo'.... He'll definitely get a better contract elsewhere as well.
-
Yeah that's kind of my thinking - the issues in their own end seems to be bigger than any particular players. I'm not into bitching and complaining at coaches or players, cuz it's a fast game and $&!# happens. That's truly true. And I know nothing of their inside operations. But that ability to get around an aggressive forecheck is their achilles heel. If they just flipped the puck quick out to centre all game tmrw night I bet we'd see a big improvement! We'll see - watch for it - report back what you see.
-
Nucks seem to be baffled by Montreal's forecheck. It's killed them every game so far. It's like they're not expecting them to forecheck. That, to me, has been the difference in all these games, and has sunk them over and over again. Get ahead, or around, their forecheck. Move feet, Move puck. Also - think fast(er)!
-
Well said - context does matter and your analysis is right on each of those points. Also - the only reason Toffoli is killing it so well this year is because he's, ironically, feasted on the Canucks in those first 10-15 games when their team defence was atrocious - those were free goals from endless broken plays. He'll settle down and normalize. He's not Mike Bossy. Also, Stecher unfortunately wasn't a good fit going forward with small Hughes, and Rathbone in their plans too, too many small.
