  1. To start with the max term if he isn't resigned by the Leafs is 7 years, right, not 8? If anyone offers him more than 4-5 years, well, good luck. I've wanted Hyman on our team for a long time, think he's a perfect fit for the top 9 on a reasonable contract. A reasonable contract for us would be something like 4-5 mil for max 4 years or maybe a bit more money for shorter term. If that's what they're discussing I would be fine with it although the later part of the contract could be risky, if it's more than that I hope and believe we're not really in it. Not sure anyone wants to spend more than that on a middle six winger in this climate though no matter how good his overall contribution are.
  2. I'm guessing that's the way most see it incl. management, so the answer is no. Does have some talent so not a bad decision to take a flyer on him when we needed warm bodies during previous season, but not surprised it didn't work out. Boyd showed a bit more but still not enough to be kept IMO.
  3. Something about these buyouts that just don't feel right. Makes we wonder if there's more behind the scenes to motivate this. I would stay far away from both these players, but they'll likely end up with short term deals on contenders anyway.
  4. Been trying to get my head around this trade but it makes no sense. Holland actually believes Keith will make the Oilers better and is worth that cap hit for 2 more years? Ok... Then of course Minny bought out Parise and Suter which makes even less sense, so now I'm confused about that instead ;-)
  5. If oilers are all in it does make kind of sense no? Otherwise it makes no sense at all and glad GMJB was never in on it as far as we know.
  6. He he, corrected, damn u autocorrect...
  7. IMO there's nothing indicating JB is not aware of the implications of OEL's six remaining years. He's signed questionable FA:s but so far nothing that interfers with our contending window. I don't agree OEL is a cap dump, on the right team he's a top pairing D for at least 2-3 years and then second pairing. So for 5-6 mil and without no major assets given up I think it's a good deal. For us that is, not sure Arizona does it, and that's probably why our front office denies the rumour as it's not really doable unless they lower their asking price.
  8. Regarding the player, yeah we want him. If rumours are true that his considering resigning with the oilers, well maybe that's whats best for everybody... Also, the term he might want on the open market might not be a fit (our timeline might not be a fit for a player in his prime either).
  9. He's FA and by default gets the attention. He's not a #1D by any means but as a RHD that projects at 5 mil or less he's exactly what we need if the term is acceptable. As for the comparisons, Larsson is an elite shutdown D, tough as nails and with a mean streak. He's not dynamic offensively but has good enough hockey IQ to play along with skilled players. Schmidt is way better with the puck but not as good defensively although you could argue he was at the same level during his time in Vegas. Hamonic league wise at this point is a good 3rd pairing D but not in the same tier as Larsson (but in another tier regarding salary also of course).
  10. I personally believe that there's a solid chance we trade for a D before ED to take advantage of other teams protection problems. Myers' contract was always designed so he could be exposed, and I think the organization views that contract as neutral, meaning if Seattle takes him he can be replaced via trade or FA but if they don't there's no harm in keeping him. I don't think OJ will be exposed (too much time invested and still lots of potential and will sign a reasonable contract), but trading for a quality D and exposing Myers seems like an easy way for a much needed upgrade IMO.
  11. I think it's interesting and a bit disheartening that even after adding Reinhart to that lineup we're still one scoring forward away from being able to ice a decent offensive 3rd line, even though Bo would probably be the best 3C in the league. And that's when everybody is healthy... If Gadj or Lind would be able to provide physicality and some scoring in the top 9 that would make a huge difference going forward.
  12. Ha ha fair enough - I stand corrected. He did of course get 2 games in 2019 as well though... ;-) But I can understand that it looks strange that he didn't get one or two more games down the stretch when we were out of it, just not buying the narrative that a franchise is obliged to give a player opportunities, you have to make every second you get in pro sports count and that's up to the player.
  13. I don't see it like that, and I have no problem with PP1 getting say 1.10-1.20 of most power plays unless they're not rolling, in which case you play PP2 half the time or more. That's assuming you have a decent PP2 of course, which this past season we clearly did not.
  14. I agree. I don't think it's unfair to point out that QH had a very bad year defensively, but there's also no reason not to expect him to improve. And since this is a thread about the new contracts for QH/EP, maybe we should remind ourselves that both having troubled season could be a blessing in disguise as their contracts with more linear progress and without the flat cap would have been a lot richer.
  15. Don't understand all this nonsense about not being given opportunities. He had 1 opportunity (1 game) and he didn't take it, I don't think there's more to it than that. Chatfield had a few shaky shifts in his first game, but overall played ok for a #6-7D (arguably not a very good one but he does bring some elements although his positioning is somewhat suspect). Rafferty's game was a disaster. I also think he could've gotten one or two more games to get a clearer view of what we had in him, but obviously that's not how the coach saw it.
  16. Not understanding why B would trade DeBrusk for Holtby straight up, Holtby with his cap hit must be negative value even if for some reason they see him as a fit. So I'm thinking we would have to add and we don't have the depth to do that.
  17. Of the trade rumours in play i don't really see a fit for our pick. Keeping it and having another talented player on ELC is more important than adding e.g. Reinhart short term. Many trades occur without rumours, e.g. Miller, of course, so you never know. My bet is we keep the pick though.
  18. I don't think Edler would have an issue with signing one year for 2-3 mil and my guess is that's what will happen after ED.
  19. Yes having the farm in Abby really makes a difference. I could see Rathbone in Abby for about 20 games and maybe 40 with the big team. OJ and Edler doing 60 games each sounds great to me.
  20. Just doesn't make sense imo. No problem with expanded rosters for the playoffs, and the players can still get paid, but the team you put on the ice should always be cap compliant, otherwise it invites circumvention as mentioned.
  21. Hope you noticed the comments about winning your matchup vs getting points + the young players have to take a step each year... That's how you win . Wish I wouldn't have to go there but peple are seriously still thinking the twins are the sole reason Boston turned that series around? The rest of the team did their part in the last 3 games right?
  22. Interesting. I think Laine will always be the superior sniper. The other players have the potential to be valuable in lots of other areas though, especially come playoff time. Wahlstrom imo is the wild card in that he's a sniper that could be as good or better than Laine but also in that i don't think his all around game is on par with the others. Laine is actually a buy low right now. I know he has issues but would look good with EP and nobody complained about Brett Hull when he scored 70+...
  23. Agree. What I tried to highlight in my post is that the twins - while being fair and humble - are a lot tougher in their attitude than many realize, I would guess a lot tougher than Green for instance. But you're definitely right doing it on the ice and in the locker room are different things vs getting it done in management or coaching. Let's see how it plays out, I think this setup with the advisor roles is the sweet spot between big upside and low risk. That said - I would be very surprised if the twins don't excel...
  24. I know many have an impression of the twins being somewhat mild mannered although their hyper competitive nature has been well documented. To those believing they're not up for harsh business decisions in the future, here's a couple of anecdotes. 1) In the WC semis 2013 Sweden faced Canada. The day before the game the Sedins stared down Canada's goalie Mike Smith at the end of Canada's practice. When asked about it in the press Henrik said "you like to remind yourself of his tendencies" and added that Smith was a "big goalie who dives a lot" and that "I’m going to tell the ref to keep an eye on him". When the game started one of the twins immediately ran Smith in untypical fashion. Referee didn't call it, big surprise. And yes, Smith was involved in multiple more infractions but got no calls on either and Sweden won. https://canucksarmy.com/2013/05/15/henrik-sedin-on-mike-smith-hes-extremely-big-and-good-at-playing-the-puck-he-also-dives-a-lot/ 2) The only time I can recall when the twins called out teammates was when McCann and Virtanen was on the team. It always intrigued me that Henrik didn't defend Virtanen on his first suspension but maybe Danny's comments a while later explains why. "The only thing I worry about is effort,” he said. “And I think from some guys right now, the effort is not there. It’s not good enough. I think those guys know who they are. I think it’s embarrassing." https://nationalpost.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks-daniel-sedin-unhappy-with-teams-effort-level-its-embarrassing
