He got Iginla off his game with borderline hits and answered the bell by fighting him, so while not a fighter he didn’t shy away.
-
For sure he didn’t have that muscle last season
-
Baer is the perfect 3rd liner along with 2 more physical guys, so if we can play him there and don’t need him in the top 6 we’re in good shape.
-
Would take a gamble on Tanev (no retention) for Poolparty straight up since it’s tanev’s last year. Would love to include LE in such a deal, but I don’t see how it would work since we can’t retain much more cap. Maybe the solution for a probably very motivated LE is just to play 3rd line with e.g. Sutter and Baer?

Har man spelat i Kanada så länge som han vet man att minsta lilla sak blir en mediastorm. Tror han gjorde det med avsikt som sagt, även om jag inte förstår varför.
-
Maybe, but I'm not so sure. I love the Ferland signing, but it also makes it even more obvious that the team lack skill. Goldy and Baer are very valuable in that sense, and their weaknesses may matter less now with a more balanced, heavier and tougher team.

I did, and I speak swedish,.. So nice try, but no. I know what he said.
-
LE did say that he and green hadn’t agreed to a 100% on things and that it was tough playing when he didn’t have the trust he’s had from previous coaches. IMO he knew full well what he was doing when he said that, although it seems a bit out of character for him. If he didn’t, well, then he’s not a very insightful pro...

Brock me!

Love this and it actually looks like a playoff lineup. Baer would bring much needed playmaking to that 3rd line, and I think LE should get 20-30 games on that 2nd line. If he doesn't grab that chance, not much more to do... Benn-Stecher should be the 3rd pairing though ;-)

[Trade] Nylander (Buf) traded to Chi for Jokiharju
J-P replied to 18W-40C-6W's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Granted - it’s a subjective conclusion. And guesswork anyway since we don’t know how these kids will pan out. Alex developed early and has an early birthday. He had a good season in Superelit J20 at a young age. I don’t put too much value in stats from OHL and WJC, but he had good stats in both. He’s spent 3 seasons in the AHL with mediocre stats for a projected top 6 player and most of all, he’s trending in the wrong direction (or at least stagnating). Linus has a very late birthday, developed later and had a better Superelit J20 season than Alex (a year older). At 18 and 19 he played a regular shift in SHL and Allsvenkan and started getting invitations to the national junior teams. Linus is still improving his stats for every year and although .35 ppg in allsvenskan is not dominating it’s not bad for an 18 year old either. Maybe Alex sets the world on fire in Chicago, they seem to believe in him since they’re trading for him, and alongside Kane or Toews, who knows... My guess though is that Linus will end up a very solid 2 way bottom six player with a long career, and Alex will not play very much in the NHL at all. -
[Trade] Nylander (Buf) traded to Chi for Jokiharju

I'm not a scout or anything and I've only really seen Alex play during the WJC with EP, but I don't really see why people have such high hopes for him. Maybe the thinking is he'll be like William Nylander one day? IMO - nothing indicates it. He doesn't have the speed, hockey IQ or playmaking skill (he does seem to be a decent finisher though). Also - if you look at his stats, they're not really that impressive either. Linus Karlsson for instance - projected as a third liner at best by many - looks like a much better prospect if you just go by the stats. So I'd say we have at least 5 prospects with better potential, probably more than 5 ;-) -
There is a quote from LE:s agent in the article, the rest is the reporter more or less stating what we already know (makes no sense to buy him out etc.). The actual quote is (translated from Swedish, haven't read the original english quote): "– Loui won't break his contract, he's a Vancouver player and has no intention of retiring, says Erikssons agent, Peter Werner at CAA Sports in Stockholm. "
-
Yeah why would he draft Podz or Hoglander instead of looking for immediate help if he was that short-sighted?
-
Looking forward to EP making Mathieson look silly again and JT telling him to go cry about it on the bench instead of getting any ideas ;-)
-
I think JB’s dilemma is that you’re really paying for potential with Boeser. His track record itself is not worth more than $5 mil or around there. A bridge deal for $6-7 mil 2-3 years would make sense, I would be ok with 7. A longer contract than that may turn out to be a bargain but could also really come back to haunt us
-
That’s true to some degree, but he’s also had issues like a neck injury when going to the net and getting hit, so unfortunately I think it’s a little bit of both bad luck and lack of durability. Makes me uncomfortable to think about him taking more heavy hits, have a feeling he should put his health first and quit. Granted, I’m not a doctor :-) injuries aside, he’s a very good second liner, super skilled and the perfect match for Bo and Pearson, so agree on that.

[Rumor] Nashville interested in Gaudette at the draft
J-P replied to Ossi Vaananen's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is such a weak rumour/thread, but ok, anything goes in the long summer days I suppose... ;-) -
[Speculation] Tanev possibly being shopped
J-P replied to dontaylorforprez's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not sure why we would sell low on Tanev. If he has a good season and stays healthy we could move him at TDL, but as of now he's more valuable as a player. Same with Sutter, really, and I don't think Gaudette is ready to be a 3rd line center either. Would be nice to get the $6 mil for LE off the books of course. Still think it's a decent chance he retires if no trade partner is found. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tyler Motte
J-P replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don’t know, that in itself is kinda funny I think... Ah, long summer like you said ;-) -
I was thinking we protect him, and if we opt not to he probably isn’t worth protecting. Nice to have the flexibility on his contract either way.
-
If Woo - who won’t need protection? - pans out and NT returns I wouldn’t worry about losing Stecher.

[Signing] Canucks sign Oscar Fantenberg
J-P replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I believe this signing is a little underrated. Sure Benn is likely better, but I don’t think Fantenberg is in his prime yet and he really is an ideal #5-7D. Miles better than DP or Biega. The 3 D signings will make a huge difference, especially if QH can provide offense from the get go. -
[Rumour] Perry to sign with Stars
J-P replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
That’s a relief. He will fit nicely in their press box. -
Smith is old and declining, so good luck with that one (or not). I remember at the WHC in 2013 when Sweden won gold led by the Sedins. They met Canada in the semis and before the game Henrik told reporters that they had played against Smith a number of times and that he was a big goalie who had a habit of diving a lot. A bit out of character for a Sedin maybe but pure gamesmanship. And... When the game started one of the Sedins immediately ran Smith behind the net. He fell and well... No call of course! Too funny.
