Good decison. Hutton is a nice #3 LD at 2.5 mil or so. If someone gives him more than that, so be it.
-
The top 7 on that list is a real nice prospect pool with good depth. We'll se what becomes of Lockwood. Gadjo and especially MacEwen are exciting prospects as big and tough 4th liners.

Miller is tough enough (and skilled enough) to make a big difference in our top 6. Also - our core is still very young and it's a good thing to have an experienced 200 ft player like Miller helping on the D side of things as well. Losing the 1st hurts, but maybe this is one of deals that just has to happen to upgrade the team. I also think drafting Pod makes it hurt a little less since his timeline and floor makes it likely he'll add some real depth to our top 9 in two years.

So maybe you saw that JB was asked why they didn't select any defencemen and answered that they got Hoglander at 40 which he personally thought was a total steal. I think the odds of Hoglander making it are quite a bit better than the average undersized secound-round F.

I'm guessing that VAN was one of the four teams involved in the Subban talks. The word is that NJD was the only team willing to take on the entire cap hit of Subban's contract. If I'm right - this means JB has a clear plan and it doesn't involve wasting millions by overpaying. It of course also would mean that he's planning to use the the money elsewhere...

Just me thinking that GMJB & co has played their cards close to heart in previous drafts? So I don’t place much weight on rumors although you do get the impression that they have a very clear picture/ranking...

[Rumour] Jesse Puljujarvi requests trade

If we could get Poolparty for Sutter at 50/% retained I would be happy. It would actually make sense for both teams except the division thing. -
Tell me im wrong. Edler is Worth 5 years @ 7.5 - 8 million per

Ok, let's see what Gardiner or Myers (although he might do the home discount and not go FA?) gets and then we can evaluate this...My guess is that Gardiner gets at least 35 mil for his contract, and I'd much rather have Eddy on that. -
[Rumour] Canucks inquired about Sabres defenceman
J-P replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My 5 cents is that Eddy did just fine whoever he was paired with this season, holding the fort against McDavid or who else might've been the number one threat on any given night. "Whoever" was generally a 3rd pairing D like Stecher or Guddy. So yeah - maybe Eddy isn't the best babysitter in the league and maybe he isn't a true #1D. Doesn't matter with his salary and his history with the franchise. I'd say he's one of the best contracts in the league. -
[Article] The Misunderstood Matter of Olli Joulevi

That's true and IMO if OJ can stay healthy second paring D is his floor IMO. -

Except that 3rd pairing FA:s get like 4-5 mil these days, So, no, 7 mil is nowhere near over payment. If you want Myers or Gardiner at that amount (and for 6-7 years cap hit...) as your #1D on both offense and defense next season, sure, me I'd say Eddy is by far the better player. -

Sergachev's definitely a good player and it remains to be seen if he or OJ will have the better career. Maybe I'm a homer but I still belive in OJ and wouldn't trade Sergachev for him 1:1. As for Tkachuk? No denying his mark on the NHL so far, but Canucks need a player like OJ to reach his ceiling more than we need a 1st line winger so I see the reasoning behind the pick all things even. Time will tell, maybe I'm a homer again, but I'm not convinced MT will be held in quite as high a regard in a few years... -
If Eddy signs for 5.5 that's at least 2 mil below market value. Doesn't matter if it's 3 or 4 years, it's still a bargain. To give up that money and the NMC for the expansion draft (although I think they have a plan for how Eddy won't be selected) is just a sign of unbelievable character. Thanks GMJB, but most of all thanks Eddy.

[Report] Canucks looking at adding Hoffman
J-P replied to Generational.EP40's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Baertschi or Goldy or Sutter at 50% retained, sure, otherwise neither the contract nor his history (fair or not) in Ottawa makes sense for us. -
Hm, I guess GMJB just doesn't get how toughness works in the league since he never played... Oh, wait a minute, he did? ;-)
-
Important to realize that if Edler is not signed this week the price goes up for about 2 weeks, and I wouldn't be surprised to see an offer like 5 years at $8m incl. a NMC from Philly or Tampa. I still don't think that's what Edler wants, so just get it done this week - 3 years and no NMC is a win for all. Gardiner or Myers IMO they just aren't on the same level as Eddy defensively.
-
As expected then, but still really good news if it happens ;-)

In the real world outside CDC Edler is a #2-3D commanding $7-9 mil/year for a 5-7 year contract. He might even be relatively healthy on a contract like that, not being overused as a #1D as he’s been here for years. I still think he signs here, but the notion that he should sign for 2 x $5 mil is just insulting. -
[Buyout] Ducks buy out Corey Perry
J-P replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Perry is the exact kind of player we should stay away from (along with the likes of Spooner, Gagner and Lucic). Just no - not even at league minimum. -
Not sure how P.K. Subban would fit with the team regarding personality, not saying it wouldn't work fine, but apart from that Tanev for Subban straight up actually makes a lot of sense for both teams. VAN: P.K Subban NSH: Tanev (50% retained) Subban isn't really needed in NSH as Josi is way better and their other D:s too good to motivate Subban's salary as basically a second pairing guy. This deal would give NSH plenty of cap room to get even stronger up front instead. Subban's age and contract (3 yrs remaining with a $9 mil cap hit) isn't perfectly aligned with the Canuck's rebuild, but still a piece that's needed asap. Edler - Subban Hughes - FA Hutton/OJ - Stecher That's miles better than this season.

I think you should hold your horses until it’s a done deal. Negotiations directed by agents is one thing, my guess is that they’ll find a compromise that works for everybody in the end. It’s also worth noting that Edler is the only current Canuck D (even if I hope QH gets there soon) who would play top 4 for most teams in the league. So if we lose him and add a free agent that’s not named Karlsson the D will still be one of the bottom five in the entire league IMO.

Not saying Bo is a 3C, just that he could be a 2-3C on a deep contender (think Pittsburgh). It would work like this: 1-3C plays 16-20 mins a night depending on matchups, if offense or defense needed etc. This season Gaudette played 11 mins average (as a “3C”) and Beagle about 15 mins, so imagine the difference... But agree that Bo’s at least a 2C on pretty much every team in the league and that Zegras on the wing would also be an option.
