  1. That’s a very appealing idea. Would mean Bo could be an elite 3C moving up to 1C or 2C occasionally with EP doing some work on the wing from time to time. Would make for a crazy top 9 and create all sorts of matchup problems for opponents.
  2. I agree that the Oilers should be in a win now (or at least soon...) mode. LE:s cap hit is $6 mil/year for 3 more years though, so I'm not sure that's a good fit regardless of the remainder of a deal. Maybe Sutter at 50% and a minor piece like Hutton for Lucic as a base and then their 8OA or Poolparty? Lots of unfair proposals regarding Lucic of course, but that's the way it should be. We don't need him and the Oilers can sort out their own problems. Shoot for the moon and if they Oilers don't like it, well, nice talking to ya Ken ;-)
  3. Oh yeah, that would be sweet. Even if he “only” becomes a bottom pairing D (I believe he could be second pairing) his skill set would make that a bargain come playoff time.
  4. True, but forcing youngsters on to the roster when they’re not ready (McCann, Virtanen) is not a recipe for success IMO. This has improved though, MacEwen, EP, Sautner where all put in a place to succeed and ready. Depends on what you believe the ceiling for AG is I guess. He was ready to grind it out with sheltered deployment in the NHL, but like with Virtanen I believe his offensive game would have benefited from AHL.
  5. My priority is a few years down the line when we’re hopefully contending. Benning’s should’ve been too.
  6. I really don't understand the reasoning behind Gaudette's place in the organization last season. Should have played in Utica for most of the season as an offensive #1 center, maybe 10-20 games with the Canucks in a stint or two, not the other way around.
  7. Seeing lots of comments that indicates some believe Perry still has it. He doesn't. Perry is pretty much useless and has a lot more negative value as an asset than LE. With that contract I'm not even sure I'd do LE for Perry + their #9 pick.
  8. I remember how the expansion draft went for Columbus and Florida last time. Protecting players like Lucic is what gets you in that kind of trouble, and especially with young players it’s not easy to predict their development and asset value. LE has no NMC for the expansion draft so adding Lucic that has (as I understand it) should be a non-starter. Benning did well last time with Vegas - obviously managing a pretty weak roster without many assets - so let’s hope he has an eye on the ED and not just this upcoming season.
  9. I get it that we don’t want to protect him in the expansion draft and that’s a totally valid perspective from a franchise standpoint. As fans though, I think we should respect and be happy that he wants to finish his career here instead of complaining that he wants an NMC or wouldn’t waive. Personally - I think they should just do 2 years at $8 mil and everybody wins.
  10. Ha ha you mean unlike the other 11 months of the year ;-)
  11. Bortom line is it’s up to the player to make it and that you have to question JD:s mental toughness. NHL history is also full of players that never made it due to mentality, physical attributes, bad luck or a combination. That said, while GMJB while be remembered as a draft genius with one or two more good drafts, the pro scouting and prospect development under his watch have been bad. Regarding prospects, McCann and Virtanen where rushed (Gaudette as well in my eyes), Dahlen and Palmu should have played at least one more year in Europe. And I’m sorry, but if McEwen and Sautner are the only positive developments from Utica for an entire season that’s just not gotta cut it. Also - playing a player like Dahlen in the bottom 6 in the AHL makes no sense at all. If he’s not ready for top 6, he should not be on the roster (same as for Goldy, Boucher etc.). Like with Dahlen, you can always find excuses but the results are what matters. I don’t know enough about Cull and Johnson to have an informed opinion, but I’m really hoping for a better season in Utica this year and if not that’s a major concern. I do think the rookie players coming in to the NHL last season have been put in positions to succeed though and have been more or less ready, so that’s a positive.
  12. Starting to warm up to the thought of Broberg after watching highlights from his tournaments. Still question offensive IQ, but his skating and D plays combined with a heavy body gives me Ohlund vibes. If we could draft a #1-2D with a 10th pick that would mean a lot. Soderstrom i see more as a safe pick projecting to a #3-5D. I’d prefer Bjornfot with our second pick if he’s there. Also wondering if the lack of buzz around Broberg and Canucks is a bit of a smokescreen. Go for the ceiling GMJB!
  13. Also you won’t win many games scoring one goal, no matter how you look at it.
  14. That could happen in a few years but we saw pretty clearly this season how the team fared without Edler and when relying too much on Hutton.
  15. I don't believe the rumours about a unite with Henrik Lundqvist in NYR, King Henrik is pretty much done and also the Rangers are a few years away from contending anyway. Tampa makes sense and is a fit but maybe not cap wise. Columbus would be a great fit but I think EK is a bit too flashy to like neither the city nor their style of play. The injury concerns are valid of course, but I still feel that without any indications of injury that can be traced to the ankle and seeing what he did in the playoffs when he could hardly skate at all it's hard not to be intrigued...
  16. I agree with all of this except the take on Edler. I think he will sign for either 2 years at $7-8m or for 4-5 years at around $4m, in both cases with a NMC. He'll have to compromise on either term or money. The term at $4m is worth it IMO, so both deals are good for the Canucks even though it's obviously not ideal with the NMC for the expansion draft (although right now OJ is the only D that really needs protection so still room for 1 FA).
  17. The playoffs is a different game in The Worlds pretty much the same way as it is in the nhl. So while Russia was impressive today it remains to be seen if that means anything going forward. My guess would be that Canada lacks speed and won’t go all the way, but Kane seems kinda lackluster as a leader on the US team on the other hand. I think Sweden or Russia will win it in the end. SWE - FIN will be a monster game Thursday in the quarterfinals.
  18. Don’t usually follow the worlds but do this year with all the nucks in action. Gotta say it’s a really good tournament, SWE - RUSSIA reallly entertaining. EP getting better and better, and what can you say, Nylander is really good, no denying it, he even backchecka hard... How’s QH and US-CAN looking?
  19. So unfair to rob us of the opportunity to see a future D pairing of KG and Tryamkin ;-)
  20. The tourney really starts in the quarterfinals. I'm not sure we'll have the same view on Nylander vs EP when the opposition gets tougher, but we'll see...
  21. Good move by the Sabres, but I remember reading that Krueger didn't want to coach but have a front-office postiion going forward so I'm a little surprised.
  22. I have faith in GMJB to not draft him if he actually is Shinkaruk part 2.
