  1. The Nylander comparison doesn't really apply to EP, but it's interesting to note that Nylander never really got going this season after missing training camp and 2 months. On the other hand - if Dubas hadn't signed him it would have sent a very mixed message about the upcoming signings. Holdouts are a very bad thing in general for both club and player. The article itself is just click bait without substance and I think it will be quite obvious in 2021 what EP's value is and that he will be paid accordingly without much fuss.
  2. Stoked that the next game will be an afternoon game = starts 9pm over here in Europe!
  3. True, but the Swedes will be a much better team than the Canucks so guess they have him in high regard. Also - guy has a big family, is 33 and is delaying his vacation almost 2 months to play at the worlds. He does have a lot of history with the national team, though.
  4. Seems strange to me that LE is going to the worlds. Both that he wants to go and that he was invited. Maybe last games before retirement? Or maybe he’s just still a good and highly motivated player? ;-)
  5. I also think Krueger and Benning would complement each other well. Was also very impressed by Krueger’s coaching last World Cup for the euro team. When you get all players to buy in on team philosophy and play hard every shift in such a short tournament it tells me you understand both the game and how players work and think.
  6. This is true, and also the East is so good that Columbus, islanders and Washington could all go all the way.
  7. Took the stats from memory, I stand corrected ;-) But let’s just agree it’s a good trade for all parties so far, time will tell the rest.
  8. I can admit to being a bit biased when it comes to Guddy, his time with the Canucks was frustrating. Seems like a nice guy though, so if he can find success in a sheltered role all the better. I know throwing the puck to the opposition in the neutral zone isn’t technically a giveaway but it still hurts the team... Going by the stats Guddy is the pens best defender this playoffs - although with the highest ozone start % - that doesn’t make it so. He failed my eye test big time, but by all means, if his stats look like this for an extended period of time I will admit being wrong (but I’ll still be glad he moved on!).
  9. Pens really are gonna lose the series and Crosby has zero points in almost 3 games, who would’ve thought...
  10. Not impressed by Guddys game today. Clearly #6 on D and would get much less time if they didn’t coach the pairings quite evenly. No hits, no clean zone exits, gives the puck away constantly, hardly keeping up - glad we moved on.
  11. Not so sure Guddy is really playing that well. Being a plus player on a good team doesn’t say much. He scored a nice goal last game but also got turned inside out by Lee and was on for a goal against on the counter attack. Only watched the highlights though, will watch the game tomorrow.
  12. I think size is still needed but agree skill is the most important hole in the lineup. That’s why the fates of Goldy and Baer is important. Pearson and Leivo are nice 3rd liners with upside but we need more skill than EP, QH l, Bo and Boeser.
  13. Marky needs to continue improving and be consistent to be considered elite, but he allowed a lot fewer cheap goals this season, no early softies like last year and he was really good from December on. Hardly ever beaten on clean shots. Still a few deflections and screened shots that went through him at times that seemed questionable, I wonder if that’s the D not taking care of business or Marky’s positioning or both.

Yeah that’s sound logic, and I agree that if Edler walks he’s an ok interim part solution for a year. Still hope we can sell high on him at the draft!
  15. Draft is a funny thing in hindsight. Jack Hughes has been regarded as a franchise player for years, and while I believe he’ll have a good career his ceiling is pretty much unknown. When we drafted EP he was more or less unknown and lots of people were upset (we missed out on on Cody Glass damn it!). Today - not many people would consider trading EP for this year’s first...
  16. A backup goalie can be important during regular season, but seldom has a big part of a team’s success in the long run IMO. So if we risk losing one at the ED, so be it. It’s much more important doing the right choice when committing to the future starter goalie. Hopefully it’s clearer who that is before ED.
  17. Say what you want about LE but he's made like zero mistakes all season, always battles, is always in the right place and always helps the team any way the coach asks him to without any complaints or second thoughts. Of course he's no longer worth the dollars considering his offensive output, but it's not like he's not a good player as a second or third line winger. I think his cool personality and effortless skating/positioning rubs some fans the wrong way - although a quiet guy I think he's a lot prouder than most people think and that he's frustrated over how things have turned out. Also I find it interesting that Beagle really seems to like playing with him, the non-caring glider lots of fans describe him as wouldn't seem like a player Beagle would praise.
  18. I don't think from this season you can conclude what AG will become. Might be a 4th line energy player in the long run, might be a 3C, we'll have to wait and see... To contribute more on offense he needs to process the game faster, be more creative and work on his skill level. There's a reason he was a 5th rounder - since he had a long way to go - but he's still young and his ceiling is a bit unclear to me. Also - like with EP I think he's a bit fatigued after his first pro season. Even EP has some trouble with puck control etc. at this point of the season due to being a little less explosive in those first steps.
  19. That makes a lot of sense in the modern nhl. Another example is upcoming FA Stralman in Tampa. He’s a top 10 RD in the league IMO when defending a lead late in a playoff game I’d say. That doesn’t mean he’s a top pairing D on the Canucks or even a good fit.
  20. Last few games he’s been getting around 18 mins and that’s 4-6D on the penguins who distribute ice time quite evenly on D after the top pairing. A bit curious to see how Guddy will do in the playoffs.
  21. That’s a valid point, but my thinking is that the coaches want him to have a bit of an adjustment period, not going straight from junior to NHL crunch time. Or maybe they just felt other players deserved the ice time more. Either way it’s fine by me, Quinn’s time will come soon enough.
  22. I find it hard getting upset that he was sheltered in the 3rd in one of Dallas most important games of the season. He’s been fine, but like EP had to, he needs to figure out how to deal with the physical stuff and also how to defend when glued in the D zone. Really happy to to see his passing and skating translate to seamlessly to the pro game anyhow.
  23. I suppose it is and I think that’s part of him slowing down, together with being a bit worn down. He’s still playing well and getting points at 1-2C though, so it’s hard to really complain going back to what could be reasonably be expected for his first season. I’m ok with missing the playoffs if we get a valuable piece at the draft, but next season I think it’s important to start winning to avoid EP, Bo, QH and Boeser being stuck in a losing culture a la Deadmonton.
