  1. Really don't like this trade. I'll admit Dahlen is one of my favourite prospects, so of course I'm biased, but still don't get the rationale behind it. Also - the difference between this trade and say Shinkaruk is that Dahlen is a player the current regime aquired, so any flaws in his game or character falls on them. Time will tell and JB has actually made very few bad trades, but having a hard time with this so far.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

Anton having a nice conversation on the bench with one of his Swiss opponents. https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/a/0E1EM2/vilda-attacken-ska-skara-dig-i-bitar
  3. Gotta agree with that, he'll think twice before doing that again hopefully and he'll remember #26. No penalty either ;-)
  4. Stecher has no business being on the first PP or playing 25-30 mins on a good team. I think he's ceiling is a very good #5-6D on a contender which the Canucks will be in a few years hopefully. Absolutely nothing wrong with this, if that scenario pans out it's a huge win for both player and club.

    Sam Gagner | C/W

I think Toronto should try and trade Gagner to... Oh wait, that won't work ;-)
  6. EP should win it IF healthy and if he doesn’t get fatigued but for RD to do what he’s done at 18 on D is very impressive.
  7. Hopefully Sven is ok. I actually think he’s been playing well since his return and doesn’t look scared out there.
  8. Winning teams need a mix of skill and grit, you don’t win in the playoffs with grit only, never have. I think Goldy can be effective if he develops a bit defensively and psychically. Wouldn’t mind a third line of Goldy - Gaudette - McEwen in a few years...
  9. I think we can all learn something from Lastname’s dedication and personality.
  10. No matter how you look at it, he’s been real gud.
  11. Thought Sutter had a better game against the Avs. No offense and he's starting to look awfully slow (injury effect?), but still a soilid performance with good positioning, smart plays etc. Still think his days here are numbered, though.
  12. I think it's important for players to have interests outside of hockey. Lastname has that.
  13. It's not in the moment, it's a disaster not being able to complete a simple pass every game after coming back from injury and a subpar performance before that last injury, of course it decreases his value. Up to the point where nobody will want to trade for him if he doesn't step it up IMO.
  14. Mostly agree with that, but feel maybe LA could have gotten a little bit more. Maybe a better return could also have convinced LA to take on Sam Gagner from Toronto's farm in the deal! Oh, wait... ;-) Sutter or Tanev for Liljegren and Zach Hyman or Liljegren and their 2nd maybe.
  15. Not saying you’re wrong but I’d take Goldy over McCann as well. Doubt McCann can be more than a 3C, while Goldy with all his defiences still oozes potential. It’s a gamble of course, and the odds are probably 50/50 or worse that Goldy never pans out, but homer or not, that’s the way I see it.
  16. Sutter was shockingly bad against the Canes, couldn't even complete a simple pass. He's never been able to drive any offense apart from shooting off the rush, but he's been very steady and reliable defensively so I really don't know what's happened or if it's just temporary. If he really has that good reputation we keep hearing about, let's trade him asap before it's too late ;-)
  17. Stop going five hole all the time Jake and just roof it!

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

I like that Gaunce is doing really well in the minors. I also like that he isn’t gifted a spot in the majors to “develop”. If he can’t force his way onto what is still one of the weaker rosters in the NHL, then so be it. We’ll see where it goes, but this is exactly the way a competitive organization should work.
  19. Agree that he needs to play. And most 4th liners really need to be able to produce offense in the minors and have a decent skill level, if not the NHL pace and level of skill will just be too much to handle. See the difference in the play of Gaunce, Gaudette, Archibald etc. when comparing their time in the AHL/NHL (Gaudette may be a 2-3C but point is still valid).

    Sam Gagner | C/W

Yeah if you look at Louie you always knew he would bring something to the team, offense or not, worth the cap hit or not. With Gagner, absolutely nobody was surprised when his highly sheltered bounce back season in Columbus turned out to be a one time thing. Strange that JB couldn’t see that risk.
  21. I think besides skating it’s also a confidence thing. Being just that little late to the puck is often a combination of lack of speed and hesitation and/or not finding the shortest path to the puck. Kole’s had a bit of a rough start, but if he can better his skating and his confidence, this phase will be a good learning experience.
  22. EP has still only played 30 games ever on NA ice and has adopted to playing center while doing it. So I wouldn't see it as any less impressing, really. EP right now is not the kind of player that dominates like McD though. And maybe we should lay off the generational comparisons anyhow...
  23. So EP wouldn't have to throw his medal up in the stands? ;-)

    Olli Juolevi | #48 | D

Can we stop writing about Tkachuk please? Don’t want anyone with that name on the team and don’t wanna read about them either ;-)
  25. Still think Virtanen is too much of a perimeter player, but regardless it’s now clear that his floor is a 3rd line winger with blazing speed that can hit, score and play a responsible two-way game. And that at a reasonable cap hit. So seems like he will turn out to be a good draft pick and a player you really need on the team in the playoffs.
