  1. No I just did not know how to select 1 portion of a post, so I wrote it out
  2. You also seem to think that a team can be packed with prospects and it will do well. Of course it won't, can you name one team where that is true?
  3. I don’t care if you don’t have time for me. Don’t respond. I responded to a post that said name 1 team that succeeded with a bunch of youth. I did naming 4 examples, look it up. He quoted me with a crap response about draft position and good vets and that was my counter post. I care about the Canucks, and just because you don’t agree with me about getting rookies in the lineup does not mean I need to find a new team. But you are welcome to not respond to my posts thanks!
  4. So Mathews time in Swiss league counts pre draft, but Dahlen and Petterssons time in Sweden (better league) post draft doesn’t? Gaudette has spent several years in college as Boeser did, same as Butcher and Kerfoot, 0 ahl games played between the 3. Go down the top 50 scorers in the league last year only Brad Marchand 2 seasons and Claude Giroux 38 games have played any AHL games. Players can develop in other leagues and be ready for nhl not playing in AHL, in fact most impact players never play a single ahl game. Veteran argument is so weak. We have plenty of vets without the signings. If they are not good enough vets then they should be traded. Teams can and do win with 3,4 or 5 rookies as I gave several examples. Our rookies are developed already, just like the players I mentioned. By the way 2 of the players I listed are top 5 picks in draft, but Marner gets a pass because he was a top four pick? Both of which have played seasons post draft in much harder leagues against men than Marner did in junior.
  5. Sure can and already have. Toronto had Mathews Marner Nylander. New Jesey had Bratt Butcher Hischier. Boston had Heinen Debrusk McAvoy. Colorado had Girardi Jost Kerfoot. All made the playoffs with 3 rookies in the lineup. But I know you think the vets that helped the Canucks finish near the bottom of the league are better. I don’t think having Pettersson Dahlin and Gaudette or even Juolevi is going to be bad for the team. If fact I think we would be better with all four than without. That is just the last 2 years. Also Colorado also had Compher, and Toronto had Brown and Zaitsev too.
  6. Yep been saying he had no clear path to play on the team, this does not surprise me at all. Juolevi could challenge for a spot also, but my guess is he starts in Utica. Defence primed to make no changes from one of the worst in the league last year. Hoping Juolevi makes the team, but not at all confident it will happen no matter how well he plays. We will waste the first 20-25 games waiting for injury to get him in is my guess. Hughes going to college is probably best, at least better than Utica. No way Hughes takes this long to make a decision if he thinks he has a realistic chance of making the Canucks. Don’t need assurances necessarily, just a shot, and I don’t think he saw one in either the message he was getting from management or roster.
  7. Boeser was tired after 5 preseason games, and yet through the other 60 games was fine. Huh! Maybe he just was not the most dominant player on the ice for one game, and Green with his unrealistic expectations sided with the vet like I said.
  8. Wow sure set me straight, what was I thinking. Yep not like a GM has anything to do with the personnel. Coach did not send Stetcher to minors, Benning did. I assume coach and GM talk about the lineup before making decisions. Last I checked Benning is Greens boss, so final say is his. If he says Stetcher was best player on the ice, he makes the team, no questions asked. Green decides his ice time.
  9. For the record I was being sarcastic, read my posts. I am all about getting rookies in the lineup. It was a response to another post, of how they could not make the team over our vets.
  10. Well Benning said the same thing before Stetcher was by far our best player in the preseason but had to wait for injuries. Then Boeser was our best player and sat for first 2 games in favour of Burmistrov. So in my eyes he does not have a good track record of keeping his word. Other examples Too, Tryamkin had a hard time getting in lineup, ice time was low even when he was often a force. Virtanen would get scratched even after good games. It just seems to me rookies have to do more than vets, not just to make the team but also to get ice time. Would like the bar to be set evenly. Rookie makes a mistake, he’s benched, vet makes a mistake, doesn’t miss a shift. When he used Stetcher as an example of how he would make room for young players was laughable. He did not make room he had an injury and had to call up someone. That he was too good to take out is not the same as making the team.
  11. My issue is as soon as we see a path for our young players to make the team, bam vets get signed and creates a roadblock. When the time comes and they prove to be ready, will Benning actually pull the trigger getting assets and clearing a path. Goldobin or Boucher could have used those games Burmistrov got for some more nhl experience, if not Archibald could. Sometimes in order for prospects to have confidence the coach needs to show he has some in them. Last year Green had confidence in vets, and set a standard for rookies far above what he had for vets. It was unrealistic expectations. Still remember Goldobin having a great game scored a goal and was promptly benched the rest of the game (was WD but still) for making a mistake. No prospect is going to come in and be perfect. Green was brought in to work with young players cause we were supposed to have a young team, we got older, why?
  12. Oh I’m almost certain they don’t all make the team. I’m not being negative, I just don’t see Benning doing what he keeps promising. That if young players come in and earn a spot he will get them in. He has not shown he is willing to do it. He keeps signing vets filling the spots young players should be playing in. What trade has Benning made early in the season to make room for a player? He waits for injuries, and I hope we don’t waste the first 20 waiting to get a player into the lineup.
  13. Bringing in the Hobey Baker award winner last year Adam Gaudette could not possibly help, just look at Will Butcher, Alex Kerfoot or Brock Boeser, god knows they didn’t help, it’s just too big a jump from college to nhl. Jonathan Dahlen who carried his team to the SHL surely can’t be an improvement on Gagner, even though he has great chemistry with Pettersson. Pettersson only broke records in SHL, which seems to have earned himself a spot, but not at his natural position of centre. Leipsic and Goldobin might as well just give them away to make room for all stars Jay Beagle and Tim Schaller. Quinn Hughes is too small and young to make the team, looked good playing against nhl players at world championship but small sample size, so better to keep floundering nhl players over larger sample size on a defence that looks primed to make zero changes. That should be a big improvement on one of the lowest scoring defences. Olli Juolevi is being called a bust cause Sergachev made it to nhl ahead of him, better stick him in AHL.
  14. Oh right we are going to keep the vets who have been on the team and helped us finish near the bottom of the nhl for the last 3 seasons, good call!
  15. So from what I’m hearing is that if Olli Juolevi, Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson, Jonathan Dahlen, Adam Gaudette, Goldobin, Leipsic come into camp are the best players they will all make the team. Great I’m on board, if they all make the team I’ll be super happy. I honestly think those players will show the best in preseason but I have very little hope they all make the team. I hope Benning keeps his word to do that, but I don’t think he will period.
  16. Totally agree seems like the others on here don’t seem to understand this fact. Not sure they can convince Hughes to sign with out clearing a spot. There needs to be an opening for competition. I have been saying trades need to happen now, not after they don’t make the team. Trading 1 player is no big deal but when you need to make 3 or 4, you will have no leverage. Every GM is going to be looking to take advantage of Benning.
  17. So remind me again who did Alex Burmistrov out play in preseason that earned him a spot over Brock Boeser? Cause I remember him being in a bunch of games to start the season, because he was a newly signed vet, he was gifted a spot, and he was only on a 1 year $900,000 contract. But no that will never happen again, if they earn it they’ll be in the lineup. I’ll believe it when I see it.
  18. Flip side to your argument is listen to Linden, a guy who was hired to lead this team. He clearly did not like the direction and could no longer be associated with this team. Aquilini is the one making these decisions, do you really trust him? Linden quit for a reason and that reason was the owner, you don’t quit because of subordinates. I trust Linden, a player who made the team at 18, been there done that experience.
  19. Hard to talk about Hughes without talking trade first, just no room right now. Hope he makes the team, would be way more exciting to watch Canucks this year. Has skills the Canucks have never had on back end. Sure hope Green doesn’t coach the skill element out of his game. Stetcher showed some real promise offensively when he first made the Canucks. Looked dangerous rookie year, making moves at the line, guess it made the coaches nervous cause have seen it less and less since then.
  20. Gaudette is a perfect candidate for 3rd line centre. Is known for being a great two way player. His offensive game is good not great. Is tenacious on the puck, speed skill and some physicality to his game. Not going to supplant Horvat or Pettersson in top 6 offensively, but is probably a bit more advanced in defensive game than Pettersson is currently.
  21. Thank you Horvat someone else around here is actually making sense. Agree with everything you said last couple posts except Leipsic can play in bottom 6 having done so already in Vegas on a team known for rolling four lines very effectively.
  22. My expectations for Pettersson is 15-20 goals and 40 points. But I project he actually gets 60 points+. I hope he plays centre if that is where he projects to be, which I do. For people saying get him on the wing to start is a mistake to me. 5 games is no big deal but playing wing is not giving him the experience he needs at centre. Better to gain that experience now. If Pettersson played centre last year not sure people would even be talking about it, and if he plays wing this year he will have the same questions next year. Canucks biggest need is a playmaking centre, cause Horvat is more of a goal scoring centre, power forward type, driving the net. Pettersson has the ability to make those around him better, and at the centre ice position maximizes those skills. On the wing he might get more breakaways, stripping passes back to defence, and maybe get more points. That is a trade off I would make to develop a true number 1 centre for years to come. If Dahlen doesn’t make the team, which is unlikely, but would love if he did, I would like to see him with Baertschi on left Virtanen on right. Could see him dangling the d to find an open Virtanen to get off his shot. Or a sweet feed on the rush.
  23. Sorry bud but wrong. Those teams did not spend anywhere close to that money on forth line. Post salaries and term for forth line players on those teams. Also difference in rookies as I have said repeatedly, our rookies are developed in other leagues. Those rookies you speak of were on teams with poor goal tending straight from draft. But mostly those teams were done in by pour management. Or maybe you think Taylor Hall-league mvp last year for Adam Larson was a good trade.
  24. Oh please enlighten me. Please show me another team that spent big money on 4th line players and became successful. I’ve shown examples of teams that get rookies in their lineups and win. So please show me a team with 8 mill tied up for 10 years on 4th line. Not including declining assets, these are brand new signings.
  25. Gaudette could be competing for a third line centre spot, so yes Beagle could block him if Horvat Sutter Pettersson also make the team. Sutter could have been our 4th line centre. 3rd line could be something like Goldobin-Gaudette-Virtanen. Not with signings though You really think Hughes is gonna sign up for the Stetcher treatment. Tryamkin bolted because he got that treatment too, and he was a 3rd round pick. Sure wish we had him in lineup last year.
