  1. Zadorov was pretty bad in the Flames Oilers game. He had trouble retrieving the puck and getting it out. Compared to him, Kyle Burroughs should be considered for the Norris Trophy for his D zone play and offensive instincts Eric Gudbranson was surprisingly competent.
  2. He is also fairly quick getting to the puck, much quicker than Juolevi. He had fewer brain dead moments than Luke Schenn. He handled pressure from opposing forechecks better than Brad Hunt. I am very impressed how confident he is with the puck.
  3. Ya, now that the flood gate is open, all Boston players will ask for the maximum for their next contract.
  4. As I mentioned previously J.B. is unlikely to be the G.M. who wins the Cup with the Canucks. Most teams have to switch G.M.'s couple of times before eventually getting it done. The G.M. who drafted the core players is unlikely to be the one who sticks around long enough to win. J.B. is an average NHL G.M. which means that he is very intelligent and capable. Average G.M.'s are not easy to replace. By definition it is very difficult to find exceptional G.M.'s available for hire. Most teams should be thankful that their G.M.'s are average rather than incompetent. Do you need an exceptional G.M. to win the Cup? Nope. Will an exceptional G.M. guarantee a Stanley Cup win? Nope.
  5. OEL played like a young Alex Edler tonight. He is so far worth the cap hit.
  6. Bourroughs played a great steady game tonight, the type of game that Luke Schenn failed to display during the preseaon with Rathbone.
  7. Yup. A big fast defensively responsible Finnish winger. Reminds me of the Tyler Motte trade.
  8. Lammikko and Bourroughs were great. I actually liked Lammikko more than Dickinson. Podkolzin still thinks like a bottom 6 player. Pettersson did not shoot much and was just dancing around. He passed a lot. Pearson had a good game. I am not a fan of Highmore but he actually played well. Chiasson was good net front presence but no finish. Overall, the forward group looks noticibly faster than last year and exhibits better sticks and interceptions. The defence pairs were good overall.
  9. For instance, MacEwan goes to the net all the time. Nothing happens. Alex Chiasson makes me really appreciate Ryan Kesler. It is not simply stand in front of the net. You have to have the hand eye to pick up the garbage and flip it up above the goalie's pads while the puck is bouncing.
  10. I don't see evidence that his hand eye coordination is as good as Alex Chiasson in front of the net. Canucks have tried several players in front of the net. Some do not know how to screen the goalie properly. Some do not have the skills to tip the shots from the D men. Some do not have the hand eye to pot in goals in close. I followed the Oilers for years. Alex Chiasson has excellent hand eye for Edmonton's power plays. I don't see any Canucks player as good as Chiasson in this aspect. However, he is too slow for 5 on 5.
  11. He is likely to struggle to score goals and points during the first half of the season. After the Olympic breaks, he may dominate the game more frequently. In the playoffs, he may leave the same impression that Dubois did in Columbus couple of years ago. I expect him to gradually ramp up his offensive stats like Ryan Kesler. It may take couple of years. His defensive awareness will allow Travis to retain him in the lineup.
  12. Burroughs plays a steady game, more steady than Hunt, Schenn, Rathbone and Jalen Chatfield previously. He knows that he must use his physical strength to stop the opponents' cycling. He is also noticeably more agile than Juolevi and gets to loose pucks quicker. His stick works for blocking passing lanes is ok. His outlet pass is also ok. Mentally he prioritizes defence over offence. If he is willing to become a scholar of the game he has the potential to become a savvy defender such as Tanev.
  13. We are going to be such a cute and cuddly team. Refs are gonna give our PP all the chances
  14. To be fair Alf, Zack MacEwen looked even worse than Gadjovich. MacEwen should have been waived instead.
  15. Don't worry, the Sharks will spit him out in 6 months due to indigestion.
  16. Is Pettersson gonna fight Petan for the nickname "Petey"? I bet Pettersson fights dirty.
  17. Both players are plugs who cannot PK. At least Gadjovich can fight.
  18. The problem with Podkolzin is clearly mental not physical. His development was delayed with his stint in Russia. Playing in Sweden, Hoglander knew his identity as a play driver and possession guy. Podkolzin is still searching for an identity in the NHL. Is he a skilled power forward like Miller? Is he a good 2 way forward like Pearson? Is he a bottom 6 checker who kills penalties and plays a matching role? This is where by reputation Travis Green is expected to help his young player to shine in the NHL.
  19. Regarding Seattle's regular season roster, they have great goaltending and good defence. Their Defence is more balanced than Vancouver. Their forward group is a bunch of dump and chase guys. However, Montreal did surprise the hockey world by getting into the Cup finals with their forward group.

  21. Alf, your faith is waning. I can feel it. The Cup parade will be postponed to 2023
  22. So far he is playing like what I thought he was last year, a younger Tanner Pearson. Just like Pearson, he has decent size, respectable shot, defensive awareness and attention to little details, but lacks elite skills of any form. He may have higher upside after playing couple of NHL seasons.
  23. Some people just suck at making certain types of decisions. That is normal.
  24. I was kind of sad for Stamkos when Tampa won the second Cup. Think of how many players, especially core players, that left Tampa since he was drafted back in 2008. The sad part for us is if they ever win a Cup, many of the core players we see today would not be a Canuck by then.
