  1. Many fans haven’t lived long enough to appreciate your point.
  2. 6- 2 Toronto wins Toronto scores during first 5 minutes Demko gets pulled Kerfoot gets winner Toffolli is pointless Hughes is at least -2
  3. I've been calling for the benching of Roussel ever since Boeser was sent to the third line. Roussel has heart and tenacity but he is not particularly fast, not that big, and his hands are not consistently good. He is the weakest link on our team, not Loui Eriksson.
  4. No you don't know what I meant. I was being sarcastic. OTOH if we look at the Canucks' shots against and for per game, opponents on average put in 2 more shots against Canucks per game. It is not bad at all. Shots is akin to +/- they are helpful if they are put into context. Otherwise they are not all that indicative.
  5. Players should be paid for the amount of shots they dish out not the amount of points they generate. Points are misleading and only intellectually dishonest people would focus on points. I'd rather have a player that generates 200 shots a season with a shooting percentage of 1 than a guy that scores every other night but refuses to shoot more.
  6. Loui has put in the effort and he hustles. He is playing with more confidence than Boeser did before the injury. Loui looks confident and knows what to do with and without the puck. He can't bury most of his chances... just like Boeser. At the very least Loui is getting those grade A chances in front of the net which he miss on. Boeser is challenged to even get those grade A chances.
  7. I forgot to mention that he falls a lot and he is terrible at body checking and fighting because his centre of gravity is too high. If he is 6 foot 3 or 6 foot 4 he can play as well as Alex Edler in his prime.
  8. This is like comparing Lidstrom to Pronger. Give it a break The answer is that the ultimate determining factor for their respective careers is whether they win the Stanley Cup. The more impressive a player is, the more disappointing it would be if he does not win a Cup.
  9. T.M. is actually the first NHL player I can think of who is over-sized to play his game. He is a good skater with good hands and good shots. He has great vision and good hockey IQ. Nonetheless, his size makes it very challenging for him to find the puck laying near his feet. We have seen countless times that he stares at his feet trying to find the puck. His over-sized body also makes it harder for him to turn around to retrieve the puck behind him, especially when a speedy forward is trying to get to the puck first.
  10. Exactly my point. There is nothing special about T.T. but he is getting open on the top of slot and burying those shots, why can't Boeser? I am optimistic that with time Boeser will finally learn to play the way T.T. does and get those dangerous chances.
  11. Dahlin is the prototypical #1 D who has the size to clear the front of the net and play physical along the boards. Hughes is the offensive specialist like Brian Leetch. Both players are franchise level D and there are less than 31 franchise D in this league right now. The ultimate criteria for a player is whether they win the Stanley Cup. This is what would ultimately determine young players' legacy in the future.
  12. My anecdote is that Pettersson is falling more and having more trouble staying on his feet since the all star break. Your observation regarding body mass may very well explain why Pettersson was seemingly playing bigger earlier in the season.
  13. There is nothing in particular that is impressive about Tyler Toffoli. He just knows where he should go at all times. He knows what to do with the puck and what to do without the puck. His skating, shooting, vision and hockey IQ are all good but not exceptional. In the past 3 games T.T. got himself open to score 3 goals. Why is that Boeser can no longer get himself open on top of the slot and shoot? This is exactly what Boeser is missing. It will come with time playing many more NHL games.
  14. In that case I hope Hughes picks up Russian quick because Tryamkin's English is ....... In the worst case scenario, Fantenberg and Luke Schenn will be (re)signed as Hughes' partner.
  15. I think the Brackett thing has more to do with not wishing to renew his contract with Canucks. If one of your employee is leaving why allow him to continue to sit in confidential meetings? Benning and Weisbrod will be more directly involved with scouting/drafting once Brackett is gone. Is this a good thing? Who knows.
  16. Unfortunately Brackett is likely to leave. J.B. and Weisbrod will be directly involved with scouting/drafting. It is difficult to say whether this will lead to good or bad things. Nowadays teams with young cores tend to overachieve one year and then underachieve the next. J.B. is likely to be fired during a future season when Canucks underachieve. Perhaps as soon as next season. Hopefully the Canucks would luck out in the draft when they miss the playoffs in the future. I think it is more likely that when Canucks win the Cup, we would say that the current G.M. at the time piggybacked off J.B.'s work and we should have J.B. back.
  17. In the long run, there are 2 ways to get the other team checking you less. First if you are shifty, you attract the defenders to you and you send the puck to your open teammate and take a hit in the process. Your teammate then makes a play or scores. When teams in the league catch this they may start backing off since checking you is perceived to be less effective and perhaps even dangerous for their D zone coverage. The second way is to be mobile all the time. You are moving your feet with your head up and your edge work allows you to evade checkers. E.P.'s skating and stick work are still not good enough to evade checking consistently. He has yet to mature physically. It took Nathan Mckinnon 5 seasons to get there. This is why keeping Toffoli is important as Boeser and E.P. are still supporting players during many games. J.T. Miller is really the engine that drives the top line. It took him many seasons to mature. Now he is the adult leading his younger teammates.
  18. 4-3 Ottawa wins and scores first Tkachuk and Chabot score
  19. You forgot to mention that the purported Linden approach is risky as well. It does not guarantee that franchise level talents would for sure be drafted. Ottawa and Montreal have a lot of prospects but none of them are franchise level yet. You also forgot to mention that long rebuilds introduce a losing culture into a young locker room. Moreover, a long rebuild means that by the time your rebuild is done your earlier prospects are now approaching 30. What has Colorado, Edmonton, Arizona, Buffalo and Florida won so far? My interpretation of the past events is that J.B. introduced a lot of veterans on longer term contracts because he DID NOT expect the rebuild to have gone so well so soon. Having Pettersson and Hughes kind of derailed his own timeline for the rebuild. I think he expected Pettersson to take at least another 1 or 2 seasons to be ready. They were not even sure Pettersson was ready to play as a centre.
  20. We are destined to get Alexis Lafreniere, don’t you worry
  21. Don’t worry, Edler will start playing the goalie, Tanev will just lie down to try to block every shot, Stecher will try to deflect the opponents’ shots, Myers will ice every puck. We have a D structure you see
  22. Yes, opposing teams are trying to hurt Hughes rather than Tanev.
  23. my compliment to Miller: if anything happens to Horvat, Miller should be the next captain of the Vancouver Canucks
