  1. Firing J.B. gives the owner a fresh start. J.B. knows too much about what went on during the past 7 years. J.B. knows how much of this mess was the owner’s fault. J.B. remembers the times when he gave certain advice to the owners but he was overruled. Working with a new management team is also a fresh start for the ownership.
  2. Franchise goalie, franchise defenceman, a potential franchise centre, a potential franchise winger, One of the most versatile forward in J.T. Miller, Hoglander and Podkolzin, Jack rathbone........ Highest draft pick was 5th overall. Now the pressure is on the next generation of management team. I hope J.B. learns from this failure and get another shot in the NHL.
  3. You actually understand hockey? What the hell are you doing on this forum then? You should leave before we kick you out
  4. Can the next 10 years turn out to be a total disaster? Of course! It may get so bad that people will miss Jim Benning’s drafting and trades. However this is too early to tell right now. We will have to see whether J.R. brings in a Yesman to be his puppet G.M. doing his bidding or someone who truly is independent thinking. I would agree that the hiring of J.R. presents a bigger risk than hiring B.B.
  5. Who ever becomes the G.M. the candidate needs to be frank and candid during his interview. He needs to let his interviewer know what he is good at, what he is bad at but can improve, and what he wishes to delegate to others altogether. No one is perfect. Had J.B. been properly supervised and delegated some of his responsibility to others he may still be here.
  6. Well, instead of trying to figure out what he would do carrying the puck, now Pettersson can try to figure out the opposing players during PK and decide what he is going to do in response. PK may be a good fit for Pettersson's overthinking nature. He may be better at disrupting the puck carrier than carrying the puck himself and make a play.
  7. He got a plan because he was fired multiple times and had the down time to figure out what he would do differently. That is experience.
  8. Things are easy and clear when you have NO PRESSURE. When you are the owner of a Canadian hockey team your pressure is huge. Decisions are also informed by committees following a process which take time.
  9. It makes sense if he is referring to recent weeks. It is doubtful if he is saying that J.B. and J.W. were on an island throughout the years.
  10. Benning is a nice guy but he does not seem to really know how to monitor people outside of their apparent results and build a culture. The problem then is that he may lack the humility or self awareness to ask for help. Perhaps this aspect of organizational management was not apparent to him when he was in Boston and Buffalo. Benning knows the importance of drafting, prospects, speed and skill of players. He may be less informed when it comes to other things. As I mentioned previously he is an average G.M. which means that he is competent and decent, but not exceptional. This is why when coaches and G.M.'s get fired, they tend to take couple years off and figure out what went wrong and what they could have done better.
  11. And yet full control does not guarantee anything. Things can get much much worse for the coming years. The new G.M. and new head coach are not guaranteed to do much better than J.B. and T.G. We may get another G.M. that sucks at drafting.
  12. The entire season was predicated on the assumption that Boeser and Pettersson would lead the team in offence. Thereafter the depth players would support them. When this assumption is proven to be horribly wrong, a lot of things cascaded downward. The depth players can keep the games close but they need Boeser and Pettersson to score those crucial goals. The horrible PK is mainly J.B.'s fault. Although he did mention in the summer that it was difficult to acquire right handed centres.
  13. You can see how Travis Green is trying to improve the team's overall 5 on 5 play. You can see how the Canucks have great talent and they should be in the playoff race. However, their 2 highest paid forwards are crapping their pants and failed to contribute consistently. There are many close games that we could have won if these 2 so called franchise players scored.
  14. HIm and Boeser have possibly ruined the team. Whether you agree with the team's direction at the start of this season or not, the team was built on the assumption that Pettersson and Boeser would lead the team in offence. The added team depth is there to do the rest. Regardless of why these 2 kids are crapping their pants, the coach is gonna get fired, likely the G.M. as well. The new G.M. and coaching staff may opt for a new direction which means that some key players may be traded and the team's overall developmental schedule may be pushed far into the future. We may never be able to get another player as versatile as J.T. Miller. These 2 guys are truly the franchise players we deserve.
  15. He is complimentary for sure which means that he will score a lot one day on a great team. However, he is not J.T. Miller who is capable of driving his line. He has to be traded this year or else he can go to arbitration for a one year deal then walk.
  16. Pettersson and Boeser are the reasons why I am hesitant to see J.B. fired. Can anyone blame him and the ownership putting their trust in these 2 players? Had they known that Pettersson and Boeser would be useless J.B. would have taken a different approach this summer.
  17. I go to the gym and I am keeping my weight down. I think I have around 40 years to give to follow this team
  18. People need to understand that the biggest crisis facing this team is not the coaching staff nor management team, it is Boeser and Pettersson. If Boeser and Pettersson are guaranteed franchise players then this season is nothing but a delay to the long term plan. New coaches and managers can be hired to continue on the path if needed. However, if the ownership and management team are all WRONG to build this team around Boeser and Pettersson...................................pain, endless pain.................................
  19. Fans are just guessing. We have no idea what the ownership decided. Are they going to try for the playoffs or are they going to do a retool? Since the ownership and J.B. were wrong with their projections for the core players and the team, what is their new time frame to make playoffs and compete? Did they lose faith in Pettersson and Boeser as core pieces? Why are the coaching staff and management still intact? We just don't know right now. Are they in a wait and see mode to see what they can get for Boeser and Miller as well as possible candidates for head coach? Has the ownership made a final decision yet regarding the direction of the team? We don't know.
  20. It's a retool akin to Colorado trading Ryan O'Reilly and Duchene.
  21. Look at the Islanders and Matt Barzel. Their expectation for this season is much higher than the Canucks. Does Barry Trotz get blamed as much as Green? Fans need to be fair and crap on Pettersson and Boeser more. They take up a huge chunk of the cap space. They are getting paid for merely trying right now.
  22. J.B. mentioned mid summer that it was difficult to procure right handed forwards including centres.
