Neither of the two remaining vets (Dowling & DiGuiseppi) had good nights tonight. DiGuiseppi was on for 4 even strength goals against. Stevens and Arseneau not in the lineup tonight either. They have a tough schedule in Feb. -

Losing Dries to the big club and Pederson to waivers took a bite out of Abby's offence. Both would have been major contributors if they were in Abby all year. I guess these last few games should be an eyeopener to the prospects on just how much better they have to be in order to compete with some of the older and bigger teams in the AHL, let alone what they will face in the NHL They and the coaches have their work cut out for them if they want to make some noise in the post season. -
You don't think that any other teams had really bad attendance at times over the years? In 1981-82 Van, 12,858; Three original six teams... same year: CHI, 12 698, DET, 12,496; BOST, 12,024 , all had worse attendance records than Vancouver. This has happened to most teams over time. The big difference, IMO, is the incredibly negative press here in BC and the ridiculous and nasty vitriol spewed out over the internet both here and out East.

A healthy Mikheyev playing on a line with Petey and Kuzmenko is going to be a fun one to watch next year. This is probably the only line that stays intact. Most likely some players are brought in and others moved out on all the other lines. Rumors out there that Toronto GM is in town looking to make a deal. Do not see much that would make sense unless it is a swap of Nylander for Boesser and not sure I like that trade

Did DiGuiseppi get sent back down? No mention in CapFriendly of that happening -

Both Dries and Dowling are termed veteran players in the AHL so it is not likely they would both be playing in the same game due to limitations on # of veterans the team can ice for a game. My guess is both are capable of playing any forward position if need be. Dowling has been used at wing this year on a line with Stevens when Stevens was in the lineup. -

Having just Dries, Pederson and Delia back in the lineup for Abby would, IMO, put them in serious contention to go all the way to the Calder Cup finals. -
I recall some gawd awful teams in the 70's and 80's but don't recall there being as much negativity in the fan base. We were just happy to have an NHL team.

Calgary defenceman Dennis Gilbert gets two for an illegal check to the head on Linus Karlsson. Abbotsford's Alex Kannok Leipert gets one game for an instigator penalty in the final five mins I'm fine with that. Just glad to see them suspend Gilbert for 2 games... maybe should have been 3 though IMO. -
I would prefer to see Pods, Hogs, Aman, Rathbone and Karlsson, all stay down in Abby and be part of a run for the Calder Cup and gain playoff experience rather than get called up to be part of the $%^& show that is the Vancouver Canucks. They will get limited ice time and not see any playoff action with the big club so why bring them up? Evaluations of their play can be made with the Abby Canucks.

You will note that I said "this type of player" . I am well aware that AKL is not NHL material right now. I was more referencing the need in Vancouver for a player like him that has the willingness to take on all comers in defence of his team mates. -

For disenchanted Vancouver fans this is the place to be. I just hope the big club leaves the prospects (Karlsson, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Aman and Rathbone) down in Abby for a solid playoff run. Let the prospects continue to develop on the farm. -

Gilbert deserved to get a beating for the elbow to the head on Karlsson. To bad Gilbert went down as quickly as he did; hats off to AKL, This type of player is one of the many things the Vancouver Canucks are lacking IMO. -
With the federal government poised to table a budget in two weeks and embark on a new era of deficit financing and debt accumulation, it’s useful to take a quick long-term look at the finances of the federal government from a more historical perspective. Using data from the Canada Yearbook for the period 1867 to 1965 and the Federal Fiscal Reference Tables for 1966 to 2014 and the 2015 federal budget for 2015, Figure 1 (below) plots the total federal net debt in billions of dollars from 1867 to 2015. In 1867, the net debt of the Government of Canada was $75.7 million. During the nation-building phase of the Canadian economy from 1867 to 1913, which entailed the subsidized construction of transcontinental railways and the settlement of the West, the net debt grew from $75.7 million to $314.3 million. As a result of the First World War and the Great Depression, the net debt grew to reach $3.1 billion by 1938. The Second World War saw the net debt climb further to reach $11.3 billion by 1945. Growth of the public debt continued and the 25 years between 1945 and 1970 saw the debt reach $20.3 billion. The period since 1970 witnessed enormous growth in the federal net debt as successive deficits combined with high interest rates saw the net debt rise from $20.3 billion to reach a peak of $609 billion in 1996—the era of the federal fiscal crisis. The period of federal restraint that followed combined by relatively robust economic growth saw balanced budgets and a reduction in the federal net debt to $516.3 billion by 2007. With the financial crisis and recession of 2008-09, federal net debt began to rise again and by 2015 had reached a new all-time high of $692 billion.

The last time that happened in Canada was under the Liberal government of John Chretien and Paul Martin.

Next three Abby games should be doozies. All are home games vs Calgary Wranglers. Bragging rights and playoff positioning are on the line.
-
Crazy good yes; surprising no. Both Hughes and Petey hate to lose. Now if it was only an infectious disease and the rest of the team caught it
-
Dermott not playing tonight; Ekman Larson back in the lineup.

Hard to believe that I watched them in concert in the old Sam Houston Coliseum way back in October of 1971 while visiting relatives. LOL... lights went down and everyone lit up.

I did not get to see the game but Wolf is one of the best goalies in the AHL right now and I am guessing he was a factor in the game tonight. -

I hope he does not lose heart and continues to work hard at improving all facets of his game. I am disappointed but have not lost hope.
