  1. I fully expect that if he does sign this year, he will continue finishing his college education during the off season and get his degree as well as play hockey. He would then have the best of both worlds. Even if a hockey career does not pan out for him the money he would make in his 2 or 3 years of an entry level contract would go a long way towards setting him up for a career out of hockey.
  2. My guess is that if he signs he would make a minimum of $162,000 / year. Even if he starts out in the AHL, he would get a minimum $70,000 AHL salary plus the standard $92,500 signing bonus. I doubt that he could make that much per year fresh out of college. If he absolutely rocks it in training camp; he would be making around a million per year not including any performance bonuses he might achieve.
  3. Deb.. You know better that to post that lol...... They would be unable to fit their beer belly in the picture
  4. Damn!! When your HOT your HOT!! Two more so far tonight
  5. I think the biggest difference between the two players is in their commitment to improve on their deficiencies. Derrick at age 26 never seemed able to do that and while the jury is still out on Rafferty who is only 24; he seems to be getting better by the month. Time will tell if he continues to progress to the point that he can transition into a full time NHL'er.
  6. LOL....He's not Swedish but I am hoping he plays well and can Finnish his hits as well as Edler does
  7. I'm not the superstitious type but have watched many a team blow a lead because they think they have the game won after one period; thus my comment to keep the pedal down.
  8. I think I would prefer them to each have a more defensive minded partner as that gives them a bit more freedom to do what they do best and that is to provide offence with their skating and creativity.
  9. I think that is one of the reasons that Rafferty replaces Stetcher on the 3rd pairing. The Canucks will no doubt be looking to trim down their cap hit before a number of the star players are looking for big raises in pay.
  10. Nice to see that Teves is back in the lineup tonight as well. Comets just need to keep the foot down on the pedal for the next two periods
  11. Glad to see you back on CDC Sid... always enjoy your input on the various player threads.
  12. I think I read somewhere that he was an amateur scout for the NYI in 2018-19. Did a bit of research just to be sure; yes he is now a pro scout with the Islanders.
  13. Dats hockey was in error with his statement that JB went and got him; this is true. I was merely pointing out that J Benning saw J Brackett's potential abilities and moved him up; not Gillis.
  14. Yes he was but as an amateur scout. It was Jim Benning that promoted him to director of amateur scouting replacing the departed Eric Crawford. Happened around the same time that Gilman was replaced by Weisbrod as AGM.
  15. I'm guessing you have already narrowed the number of posters that you read on a regular basis as have I; although I still enjoy the opinions outside that group as well. It is not our business to run ( that is a good thing lol) and not our dollar so we are free to put forward ideas and conjecture without the negative downside a mistake like in a business that we run or manage. It is nice to have that sometimes in our lives as a diversion to the real world.
  16. Fred; I'm not sure that sticking to the facts would even work on a discussion board. 90% of what is posted on here is either opinion or conjecture. That is what makes the board so interesting. I am only speaking for myself but I find the diversity of opinions and conjecture of what ifs; enlightening and I enjoy reading them even if I may have a different take on what they are saying.
  17. I did say a "bit" disturbing lol. I too am glad to see any production from a 7th rounder long shot. I hope he continues to improve and expand on his overall game.
  18. He is getting there but I also think he is best served by playing the rest of the season and hopefully playoffs for the Comets. My guess is that if they call anyone up to play LD, it would be Brisbois.
  19. It is a bit disturbing in that is how he is scoring all of his points so far but he likely has two more years to flesh out his game in other areas and become a more complete player. Next year should be a better year to evaluate his progression in that regard.
  20. I am impressed with not only Rafferty but JB and the scouting staff's ability to find quality prospects / players in the NCAA and either draft them ( Boeser, Gaudette, Demko, Hughes ) or sign them as a free agent ( Stetcher ). Other NCAA players knocking at the NHL door but either still in college or the AHL include; Rafferty, Teves, Lockwood, Madden, Malone, McDonough and Rathbone. This appears to be a dominant trend by JB and staff over the last four years and has led to the cupboards going from barren to reasonably well stocked on both the Canuck and Comets and hopefully the years going forward will fill the cupboard to overflowing.
  21. I was wondering about that as well. His play looked decent enough even though he has not provided much offence his +/- has been good. I know not many put much into the +/- stat and generally I do not either but the fact he is a defensive D man and still has a very good stat in that regard really has me wondering what the issue actually is.
  22. LOL... That is a scary combination for one in your chosen profession.
  23. I think it is far more likely that Rafferty replaces Stetcher at some point in time, whether that is this season or next, remains to be seen
