2022-23 Abbotsford Canucks Thread
Kootenay Gold replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I can understand the need to get an evaluation on Wolanin as he is a UFA, the same goes for DeGiuseppe. All the others are under team control as RFA's and evaluations could have been done while in Abby. Pretty sure they have already made up their mind on a number of players futures with the club heading into next year. Brisebois, Kalynuk and Juulsen are all 25 and Lockwood 24. These are the ones that decisions need to be made on. Not a fan of bringing up Raty, Pods and Aman and hope they are all papered down to Abby by the trade deadline. -

Hopefully Spencer Martin has got his MOJO back. Without Silovs in Abby they need Martin to step up big time. -
I think the original post was in reference to which Canuck wore it best and there were a few that came to my mind but only Manny was a center iirc . Lots of other greats across the NHL had worn #27 too. .
-
Manny Malhotra comes to mind. wearing #27 for the Canucks and he was a Center man.

All eligible NCAA players are done playing on or before April 9th. Lets hope that the Canucks sign two of them.... Livingstone and McDonough.

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

I had thought of him too but as you alluded to; he is a RHD. Still could be made to work though. -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

I wonder if they bring up Brisebois and send Wolanin down just before Wolanin requires waivers? I just don't see Rathbone or Kalynuk as better options than Brisebois. -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

I don't find that at all peculiar. Luke is very well respected by both players and management. Yes; he is going to be traded but management probably sent him back home to be with his wife in the mean time as she is near term in her pregnancy. The team is likely in the final stages of deciding which offer to go with (I am assuming there were a few) and are allowing him time to spend with the family before the trade goes through. IMO; there is a very good chance that he re-signs with Vancouver in the off season for one or more years but would want a NMC as part of that contract. -

I get that. It is just frustrating to see the Abby team gutted just as they were starting to gel as a group. -

They call most of the better players up to Vancouver to a team that is not going to make the playoffs and in the process gut the farm team which should make the playoffs. Makes little sense to me. -
He is showing a lot of promise and I love his competitive edge too.
-
There must have been something about his play / skating or possibly behaviour, that caused them to send him to the ECHL. IMO; very unlikely to be qualified. One of the 50 roster spots should be used for someone that was recently drafted and shows more promise. Others that, IMO, will not be re-signed are Dowling and Keeper.

[PGT] New York Rangers at Vancouver Canucks | Feb. 15, 2023

I think he was implying papering him down so he could play for Abby in the playoffs once the Van Canucks season is over. -

Both former Canuck big boys Gadjovich and Big Mac are on the CapFriendly injured list. -
I am also wondering if there is a limit to the number that can be papered down. Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm thinking it is two but not sure.
-
@BoudriasDo Aman and Pods have to be papered down before the trade deadline if they are still with the Van Canucks? What about Kuzmenko? He is on an ELC and would really create havoc if he was papered down and joined the Abby Canucks for their AHL playoff run once the season is over in Vancouver.

Contrary to some views on here; I don't think Demko is on the block at all. I think this is more to do with evaluating Silovs against a pretty good NHL team and also as a reward for his solid play in Abby. He no longer has his added signing bonus to pad his salary and only makes 70K in the minors. Getting a boost in wages for his time spent with the big club is a nice added benefit too.
-
It was noticed lol thus the maybe in a couple of years and a bit of luck.

Maybe in a couple of years

Insert Klimovich in place of Pods. Pods will be with the big club next year. That still could turn out to be a very good line IMO.

Even if he only becomes a solid AHL'er that would be doing much better than most former 6th round picks. Nice to see steady improvement in so many of the young prospects.
