Good to see that he is back skating now although it will probably take him at least a couple of months to get back into condition and up to speed. Encouraging nevertheless.
-
Lets all just hope that he is cleared to play fairly soon. Once he gets back up to speed; I think he will become a fan favorite in short order as he appears to play a similar style to Alex Burrows. Who knows; maybe he will be put on the line with Pettersson and Boeser and clean up on the few rebounds that didn't go in

We definitely need more than just Quinn Hughes added to the mix and Jack Rathbone might fill the bill as another high end puck moving D-man

He is adapting nicely!

Barring an amazing uptick in the play of the defense on this team I can see two of them being moved out at the TDL for picks. We may even see one or more forward veterans moved as well. It will be interesting to see what JB does at that time.

I think his game has been steadily improving during the preseason. He seems to be able to adjust fairly quickly to the smaller ice and he is also looking better at taking face offs although he still has a ways to go IMO. I would like to see someone on the team to actually be able to pass it to him where he can get off his one time rocket of a shot without first having to tee it up because the pass was off the target. The should help provide some much needed scoring.

2018-19 Utica Comets Thread

IMO... The ones that will likely be on the team, I have in bold type........ others yet to be sent down; again just my opinion, are Juolevi, Motte and Gaunce and Archibald if they clear waivers. Trent Cull is going to have a lot of quality options to throw at other teams this year; not like last year where GM Johnson was scrambling to find players in the ECHL to fill holes in the lineup due to injury's. -
Not to worried about whether he takes over or not. More concerned that Elias and Brock stay injury free and give us a one two punch in our forward groupings. We are really going to need that this year.
-
These two players have totally different personal makeups. The odds of Gaudette becoming Brendan Gaunce 2.0 are very low IMO. Gaudette is a very driven individual while Gaunce has a more laid back personality.
-
IMO Olli will be sent to Utica before the start of the season even if he earns a spot on the team. I actually think he would be better off long term getting big minutes in all situations in Utica vs limited playing time in Vancouver. If he is deemed so much better than most of the other D-men then; yes, he should make the team outright. While I thought he played quite well in his first game, the one tonight will give a better indication of where his development is at as he will be facing a mostly veteran squad from LA.
-
He has already been sent to Utica
-
Because he is still officially a prospect whereas Goldy has played in the NHL for parts of 3 seasons already. I expect he will be moved to this board by the moderators once the regular season starts and he is playing in the NHL for the Canucks.
-
Sautner was put on waivers today for the purpose of sending him to Utica... I hope he clears!
-
It looks like the Canucks plan on giving him another look or two as Ashton Sautner and Reid Boucher were the ones put on waivers today for the purpose of sending them to Utica while Olli Juolevi remains with the Canucks.
-
In a way, I'n glad that they chose to send him down. I would rather see him getting more ice time and being used in more situations in Utica than he likely would have gotten on the big club. He may just surprise us and be back up here at the TDL if all goes well.
-
If they are good enough to be on the team in Utica they will be there. I would not be too concerned about a log jam as the AHL does not have a roster limit. You can only dress 20 players for a game but could have 28 or more on the roster. This might actually be a good thing as it will keep those playing, working hard, so that they do not lose their spot to someone who is sitting out. It also gives coach Cull the luxury of having the ability to rotate players in and out of the lineup when they have the dreaded 3 games in 3 nights BS that seems to be common in the AHL. This should help reduce the number of injuries to the players overall as they have the chance to sit and heal if they are banged up rather than toughing it out and risking further injury. Players that I see probably headed to Kalamazoo are: Reid Gardiner, Vincent Arseneau, Brendan Bradley, Kyle Thomas, Y. P. Laplante, Brendan Woods, Jessie Graham and Brandon Anselmini

I was really impressed with his compete level tonight.

You hit the nail on the head with this observation about Goldy.

Your wasting your time replying to appleboy. He just likes to troll with the same old rant about the 4 year term. He obviously has no @#$% clue that length of term is irrelevant as long as it is not a NMC or NTC contract. If Gaudette out plays him in the next two years, Beagle will be moved. appleboy would have to be incredibly dense to not see that but the constant rant continues never the less.
-
If Guddy and Tanev can stay injury free and Hutton and Stetcher have rebound years this is a d-man roster that just might work well. Of course MDZ would have to be moved at the TDL for added pick(s) in the 2019 draft; an added bonus.
-
If Guddy and Tanev can both play free of any major injuries and Hutton plays the way he did two years ago; the upcoming season will be an improved one from the disaster we saw on the back end last year. On a positive note; we have a couple of bonafide players in the "A" that are better equipped to come up and fill in this year if injuries do occur.

A lot of the fans on this board remind me of young children struggling to eat their supper because they are only focused on what is for dessert lol. We have some very good dessert's coming but we need to eat our supper first.

I doubt that either will be claimed though
