  1. I tend to agree that our goals for may take a bit of a dip but on the flip side of that I think our goals against will be much improved. I greatly admired the Sedin's and have a lot of respect for what they accomplished in their prime but these last few years have been difficult to watch as the the slow regression in their game became more of an issue. They were never the most fleet of foot and that became more and more evident as the seasons wore on. Many times when they lost possession in the offensive zone they were unable to come back with speed and back check effectively. This left our D men out manned and in a difficult situation. I expect the likes of Pettersson and Gaudette, because of their skating, will improve the teams overall ability to effectively back check and break up the other teams rush. We saw some of that already in the young stars tournament and hopefully that continues on into the preseason and beyond. We were the 3rd worst team in goals against at 264 and if we can improve on that by say 20 to 25 less goals against; the expected drop off in the goals for will be much less significant.
  2. Oh Oh! Look out CDC'rs We have an English professor onboard! Lord help us all!
  3. I think your projected time lines are reasonable but we will have to wait and see how these players perform in the preseason to have a better perspective of where they are in their development.
  4. it will be interesting to watch his progress in Utica this year. I think the few games he got in thereat the tail end of last season should have helped prepare him for the coming season. He might get off to a slow start in Utica but I doubt that will last for long as his skill level and determination take over
  5. It is a symptom of becoming a rabid Canuck fan. watch out! It is contagious!
  6. I agree that they will be competing for the same spots but Big Mac already has a year's development in hand and it may take Jonah some time to adjust to the pace of the game in the AHL.
  7. Now that all the condiments are in place we just need the hot dog
  8. If he makes it, that would be the most logical outcome but why limit his potential by automatically assuming that is all he can be? I would rather they give him a decent look in all situations over the course of the season and see in what areas he is improving on and where he has plateaued. The AHL is, after all, a developmental league so why put a limit on a player before you have fully evaluated his progress and potential. For some players that may take a few years and for some they just never really show much progress and eventually are cut loose.
  9. Lol. I didn't say I expected him to hit a point per game; just that it would be nice to see. I would however expect to see him used on both the PP as net front presence and on the PK as well. How well he fares in the points dept. will depend in large part as to who his line mates are.
  10. That is pretty close to what i envisioned for the lineup with a few different looks. I do not think Adam Gaudette will play the season in Utica. He may start there but I would expect him to be the first forward called up if he does. I would also bet on coach Cull keeping at least 15 forwards around and rotating them in until the inevitable injury bug hits the team. On the D I wonder how well McEneny has recovered from his injury and if he has had sufficient time to train properly? if he has, i like your choices on D other than i would switch out Graham for Dirk. Regardless of how it all works out; this season in Utica is shaping up to be one of their best ones so far.........Calder here we come!
  11. Question for the more savvy CDC posters on this site: How do you go about deleting a quote you have referenced in error while composing a reply? I can delete the text that accompanies the quote but not the source of the quote. As you can see from the above post by me I originally misquoted Westcoasting as the origin where in fact it was FireGillis was the original quote I was wanting to use.
  12. That would be amazing for the future of the Canucks! But with a couple names like Forsberg and Sundin out there i just don't see it. I like your enthusiasm for Elias I really do but I think your post would have made more sense had it said "he may well turn out to be" rather than 'he will be". He certainly projects to be a star player but he has yet to play a single season game yet so we will have to wait and see just how his career pans out.
  13. I am hoping that coach Cull juggles the lines a bit over the course of the game so we get to see how the different players perform on different line combinations, I like the idea of trying Jasek on a line with EP and JD to see how they mesh and then doing the same thing with Palmu.
  14. I hope you are right about that because I am a fan of his. I have, however, learned to temper my expectations as numerous prospects over the years just did not progress to the point that they became NHL regulars. This season in the AHL, with the Comets, should give us a much better evaluation on how his game is progressing. It certainly should help in that he will have lots of talented players around him to feed of of and up his game. Nothing I would like better than to see him end the season at near a point per game and playing in all situations.
  15. He is not quite there yet but the potential he displayed in Utica at the end of the season was very apparent. I am hoping he has a dominant injury free season in Utica this year so we can better judge where his ceiling might be. I agree with you that he does seem to be under most fans radar at the moment.
  16. What Logjam??? LOL Kero, Jasek, Boucher Darcy, Palmu, Gadjovich MacEwen, Lind, MacMaster Hamilton, Carcone, Motte Bancks, Archibald, Gardiner Arseneau, Bradley, Thomas Laplante and Woods..................and that does not include..........Dahlen, Gaudette, Gaunce, Goldobin or Leipsic..........and that is just the forwards. Trent Cull is going to have lots to choose from by the look of it and Kalamazoo in the ECHL will benefit from the overflow. Going to be fun watching the Comets kick butt this coming season.
  17. I don't remember the exact year but Vancouver got clobbered by Philadelphia 13-3. seems to me that Patric Sundstrom was on that team at the time but not sure. Time has a way of blurring ones memory lol. It was a brutal game to watch as they were not only dominated on the scoreboard but physically as well.
  18. Tougher for sure but the skating is not what it is today. The early 80's with the broad street bullies always makes me think of the movie Slapshot lol. Now that was some rough and tumble hockey!
  19. Big time difference between hockey games of that era and now
  20. I'm dating myself but I used to watch a lot of the original 6 hockey games with my dad when I was a young. I would cheer for either Toronto or Montreal if they were playing a US team but didn't really have a preference between Toronto and Montreal.
  21. Spoken like a true Canucks fan!!
  22. He reminds me a bit of Alex Grenier but hopefully with a bit more upside. Even if he only plays at the AHL level, he could be a valuable asset to mentor the younger players coming into the mix over the years.
  23. There is of course, a chance you might be eating those words in a few years. Lol. I guess we will just have to see; but I will agree that he is no where near ready to take faceoffs at the moment.
  24. Never say never lol. Kid looks like he can do just about anything he sets his mind to.
