I guess he is just going to have to spend some quality time with Manny. That should help improve his success ratio.
-
I have a feeling by the end of this season his comments about Jake's development are going to look pretty ridiculous.
-
AWESOME!!!!
-
I think 17-24 is attainable too if he has the right line mates; especially if the work he put in this summer on improving his stick work and shooting pays off.
-
Well said!! I can't even begin to imagine what kind of team we would have if the fans here on CDC got to do the picking and choosing.
-
He is only 32 so I am betting he might be re-signed for 2 to 3 more years But probably with a MTC instead of a full NTC.
-
I am expecting Juolevi to start in Utica as well but very much doubt he will be there for long. Would rather see him getting lots of ice time on the farm than sitting on the bench as the 7th d-man to start this season. IMO MDZ Hutton or Pouliot will be moved by the trade deadline if not before.
-
I'm hoping he wears either #2 or #3. #2 worn by Ohlund, Hamhuis and Halward. # 3 worn by Lidster, Bieksa and lindgren

Thanks for your input Sid. It certainly fleshes out the discussion about Palmu but as you mentioned we will just have to wait and see how he does in the AHL this year.
-
The big difference though is that Schroeder was a 1st round draft pick and expected to have a very good shot of an decent NHL career. Palmu was drafted in the 6th round and was a big long shot to even be offered a contract. I would suggest that Palmu has already exceeded expectations of how he might pan out vs Schroeder having, as you mentioned, a serviceable NHL career.

Darn shame for sure; lol. We should just trade all the veterans to make room for everyone. Isn't that what so many on here have been saying over the last two months. What was management thinking in having so many players competing for positions??? Can you imagine the logjam that is going to create?? Seriously; It is really nice to see some actual competition for spots on the team. That has been lacking for a number of years now and it is about time players actually have to earn their spots by outplaying others vying for a position on the team. For the young guns wanting to make the team they will have to outdo some of the veterans and if not this year they can hone their skills in Utica until they are ready to win a spot.
-
The fact that he not only survived but thrived in the Finnish men's league gives me a lot more hope that he will do really well in the AHL this year. He is one to watch, for sure!

I happen to like that management brought in three players in Beagle, Schaller and Roussel that will provide the sandpaper that was lacking in the mix last year. I disagree on your evaluation of Beagle as he is a very good backup to Sutter and will make it easier for Greener to distribute the line match ups. I do not see Sutter being moved this year at all as he is very under rated IMO by the fan base and he provides a stable veteran presence for what might be a very young team this year. Having these types of players on the team this year gives JB the time needed to fully develop players like Gadjovich and MacEwen in the minors in hopes that they will be ready in a year or two to replace those we brought in to fill the gap.

They should rename the program as the Trump school of journalism... he would be one of their star students.

I quite agree with what you are saying Alf but I also realize that not every player that the Canucks draft, regardless if they went in the first round or in the anywhere after that, will become an NHL player with a long career. We all have high expectations for them, as we should, I even have hopes that Markstrom can have a dominant season and fully reach his potential but that remains to be seen. Certainly Thatcher is also looking very promising but has only played one game in the NHL so far.
-
i thought I just did; as did you. I am hoping for great things from both of them but neither have proven themselves at the NHL level yet. As for Markstrom; if he can clean up his issues with letting a soft first goal in; which was the case many times last year, he might still become a very good NHL goalie.
-
That was pretty much my take. Seems just about all of the big dollar long term deals have not lived up to expectations. Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver most certainly did not get value for the dollars spent.
-
I really hope you turn out to be right about great goal tending....... it wasn't that many years ago that we thought that Markstrom was going to be the next Schneider or Luongo. I'll temper my expectations till both Demko and DiPietro have solid NHL seasons behind them
-
Only Eriksson and Sutter have NTC's in the short term; all the others could be traded at any time if the need arises
-
Trevor Knapp.... You're BUSTED lol! Hard to be a troll on this thread!!
-
Very well stated Rob. I very much agree!

In hind sight Thomas Vanek went for 2.6 mil on a one year deal that year and that would probably have been the best signing for the canucks. FYI these are the signings of 2016 at the start of free agency. Not very many of them panned out very well for the team that signed them. This is a copy of what was posted in the Hockey News and that is why it is in bold type. KYLE OKPOSO, RW, SIGNS SEVEN-YEAR DEAL WORTH $42 MILLION WITH SABRES. THOMAS VANEK, LW, SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL WORTH $2.6 MILLION WITH RED WINGS. JASON CHIMERA, LW, SIGNS TWO-YEAR DEAL WORTH $4.5 MILLION WITH ISLANDERS. ALEXANDER RADULOV, RW, SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL WORTH $5.75 MILLION WITH CANADIENS. TROY BROUWER, RW, SIGNS FOUR-YEAR DEAL WORTH $18 MILLION WITH FLAMES. ERIC STAAL, C, SIGNS THREE YEAR DEAL WORTH $10.5 MILLION WITH WILD. DAVID BACKES, C, SIGNS FIVE-YEAR DEAL WORTH $30 MILLION WITH BRUINS. MILAN LUCIC, LW, SIGNS SEVEN-YEAR DEAL WORTH $42 MILLION WITH OILERS. FRANS NIELSEN, C, SIGNS SIX-YEAR DEAL WORTH $31.5 MILLION WITH RED WINGS. LOUI ERIKSSON, RW, SIGNS SIX-YEAR DEAL WORTH $36 MILLION WITH CANUCKS. ANDREW LADD, LW, SIGNS SEVEN-YEAR DEAL WORTH $38.5 MILLION WITH ISLANDERS. DAVID PERRON, LW, SIGNS TWO-YEAR DEAL WORTH $7.5 MILLION WITH BLUES.

As good as I think Dahlen will eventually become it is my guess he starts the season in Utica, gets lots of ice time and is used in all situations especially as a PP trigger man. That may do more to speed up his development than getting limited minutes at the start of the season in Vancouver.
-
This thread has been very quiet on OJ but I think once he hits the ice in preseason this thread is going to be a very hot topic. I really hope he comes in and makes it really difficult to send him to the minors.
-
It is probably because he has some value to the team even if he is overpaid. His defensive play is very good, he can play either wing up and down the lineup, can play on PP or PK if need be, so those are values that are not measured in goals, assists or points. It is true that he was brought in to provide some much needed scoring and I think you will see an improvement this year especially if he is paired with Pettersson. You do realize that referring to a professional athlete with that kind of childish rant says more about you than it does about him.
