  1. I tend to agree that they are not going to be as bad as everyone thinks; however, this is from the Hockey News today: The gambling site Bodog released its over/under point projections for the NHL's 31 teams in 2018-19, with Tampa Bay, Toronto, Winnipeg and Nashville expected to battle for the Presidents' Trophy. The gambling site Bodog released its over/under point projections for the NHL's 31 teams in 2018-19, with Tampa Bay, Toronto, Winnipeg and Nashville expected to battle for the Presidents' Trophy. Vancouver Canucks: 77.5 points Vancouver Canucks: 77.5 points UNDER. Incoming rookie Elias Pettersson won just about everything he could in Europe and on the international stage last season. He should get prepared for a very different experience in his first NHL go-around, although the Calder Trophy is within his grasp. I guess we must be the eternal optimists. My hope is that Jake, Elias et al. have something to say about that.
  2. Only six Rob? I have a hunch it could be a lot more than that from what I have seen on here lol.
  3. I don't give much credence to exactly where they were spotted in the order. The fact that we have 4 in the top 50 when there are 31 other teams out there with prospects of their own; I think that is a pretty good batting average.
  4. I hope he does not rush back either and is fully recovered. I am fairly optimistic about his potential and his chances of carving out a pro career whether that be in the AHL or NHL.
  5. Roussel definitely has the wheels and noticing that Schaller had 3 SH goals last year leads me to think he does as well. You have a point about that being a possible and interesting option for Greener to use at times during the season.
  6. Both bring different elements to their game but it is going to be fun to watch them this year for sure!
  7. Oh the joys of posting to a rabid fan base!
  8. Lol. Now if you could just convince him of that. Say! Wasn't that jovo's old number?
  9. Schroeder to me just did not come across as being stocky. He was blazingly fast that is for sure! So far he has not been able to stick in the NHL on a regular basis. But this thread is about Palmu so I will shift focus back to what I see in Petrus that I think will lead to success for him down the road. While not as fast as Jordan; Petrus seems to have great vision and from what I have seen of his play a knack for getting the puck to a team mate in a position to score. I am expecting him to do very well in Utica this year and I guess we will just have to see where it goes from there.
  10. He might be now but then he is 27 years old. He was a skinny kid when Vancouver drafted him.
  11. Schroeder was a skinny kid, Palmu is built like a fire hydrant. Big difference! Although Palmu is short by NHL standards he is built like Gadjovich in the upper body.
  12. From what you are saying, it sounds like he is quite a bit ahead of his scheduled return date. I heard that he would be returning around Christmas time from about a month ago.
  13. Elite prospects has him listed as being able to play both sides.
  14. I have a good feeling about this kid and I think he is going to surprise a lot of people with his play. really liked the few glimpses we got to see of his play in Utica at the end of last season. It sucked that he got hurt and was not able to play vs the Marlies as he just might have made a difference.
  15. If Palmu spends most of the upcoming season in Utica; he will most likely be in the top five on the team in points.
  16. I would love to see both Adam and Elias come in and blow the doors off! Can you imagine what a fun and entertaining season it would be?
  17. If he makes the Canucks but was only getting 8-10 minutes a game I would not be happy about that. If that were the case then he would be better served playing big minutes in all situations in Utica and be fully ready to hit the NHL running next year. If, on the other hand, he makes the Canucks and is getting 14+ minutes / game and being used in a lot of different situations; I would be OK with that. I guess it all comes down to how dominant he is in the preseason. Time will tell.
  18. I have never questioned his elite talent but I do have concerns about him being able to maintain body mass through a very demanding travel and playing schedule. The other concern is due to the smaller ice surface here and the added speed and size of the opponents. He had room to maneuver in Sweden that made him hard to contain but here in the smaller sized rinks, while still difficult, for the opposition to target him for hits along the boards he will be more vulnerable. I very much hope he has a stellar season, wins the Calder, and blows everyone away with his pure talent but that remains to be seen, until then, I have some concerns
  19. Roussel and Beagle both have modified no trade clauses as part of their contracts. This in no way stops the management team from trading them at any time at their discretion. The only restriction is the list of teams that they can not be traded to. If management for example, wanted to trade Jay Beagle this season they could but would be limited as to the teams he would allow a trade to. This in no way blocks any of the prospects from pushing out a veteran if the prospect has demonstrably outplayed the vet. Schaller has no restrictions on his contract and could be moved at any time if need be.
  20. It great to see the exuberance of so many fans about how many goals / points Elias will get but we should try and curb those expectations a bit. He is, after all, a rookie and one with a slight build at that. I would rather err on the conservative side of what he might be capable of doing this season and be elated at him perhaps surpassing my expectations rather than feeling let down if he fails to live up to them. I personally think he might get off to a slow start but by the New year will be showing regular glimpses of what we all hope him to be
  21. I am betting that Travis starts Elias as 2nd line RW with Sam at center and Loui playing LW. Depending on how Elias progresses he will probably be playing #2 C after Christmas barring injury etc. He will likely get lots of PP time along with Boeser and our PP should be one of the most prolific in the league this year.
  22. I also like what Roussel, Beagle and Schaller provide and think that Brendan Gaunce is very much on the bubble even though he is very responsible defensively. He just lacks that in your face demeanor and aggressiveness that he needs in order to take him to the next level.
  23. Regardless of whether one is pro or anti Nikita, Vancouver holds his NHL rights and should he choose to come back once his contract is up in the KHL; it would be up to him to prove that he is better than some of the other D men on the team at that time. That might be a challenge with the high end D men that likely will be in the lineup with a couple of years experience behind them.
  24. That would be the ideal situation but I think it may take him 20 games or so to adjust to the smaller ice surface, the overall speed of the game and getting familiar with both new systems and line mates. I am confident he will do all of this but just not sure of the timeline that it will take him. You are right that once he is comfortable in the position the depth at center will be much improved and even with injuries Adam Gaudette will be waiting in the wings.
  25. Cory provides really good unbiased coverage of the farm team in Utica. He is probably the best read of the bunch.
