The only ones I find decent commentary from are Cory Hergott and Jannik Beichler and Vanessa Jang.

I would like to see this too but think it is more likely to happen next year vs this year. If "Big Mac" does go back down to Utica; I hope they give him a shot at playing Center at some point in the season.
-
I do not consider Granlund as a core player either but for the moment he has value as a contributor to the team. Until the progression in the development of our prospects makes him expendable; he will be part of the lineup heading in to the season. If one or more prospects have an exceptional camp, this expend-ability could very easily happen sooner rather than later IMO.

With the way that Elias processes the game; I think, in time, he could learn to play all 3 forward positions extremely well. Imagine the various line combo's that may be options in the years ahead.
-
The line of Leipsic, Gaudette and Virtanen looked pretty good in the last few games of the past season and I would love to see Travis have a long look at that line combo in the preseason. If Virtanen's stick and hand work in the off season pays off; this could be a surprisingly effective energy line that is also capable of chipping in perhaps more than just a few goals. The other line combo I would like to see in preseason would be Eriksson, Gagner and Pettersson or Eriksson, Granlund and Pettersson.
-
I'm not sure that I would looking at those options for line combinations during the regular season. While the players you picked may have the desired skill sets, both lines lack a physical presence to keep the other teams from taking liberties. I have Granlund slotted as a 2nd line C option with Pettersson on RW and Roussel as the LW. My reasoning for putting Roussel up on that line was two fold: one, he will provide muscle on that line and two; he will provide a net presence that may beneficial as both Pettersson and Granlund are more suited as the play makers.

2018-19 Utica Comets Thread
Kootenay Gold replied to stonecoldstevebernier's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I am hoping for a playoff rematch this year... I expect the outcome could be much different, especially with so many good prospects joining the Utica team this coming season. -
I agree that he needs to continue improving his one step acceleration but as I have not seen very many clips of his skating; I am also wondering how his lateral movement rates. I wonder if others on this thread have seen a lot of him and would care to comment on that.
-
I also like this player and what he could bring to the table as a power forward. That being said; I hope he spends one more year in Utica and gets the opportunity to be used in all types of situations including as a center. Lots of playing time in Utica this year should help develop him as a more complete and valuable player IMO.
-
I think he will start the season in Utica as well but would not be surprised if he gets called up towards the latter part of the year if not sooner.
-
It will be interesting to follow his development in the AHL this year as he will no longer be a man amongst boys. I hope he has really worked on his skating during the off season as that seems to be the biggest knock on him as a prospect.
-
LOL.. If they keep on hallucinating like that, they might even be able to convince themselves that they are going to win the Stanley cup this year.
-
Good luck with that! They will waste no time in trashing him at every opportunity just like they have done with so many others before him.
-
Thanks for the update. It will be interesting to see how he does at camp. At least he has had a full summer to train and work towards getting back into game shape.
-
Does anyone have an information update on McEneny's progress from his injury and if he will be ready to go at training camp?
-
I personally have my doubts that he will make the team right out of camp even if he has a very good one. I fully expect him to be in Utica for a length of time to see how well, and how quickly, he can adapt to the NA game. That being said; I bet he gets called up after the Christmas break if he is doing well on the farm club.
-
I tend to agree with you. Even though they spent probably 90 % or more of their time together, it does not factor in goals by other players on the line with them. Thomas Vanek and Alex Burrows are decent examples of that. Perhaps a better gauge of their replacement value would be the total points accumulated between them. If you use that metric, we need to replace approximately 105 points with whomever fills their shoes on that line.

I thought it was an OK trade at the time too but Barry Peterson was never quite the same after his surgery and it didn't seem like we gave Glen Wesely a fair chance to adjust. I may be wrong on the Wesely part as that was ages ago and my memory is not as good as it used to be.
-
In my opinion, the Cam Neely trade goes down as the worst trade they have ever made hands down!
-
I stand corrected. I thought he had a couple of 50's but in looking at his stats the closest he came was 49.
-
I am dating myself but I really enjoyed watching Canuck's hockey back in the day even though they were not very good, they played with passion and grit.
-
I can't argue that the Canuck's have made some horrendous trades but Curt Fraser for Toni Tanti was not one of them. Vancouver had lots of players on the team to take on the other teams tough guys. Names from that era that come to mind are Harold Snepsts, Ron Delorme, Tiger Williams, Garth Butcher and Doug Halward. Toni Tanti went on to become a sniper with multiple 50 goal seasons. That was something the team desperately required at the time.
-
I find the thought of Pettersson centering a line with Roussel and Erikson, intriguing. Nice blend of skill, toughness, and experience on one line with all of them capable of chipping in. Only thing lacking is one of them being really good at faceoffs.

Canucks Top Ten prospects (Updated for 2018-2019)
Kootenay Gold replied to 48MPHSlapShot's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I agree with most of your list but would have put Jasek ahead of both Lind and Palmu. Not that I don't like them as prospects but think Jasek is more NHL ready right now -
