'Pandora papers' leak - a massive list of probable tax cheats
Ilunga replied to Dazzle's topic in Off-Topic General
It certainly is better than our 2 party preferred system. We do have the greens and if they vote with labour they can block the libs in the senate, libs being the conservatives here in Aus. However political donations, lobbyists and pork barreling screw things here. -

Check my last few posts on the US politics thread. It's not just the money,it's also lobbyists working for politicians and politicians turning into lobbyists. Dick Cheney was the ultimate corporate lobbyist for Halliburton as VP. -

You're not the boss of me ! I have taught my son that one to my chagrin at times. Seriously common sense and my moral code of treating others the way I wish to be treated makes it easy to be my own person. However you will respect my Authoriti ! -

As much as I admire your spirit in a 2 party system that will not have much effect. I vote independent or green depending on who I believe might have a chance of being elected or where they will direct their preferences. I have written countless letters to my local member and a member he is. Until we break up the 2 party system, take political donations and lobbyists out of the equation not much will change. -

The trade war. Some say it has had a deeper impact. Our treasurer stated https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/sep/05/australian-economy-has-stood-up-better-than-expected-in-face-of-china-trade-fight-frydenberg-says The price of iron ore has collapsed, this will eventually have a big effect on our economy.

Here you go Bit of a read. Well worth it if you are genuinely interested. https://www.icij.org/investigations/panama-papers/five-years-later-panama-papers-still-having-a-big-impact/. Some people are being held to account and just as importantly IMO it has inspired a bunch of young Journo's to take up the cause. -

As far as I am concerned "we" are a community within a community. My heart goes out to you and I really do empathize with you. I had my son from Wednesday till Sunday for school holiday time. It is only 4 days each 2 weeks this year, graduating to 5 next year graduating to 6 in 2023. I have not and will not insult his mother however she has been diagnosed as passing her anxiety on to him and now he finds it extremely hard to be away from her. The Covid lockdowns have exacerbated this. He broke down the first 2 days. Gets "homesick" if we leave the farm for more than an hour or 2. He did get better by the last day when we bumped into friends at the playground. It is heart breaking to see the person you love more than life itself that distressed. The feeling of loneliness after I drop him off is gut wrenching. I sat for hours just looking at his toys and pictures of him. Anyway this might seem cheesy however I get solace from this song and the band has one of my favourite people in it,Brian Cox as a young fella taking a break from studying to be an astrophysicist, to be a rock star

Thanks Brother I have the deepest respect for the frontline programs. They always make it here to Aus where they are aired on SBS. The team that broke the story are airing it tonight on our version of frontline, four corners. https://www.abc.net.au/4corners/the-secret-riches-of-a-parallel-universe/13567094 Four corners often leads the world on issues like this. I will post the link if it comes up after the show. This will be the story frontline airs. Edit. This hits the "High spots" of the story that I watched. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-10-04/pandora-papers-australian-accountant-asiaciti-graeme-briggs-leak/100482936 I was hoping to post the episode however you guys need this https://iview.abc.net.au/ If you are interested download the app and check four corners link's. -
