[Signing] Canucks sign Micheal Ferland

I had forgotten they qualified Goldy. My bad. If Baertschi is a legit top 6 winger, primed for a bounce back year, surely he DOES have value. (?) To me, he's not a top 6 forward. On any team. His game is too peripheral, and if that's your game, you better be one hell of a passer... He's entering his TENTH season this year and has only racked up 136 points. I don't see anywhere he fits now and it's only going to get tougher as some of our prospects come knocking. Hoglander is back at Rogle for one more year but that kid is for real. If he doesn't get a roster spot next year ('20/'21) I'll be very surprised. -

Schaller's only making $1.9M One plan option for Benning likely is to clear out some lesser paid guys if he can't dump Erik$$on. Moving Schaller, and say, Baertschi on, would free up an additional $5.6M That's enough to wiggle in Boeser and buys time to clear out the rest of our c(R)ap. -

Did they make the Orca bigger on the "new" jersey? It looks like it in that pic. It always bothered the hell out of me that our main logo was so small. -

Since Goldobin isn't signed yet, it has to be 2 of Erik$$on, Sutter, and Baertschi. -
I looped the intro to Downfall by Children of Bodom. It's perfect. High energy, fast, anthemic https://vocaroo.com/i/s1xaziu3rjf0

Sooner than later we might see Tryamkin, Myers, Benn, Hughes, Woo, Juolevi, Stecher and that's not even touching the solid depth guys Benning also signed in Teves and Rafferty -

I don't see a spot for him in the lineup now, and he's not the only one. At least Dorsetts doctor was wise enough to tell him when it was time to close shop. Baer is one hit away from possibly being very seriously injured long term (or worse) with that concussion history. We're talking about a guy who had concussion symptoms return simply by being at altitude (in Colorado, not even playing) -

Boeser 6'1" 210 lbs Horvat 6'0" 215 lbs Pearson 6'1" 201 lbs Miller 6'1" 218 lbs Ferland 6'1" 217 lbs We now have 5 guys at or towards the top of our lineup that are gonna be really hard to knock off the puck. -

We kind of ran out of steam towards the end of the season but I attribute that to having too many guys play outside of their natural (and best suited) roles. Despite that though, you had to work hard to beat our team last year, pretty much every night. What Benning has done is take the pressure off those guys who were asked to play over their heads last year, in adding some real key pieces. I'm already on record saying Markstrom is going to have a helluva year with possibly a Vezina nod. If we can cut out some of the fat still sticking around, this team could surprise. -

I like that he was apparently alluding to Tampa when he said "there are some teams out there just built on skill".... and how in the playoffs that doesn't get it done. You need to knock skulls. -

The gist of the Ferland interview: "Vancouver was always in the mix" "young skilled team" "wanted back in Canada" "hopes he can add to the top 6 group" "good meetings with Green and Benning, who said he'd have a chance to play with Peety, Boeser, and Bo" "Myers and Ferland were very influenced by speaking to Green" "totally different feel in Canada. More passion in Canadian market" "Great young pieces in Vancouver. looking well rounded" "super excited. beautiful city. loves the rink. can't wait to get going" "played in the AHL with Baertschi. doesn't really know anyone else." "thinks he can help in the playoffs where physicality means more." "thinks he's hitting his prime now" "couldn't be a better fit" "100% healthy now" -

I can't count how many times I've said the exact same thing. If nobody hates you, then your team sucks. Hence my comments earlier regarding 2011. Starting to feel like that again and I totally love it too. -

There's actually a huge back story behind Ferland and his rise to professional hockey. The guy went through a tonne of %$ to get where he is, and his mom had to literally scratch and claw to make enough money to get him through each level of hockey growing up. Not unlike a lot of kids in hockey, but his story is worth reading up on. So yeah, I think values in life play a huge role here. I don't think there's anything bizarre about extolling the virtues about a "good Canadian kid" -
