  1. awesome! Smith is a total headcase and hates playing us. Gonna be fun watching him get lit up and freak out!
  2. Our team will lack Schennergy next year
  3. ^ This is what happens when you allow a drunk schizophrenic who's tripping on acid, into the kitchen
  4. because if you can't make fun of yourself, someone will do it for you!
  5. Official now: https://www.nhl.com/penguins/news/penguins-acquire-galchenyuk-and-joseph-from-arizona-for-phil-kessel/c-308130948
  6. This is a "Sonoran Hot Dog", a specialty food item in Arizona. It's a hot dog wrapped in bacon and grilled. Now you understand this trade from Phil's perspective.
  7. Regular jersey = the same except for no VANCOUVER "Heritage" looks like a pile of pablum barfed up by a baby with that awful green->blue transition Black jersey KICKS ARSE
  8. We don't have to do anything but wait. It was reported last week that Eriksson packed his family up and either moved back to Dallas, or was in the process of doing so. All Benning has to do is wait for him to fail to report, and he can terminate the contract for breach. done and done.
  9. He took his family and bolted to Dallas without even calling Benning back. If he fails to report the Canucks can terminate his contract for breach.
  10. Burakovsky is a confusing guy. Born in Austria, has a Russian name, and plays for Sweden internationally......
  11. Goldy for Burakovsky (Caps save Cap hehe, and swap Ruskies who might do well with a fresh look) Kapanen is up for grabs in TO. They're looking for a RHD for him though so not sure if that's possible unless Benning hires Brian Burke to help him navigate the swamp.... but if at all possible, Kapanen would be a killer acquisition. The teams were talking about Tanev at the TDL maybe that can be revisited... We need one or two top 6 winger(s) - one to play consistently with Bo and one more on Peetys line and 2 more legit D. The good thing is, it might just cost money... the bad this is it might be too much depending on how BB manages his pile of middling contracts. (Eriksson being the kicker) (just one of 1000 possibilities) Kapanen - Pettersson - Boeser (!) Burakovsky - Horvat - Leivo Roussel - Gaudette - Connor Brown (squeezed out for TO's extra cap relief with deal for Kapanen) Motte - MacEwen - Virtanen* (could move up if he breaks out) Find a way to add (L)Gostisbehere and one of (R)Ristolainen / (R)Zeitsev /(L)Gardiner Beagle (better suited to an established playoff team) Granlund (jack of all skates at this point but time to give him a shot somewhere else before he dies inside) Pearson (had almost 20 goals last year between Pitt/Van. Could sell a team on that for their bottom 6) Schaller (they don't have good enough clam chowdah in Van) Spooner (needs a good cuddle) Sutter (signed 2 more years. could be a good depth center on established playoff team) Baertschi (probably a 40 point winger if he can stay healthy. Has the Vancurses though) Goldy (swap for Burakovsky?) Tanev (RHD to TO in some kind of deal/package for Kapanen?) Eriksson (send him to the press box with a book of concession coupons until he begs for his life) Benning........... i wish you luck.
  12. I found this over at The Athletic (necro'd articles not behind paywall???) He's had 2 surgeries on that wrist, and one for a broken back. Let's be careful is all I'm saying. https://theathletic.com/576924/2018/10/10/the-athletties-the-boeser-thing-the-dj-scratch-the-wrist-roll-and-the-legend-of-dekey-pete/
  13. I'm not sure how? Maybe we could start with normalizing the discrepancy between the US and CDN dollar..... maybe pay all players in the NHL with Bettman Bucks? lol
  14. I alluded to why I don't like the idea. 1. His wrist issues (bread n butter) 2. I personally don't think giving a young kid that much money so early in his career is healthy. Either way. He's going to be richer than his wildest dreams.... i think the emergence of very young RFA's getting huge payday's is also being driven by shyster agents who are likely taking advantage of kids who most likely don't know squat about how the league, the cap, and contracts even work, aside from what they tell them.
  15. Which is brutal. ....Unless you play for the Stars, Knights, Panthers, Lightning (and soon to be Seattle) - as Texas, Nevada, Florida, and Washington have no Income Tax. Then you might not care as much....
  16. Also, your vote isn't set up correctly. you're asking people if he should be signed for 8 years or not, but if you say no, you can't complete the poll regarding term. It should be two separate questions. just fyi
  17. addendum: With regards to Boeser (and with all due respect to his talent level), we're talking about a player who's primary weapon, and hence his value to any team, is his shot. He's STILL taping his wrist up heavily. Every. single. game. That doesn't concern anyone? We're talking about an injury that happened 2 1/2 years ago! I suppose I'm playing Devil's Advocate here somewhat, but if I'm a GM and looking at re-signing him, I'm asking every doctor that's ever looked at that wrist what his consensus on long term health is.... because you don't tape a wrist up that much unless there's still some kind of issue with it. And after almost 3 years, that's a pretty big issue when a kid lives off his shot. 4-5 years tops. If he's still healthy and productive at 26/27 years old then give him what he wants, or trade him for a blue chip prospect and start the process all over again.
  18. I don't like these long term deals, and especially with players who are barely 20 years old. People can talk about "maturity" all they want, but at 20-21-22 you're barely a freakin adult. Handing a KID upwards of $100 MILLION DOLLARS (8x8 would be $85M adjusted to CDN) just seems like a very bad idea. How many guys that age does anyone here know who could handle that kind of immediate payday? Not to mention, you're giving out the big payday at a time when a player should be focusing on getting better so they can make that money a little bit later after they've proven they're really worth it. (please remember, gone are the days of the 3 year ELC. Most often you're looking at the first year being burned, or even a 1 year ELC depending on certain factors) I realize the NHL today and specifically, the CBA, aren't set up to reflect this... and I hope in the next round of discussions this gets addressed. Bridge deals are a healthy thing for a young player in more ways than one, and these huge long term contracts being given to young RFA's are hurting the guys at the other end who've played their whole lives and now are seeing the money they'd get, go to some kid who still has acne. It's wrong. my 2 bits
  19. Correct. NMV means a player cannot move NTC means a player can't be traded So any player with a NTC can still be left unprotected and be claimed and moved to an expansion team, whereby one with a NMC can't.
  20. Interesting motivational ploy.... ( yes, it's a real billboard )
  21. Transitioning to a younger team has challenges (for coaches and players alike) that you don't see with more veteran teams. I'm kind of stating the obvious here.... but Goldobin is 23 years old. Not a vet by any stretch of the imagination, but at that age people can still mature at vastly different rates. Horvat is also 23 years old, and when you listen to either of these two speak to the media you can clearly see that Bo is a much more mature personality at the same age as Goldobin. Heck Virtanen is 22 and you could throw him in there as well. Those 2 guys will "get it" at some point and i think it'll happen sooner than later. There just needs to be a bit more rope for some guys over others because to be honest, they need it in order to take the next step. (just don't hang yourself!)
