Brobergs IQ and offensive game worry me. Maybe it will come around but I think Soderstrom and Harley looked way better. Plus Sod played top 4 as a 17 year old in the SHL Not even EP can claim that.
-
I agree. JB will get the right guy at 10. this is a very weird draft where a guy like Dach or Krewbs or boldy may still be available. I like Bowen, But we are flush with lefties In Q OJ Tram Rathbone Edler Just don't see the point. I would much rather JB sign Lee or Panerin, and try for EK while while giving Woo a shot and finding a new home for Tanev Sutter who if people think he is untradable don't get what he brings when healthy, especially if we eat a mill. Loui can be moved to a team like the sens who need 46 million just to reach the cap floor. That opens up 14 mill plus the 27 we already have. Forget giving away our young core for a maybe. When we havew the dough to actually aquire guys that have Vancouver on the list of the only Canadian team they would even talk to. This team I bet starts training camp without Loui and Sutter. Loiu is actually a decent player who just makes about 2 mill to muchh

Some of those guys you mentioned went back to college or overseas. Throw in the fact that many on that list were underwhelming to start their careers. Just shows a guy at 5th 7th or 21st, can be better there the first year in the NHL than guys drafted in the top 3. Even Mack took a while to put it all together. kot was really not that special and was benched for the last part of the season. Miro had 33 points and the worst analytics on his team. Tho he will get better, But at this point Makar all the way. Nico and Patrick have done nothing to warrant their draft picks. Larkin Charlie went back to college. Aho went back to Europe I believe. Mark didn't make it his first year. and the older players you mentioned are all first ballot HOFS Not one of our elite guys you mentioned went straight to the NHL. Not sure this post was very accurate. I could make a list of guys like Barzel Point Bo ETC who were picked higher who made the jump. Unless you have a Crosby or McDavid its a crapshoot.

Funny I heard Broberg has limited offensive potential. Soderstrom is the D we should target. Or try to maybe acquire a 2nd 1st and take a forward and maybe Harley if we can get a top 15 pick. Broberg has a terrible hockey IQ from the games I have seen. For that guy to compare him to Edler is just hilarious. Eagle plays on a bad back every game of his life and still munches minutes and his PPG was .63

Well said. Some fans tend to expect every prospect to fly out of the gates. I mean just my opinion but Serg and chych do not look like top 4 D , yet Oj who hasn't even had the chance to show what he is capable of in the NHL is considered a worse pick than them. based on what? Serg went back to JR after being drafted, then joined a stacked team and had a good rookie year on offense. This year teams took a lot of that away from him and he according to a lot of TB fans was a liability when on the ice. Jacob Is ok but I think OJ has a much higher ceiling than both. A tanev who according to many scouts will be a 50 point 2-way dman Ill take that any day of the week. Injuries have set him back and its a shame our fanbase cuts him no slack because of who was taken 7th. I personally am glad we didn't draft MT I doubt Hughes or Petey would be on the team if we had gone in that direction. Cheers.
-
He was also one of the youngest in his draft class, almost a 2017pick. Throw in the 2 major injuries and its easy to see why he hasn't made it yet. Besides what is he barely 20 FFS lol.
-
No point defending OJ. they bring up useless facts, yet never mention how well he did in Finland as an 18-year-old, or how he had 13 points in 18 games in Utica while basically having no offseason to train. Serg in TB was terrible this year on a stacked team. OJ has done nothing to label him a bust. I guess Fox Fabbro are busts since they played 3 years before coming to the NHL. Plus they didn't have 2 major injuries
-
I'm not a homer in the least. I base my assumptions based on his draft year with London where he was clearly the best all around D in the OHL., Who was the highest ranked D. I base it on the fact in Finland he was an 18-year-old playing top 4 minutes while leading his team in points for D in the playoffs. He would have most likely cracked last years team except he was recovering from back surgery. And when he was in Utica had 13v points in 18 games. Those are all facts. How does that make me a homer? He has had some bad luck with being hurt but that in no way is indicative that JB made the wrong choice. People like you need to have that instant gratification. Shall I point out guys like Hedman or the twins took longer than OJ before becoming difference makers? Or how about Todd or Markus? Why not give him a couple of years in the show before you predict it was a bad pick. Let's ask Pred fas if they are happy with Jossi. or Stars fans about Klingberg. Or sens fans about Chabot. Call me a homer because I like what I have seen so far is like calling you a troll for basing your opinion on zero facts. Cheers. BTW Woo is a right shot, and OJ if he isn't better than Hutton than Ill concede this one to you.
-
I cant wait for you to eat your word on OJ He lit up the AHL before he got injured and until he plays for us next year all you haters can pretend you know what you talking about How did he do in Finland? Why was he rated the best 2 way D in the CHL oh and how did seg do on a stacked TB team? Terrible You OJ haters are like Parrots. I bet you know nothing of his body of work, you just think well he has suited up yet so he must be a bust. News flash he barely made the cutoff for the 2016 draft. He was almost a 2017 pick.
-
Why would you trade him Chances are we lose Marky leaving DAemkoas our only decent goalie Dipietro will be ready around the expansion draft to join the big club. You trade him now for what a crappy return? you have a lot of weird thoughts this one takes the cake. Would you have traded Demko in his last year of college? Goalies have no value until they can prove themselves in the NHL. Sure lets trade him for a 4th, watch him turn into the next elite goalie and set our organizational need back 5 years. Makes tons of sense.

[PROPOSAL] OTTAWA - VANCOUVER trade
youngguns19 replied to canuckistani's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think the fact he is not happy here makes the NTC mute. I would love to see him Sutter Shaller and Tanev gone all for picks and prospects. Tanev if Woo makes the team and we sign EK or make a trade for trouba. Tanev makes a lot of sense in the peg. Not one for one, but if we through in a 20220 first and maybe Lockwood may be it piques their interest? -
Why would we lose one of them? I thought as long as we had a third goalie who meets the criteria it was fine. I think Seattle goes the vegas route and takes picks to select the player's teams want.. Especially when they have to reach the cap floor. I think Hutton is the guy we lose.
-
Imnot so sure where all this injury talk comes from. Yes, he played 51c games this year, due to a groin issue. Now if it had been his repaired tendon I would totally agree with you. Since the fact, our own star in Brock has had to battle the wrist, the back and the groin, doesn't make me want to not resign him long term. Ek is fully healthy right now and was averaging over 25 mins after returning on the final game of the season. He has also played 33 mins and has looked like his old self in the 2nd round. If JB throws stupid money at him Ifor one will not riot. He is exactly what we need. Sure maybe in 5 years, the deal might not look as good, but to get 5 years of him plus our young core?Yes, please. Its only money which JB has set us up nicely for. other than Petey and Hughes nobody will be making north of 9..Unless we have someone like podz slip to us at 10 and he turns into a complete stud. But with the cap going up every year especially when Seattle who just happens to be a huge media market. I fully expect a huge new tv deal out of the states Hockey is becoming huge in every part of the states, where most millennials have grown up with it. Look at Vegas. They had 90000 people watching outside. That's Canada numbers Hate on GB but he friggen saved the NHL from becoming the next CFL. cheers Ps I read somwherereNashville has the best overall experience to watch a game. Who would have thunk that a country town would embrace the NHL so much.
-
I think EK is a possibility. People keep bringing up the cap. By the time we need to resign most of our young core to big contracts. Several high contracts will be off the books. In fact, I will go out on a limb and say, Sutter, Loui, and possibly Tanev will be gone before the summer is over. Tanev maybe not till the deadline, Unless we sign EK and woo makes the team. That is 15 million of the books right there. Brock and Edler will eat up about12 mill of our 24 million cap space. So even without those players leaving we can still sign EK.
-
all god points. But the reason he was sent back was to get stronger. It hasn't happened that I can see. As for protecting him depending on who you believe if he plays one game or 10 he is eligible. You can bet your but he will be with the team this year. if we make the playoffs.I would guess he ends up playing 10 if that's the rule. I also agree on not rushing our players. which is why im glad Motte Rousell and beagle are on the team. But Qis possibly in the same group as EP and Brock. those guys are good enough right away. I believe Quinn is. and I think he would have done well at times and struggled at times. But right about now he would most likely be used to the speed and all that comes with the NHL. Cheers

Imsorry but woo and Rathbone will be in the NHL within 2 years. People really have no idea how good rath is. People can argue with me all they want. I subscribe to the athletic. remember an article on rath and the hype around him. he was by some scouts a top 5 pick. He stayed in Highschool and his stock plummeted, due to the terrible league he was in. In his freshman year he is already on the top line, pk pp, is a very physical very very good skater, and one hell of a shot. Woo has doubled his ppg this year without losing his physical edge. I see 9 games for him next year. then we will see. Asa for Rathbone he is on record if allowed by Van. even if that ends up being Utica. Madden if he has a big growth spurt I see him in Utrica next year. It is time to get our future all in our system. Hughes going back did nothing for him. He could have had this whole year to be taught and grow with our guys instead of that mess in Michigan He didn't put on weight, we all knew he would dominate, what a waste.

no all I said was what the scouts have pointed out. listen to JBand I forget the other guy's name, were raving about his shot right before they drafted him. as for his skating. That was brought up several times at prospect camp and from diff sources out there His edgework may not be as good as Quinns.but his overall skating has been directly compared to Quinn by Quinn. People forget if Jack took the traditional route he was projected as a top 5 pick at one point. Not sure why people would argue this. We should behappy a 3rd round pick is playing the most mins on his team, averaging clolse to appoint game, and is bif with a cannon of a shot. If you doubt what I'm saying ask Sid or watch him play.Cheers

Rathbone is outscoring 80% of d in college as a freshman. He has earned top minutes plus spk and pp time. He has the best shot of all our prospects. He is fasr from a c+ Right now he is trajecting very sim to q He even can skate as well, with a way better shot.

Haven't checked out the Rangers Right side. But I think he turns pro after this season. The kid just wants to play for a team where he can make an immediate impact.I don't see him playing his senior year. Risk a career-ending injury. When he can just tell the Canes he has no intention of signing their, Then the Canes can trade his rights over the summer to the highest bidder that meets his list of say 10 teams and basically they write it up that whoever gets him he has to sign for. He doesn't come across an A-hole. I think he just doesn't want to be like 9th on the depth chart kind of thing. With the amount of LHD we have I would trade trans rights for his. Or Hutton Who is starting to get value plus whatever to balance out Not sure if Guddy stay for the next 3 years or not But Jack is 6"3 195 only like 15, Woo is 6 feet over 200 pounds. Oj is 6 something well over 200. Plus all can skate. Tram is not needed like he was when he bolted. I hate those kinds of players. Would much rather see a right side of EK65 lol. Woo, Fox Left side. Quinn OJ Rathbone By this time Stech and Edler as spares

I have been following this kid since the just before his draft year, when all the pundits would reveal their who to watch for etc. Boner at that time was listed as a possible top 10 pick. some had him even top 5. But they all said. Scouts don't like the HS circuit he plays in. If he wants to be in that mix He would have to go the route Brock took or Quinn took. He wanted to finish with his HS Kind of like a Dahlen situation. Maybe he thought, in the end, it would pan out for him. Well, it didn't for him. But sure as hell did for us. Guys like him and JR Adam fox play in a weaker div then Quinn so he should rack up the points. I think Adam has 15 in 7 games. But he didn't start as a freshman doing what Jack has done so far. He has stated 3 times that I have seen. Said That if the Canucks think he is ready after this year his goal is to turn pro asap. Harvard isn't going to be winning the frozen4 anytime soon. and this is just my own thought. But maybe that played into his decision to go there? I could be wrong but I think he had offers in the big ten. Plus other better schools. Again this is just my thought but maybe Jack maybe even Adam chose those Schools knowing they would get a ton of playing time. In Adams case He flat out said. If he played for the Lames he would have spent a lot of time in the AHL. Sadly he got traded to a team in the same position. Jack needs to get this guy to come here lol. it would be an easy sell. Besides Woo. We have nothing coming on the right side. This year draft top is heavy on LHD. Right now the highest rated RHD is Honkas Brother. Who on most websites is the highest I saw was 14th.The other sites he was anywhere from 26th to 42nd With Edler OJ, Hughes, Rathbone Breeze. Yes after Edler basically said its Vancouver or retirement, and the fact we need a vet to go with these kidsandI think he is still our best DA I'm pretty sure depending on where we are at the TDL. He does JB a huge favor and waives on the promise he is resigned. Every player knows JB is all about character. a handshake from him is not like one from Doogie. I think Tram can kiss for sure being top 2 maybe even top 4 goodbye. Maybe Fox looks at our Right side and is like I could probably jump right in. Informs the Canes he plans on not signing with them, and Maybe Jack lets it slip to JB a little inside info lol. and we trade trams rights for foxes rights. Or we go after EK65 hard in the summer. and go after fox after he graduates. people who don't follow prospects. Have no clue how good this kid might be. Just makes that trade even more lopsided Abetter version of Hanafin who shoots right. Better if he continues on this trajectory. Man what a terrible trade.Right now if we had the chance. Would you trade Trams rights for Foxes rights maybe the canes have to pony up a bit more? Cheers.

On my old account, I deleted at the end of the season due to the fact no matter how much i loved CDC. there were just too many as you first pointed out plastic fans. it seemed a lot of people took pleasure if our prospects were not Brock right away. OJ in particular, as well ass Jake who IMO Literally was on the precipice of being a career minor leaguer or 4th line NHLer at best. We used to be the ones among lots of others like sid or rush, that pointed out OJ in every tier he steps up takes about 10 games to get acclimated. A lot of us pointed out how partly due to how he was played his first pro season. And how WD had him on a leash,m but unlike TG He also gave Jake a little leeway and tons of extra time off the ice. Jake responded to the year in Utica. where he was well kinda a chubster lol. He matured like everyone at that age usually does. The summer after Utica was all about fitness. He came to camp in great shape but needed tons of work on his offensive game. Mostly his shot. As you pointed out before he was 3rd in the league 5on5 driving the play. Sadly his linemates were usually dowd or Archie or other career minor league players IMO. I am not sure how you feel about Granny. I love the fact he can literally play anywhere in the lineup and not hurt you. Sutter gets crapped on as does Edler. People bitch about the 3 new guys JB signed. I think Rousell is the new burrows. Plus he can really fly and play anywhere in the top 12. Anyone who would like to crap on Beagle Edler or Sutter I suggest you look at where our PK was before they got injured. (6th) Now 20th. Edler was on p[ace for 42 points.) He also said he would waive if the Nucks promised to resign him. We all know JB,s word is gold. He will retire a Canuck and he will obviously take a hometown discount. People Blame DP for Tanev having the worst plus/minus on the team, Yet DP has been a plus the entire year, so not sure about that logic The only reason Eagle is a minus 5. Is the same reason Brock and Bo were minus 7 around the same time Edler went down. The team suffered a couple of blowout losses and our top line just happened to be on the ice when the other team's top line scored some softies and some nice goals. Eagle up to his injury was playing quite well. In Tanevs defense. I think him and DP just don't mesh that well. Nobody,s fault. Maybe it is time to get OJ up here and park Zotto who is gone after the season and see if OJ meshes with guys like Tanev or Guddy or Stech. I think as well as our left side has played compared to last year. I'm curious Who is gone? Hutton who I eat with humility. Crow pie Due to the fact, I downright hated him Zotto and the 2nd piece of pie Stecher. Call me crazy but I think in no order Woo Hughes Rathbone and maybe Brisbois? I truly think Edler stays. Leaving us a logjam at left, and very thin on the right. Especially if they trade Tanev if we fall off a cliff. Sorry completely out of nowhere. Out of nowhere but what crap luck for Demko. I think with Nillson breaking his finger. The fact the Canucks have played 12 road games and 7 home game. Demko would have been the backup without a question Literally the perfect situation. People can dog Marky all they want. On this road trip where he played 5 games and 1 back to back. He got points in 3 games and was on a 3 game streak prior to that. This team IMO is 1a 1b.. Where you ride the hot hand. Especially when so many key defensive players are hurt. Plus we have Sven and Brock missing. Just as they were playing there best hockey of the year. sorry to just change course. I am half awake and apologize for the length 0of this post. Just so much is playing out in front of us and what got this all going for me was people saying here is the typical Canucks. Great start the fall off a cliff. That infuriates me. Despite our injuries that keep piling on to our best players for the position they play. We have still managed to endure the toughest schedule by far in the NHL and that's saying something. Real quick about Marky. I think the games where were seeing 56 goals. Has a lot to do with who is out of the lineup. Not sure John Gibson could do much better lol Props to Miller as well. Why people mock JB for that is beyond me. We had the cap room Plus no #1 at the time. Jacob haters who refuse to see how many games stops he made. Had a good mentor in Ryan. Plus coming to Steches defense beautiful.
-
Don't sleep on Rathbone. Still early but 6 points in 3 games and now paling on the top line with Adam Fox a JR. Who flat out told cAlgareyno. Due to rhe logjam they have. Canes gonna have the same problem. Maybe Rathbone who said he wants to turn pro asap can bring Fox lol, Lots of room for a guy who is a right shot with 8 points in 3 games. Rathbone would have gone quite high if he played in the USHL instead of HS. I remember talk of him being one of the top DA of his draft class. But scouts didn't like the comp he was playing Against. cannon of a shot. Cheers.

Wow, every comment I read of yours is dead on. I wish more fans like you would sign up. When you have double the likes than posts. you know your points are agreed by most people. BTW The Utica fan is mad cuz he has season tix, he knows our best prospects will see a lot of time in Van. He knows with Gags even though it bumps our future guys down. He will get to see a guy prolly tear up the league. Wait till the Comets Leave for the west coast. Closer. Less games=more practice time. He"s really gonna lose it.
