  1. Eliot gets his first pro goal in his third AHL game. Also had 4 SOG and named the third star.
  2. Harvard won 3-0 against Princeton, Rathbone with three assists and 3 SOG, including two beauty stretch passes that set up his team's first two goals: He now has 5pt (2G + 3A) in 2 games.
  3. Such a great ambassador for the Canucks.
  4. Goldobin scores in the Comets’ 4-2 loss. Now up to 11pt (2G + 9A) in 10 games.
  5. Adding their best graduate here: Alex Biega .
  6. Not a lot of talk about Kielly but he seems to be another goalie prospect having a good start. So far played in three of six games for Kalamazoo, had a shaky debut where he stopped 22 of 27 shots. But followed it up with two strong efforts, stopping 42 of 45 in his second start, and 44 of 46 in his third start. Currently sporting a 2.93 GAA and 0.923 SV%.
  7. Good work from two Canucks on this goal:
  8. This debate is way premature. Baertschi was stuck in Chicago overnight because of a flight delay and landed in Anaheim 45 minutes before the morning skate. He participated anyway but was likely exhausted. Then San Jose was the next night. Baertschi hasn't played in the NHL since February and his only experience with the current lineup is from preseason. Green probably wanted to get him into a full practice before throwing him in. Plus, on the personal side, the guy has a new wife and baby. I doubt they moved a six month old across the continent not knowing how long he'll be in Utica. So he probably hasn't seen his son since he was sent down. Now he will. Baertschi has scored over 0.5ppg in each of the past three seasons, while averaging less than 16 minutes a night. That makes him a solid 40 point scorer at the NHL level. Obviously he has struggled with injuries but he's not an AHL player. It would be unreasonable for the Comets to expect him to play there the whole season. Plenty of NHL teams don't waive someone of his caliber to the farm and their prospects do fine. Part of development is dealing with adversity and stepping up when needed. The Canucks just played back-to-back games with 5 defensemen against division rivals. You don't hear anyone complaining. If we want our prospects to be pros, then they need to learn how to win without key players. Not to mention it's only been two games. The Comets had a hot start where they averaged nearly 5 goals per game. They were never going to keep that up and win every singe game for the rest of the season. They're still third in the East, they have a great defense and goaltending tandem, they'll bounce back.
  9. Silovs stops 35 of 38 and both shootout attempts. He's now 3.07 GAA and 0.905 SV% in 9 games -- top 10 in both stats among OHL goalies who have played at least 3 games.
  10. DiPietro made 23/25 stops in last night's loss. Now 1.73 GAA and 0.935 SV% in four starts.
  11. Knowing what we know now about head injuries, the Canucks may just be (rightfully) cautious. We have the forward depth to cover him -- MacEwen and Gaudette could use some time in the bottom six, while Goldobin and Baertschi deserve another shot in the top six. Let him go through the proper protocols, we need him in April more than we need him in November.
  12. I wonder if Canucks give Juolevi a shot if Hughes stays out. Fantenberg/ Sautner are safer choices but what we're really going to miss is Hughes' breakout ability. Those two can't help with that but Juolevi can. He's got his timing and conditioning back in the AHL, and he could be a good fit with Tanev. Or move Benn up and a Stecher - Juolevi bottom pairing could work.
  13. Harvard opens their season today against Dartmouth, and Rathbone strikes early:
  14. And Juolevi is coming back from a major surgery to boot. He was 0.72 ppg as a rookie before the knee injury.
  15. Depending on how long Ferland is out, maybe we call up Baertschi now. He's defensively responsible enough to play on the third line. He could be the playmaker on a Baertschi - Sutter - Leivo line, and provide good secondary scoring. Or maybe Baertschi - Gaudette - Sutter, drop Leivo to play with Beagle and Schaller, and drop Eriksson from the lineup altogether. Since Baertschi already cleared waivers, he could be sent down without going through it again if he plays fewer than 10 games/ 30 days, so if he doesn't play well we could always send him back to Utica and bring up someone else. But if he does prove that he's still an useful NHLer, several teams that need scoring help -- Detroit, Columbus, Ottawa, New Jersey, L.A. -- currently have $5 million or more in cap space. If he shows his injuries are in his past, no reason why he wouldn't be tradeable.
