Keppen scores a goal and had four shots as Flint rout North Bay 6-3. He now has 8 points (3G + 5A) in 10 games this season.

McDonough, who didn't play Northeastern's first three games, made his college debut today on a line with Tyler Madden: Northeastern tied with Holy Cross, 2-2. Madden scored both of Northeastern's goals and was named the game's first star. McDonough was held pointless but had 3 shots. Hopefully he'll stay in the lineup, would be great if he can play with Madden all year.

Harvard won the scrimmage 4-2, Rathbone with 4 points (1G, 3A). He played on the top pairing and was in on every goal, scored a power play marker himself. Harvard will start their season next Friday, also against Dartmouth.

I think with the MHL, there's the Russian factor, particularly if you're not a top prospect. Right or wrong, you have to be exceptional to be drafted out of Russia as a first rounder (not including Russians playing in North America). Teams simply don't use a first round pick on the MHL equivalent of a Barrett Hayton, or a project like Ryan Merkley. For Brink, he's a 5'8" winger who has issues with his skating. DeBrincat had 101pt in 60GP in the OHL in his draft year and went 39th. That may seem low now, but there are ten Jordan Schroeders for every DeBrincat. Take Taylor Cammarata, who played with MacKinnon at Shattuck St. Mary's for bantam and midget. Cammarata had 170pt in 58GP in bantam; MacKinnon had 101pt in 58GP. Cammarata had 139pt in 54GP in midget ; MacKinnon had 93pt in 40GP. He was drafted #1 overall into the USHL when MacKinnon was drafted #1 overall into the Q. He won rookie of the year, then put up 93pts in 59GP in his draft season, identical PPG as Brink. That season, he led the USHL in goals and points and was named Player of the Year. The only issue was he was 5'7" and an average skater -- not bad, but not elite either. Cammarata ended up getting drafted #76 in 2013, when MacKinnon went #1 overall. After four years of college hockey, he's now in his third season in the ECHL. Maybe Brink will turn out to be DeBrincat, but far more of these guys become Cammarata, which is why they tend to drop in the draft, regardless of where they played.

Overage and draft eligibility are two separate things. It doesn't matter if Focht was drafted in 2018, 2019, or not at all. He's not an overager because overager is referring to age. For example: Calen Addision, born in April 2000, currently playing with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Not an overager. Akil Thomas, born in January 2000, currently playing with the Niagara IceDogs. Not an overager. Carson Focht, born in February 2000, currently playing with the Calgary Hitmen. Not an overager. This was Hitmen's initial roster: https://hitmenhockey.com/article/hitmen-announce-2019-whl-pre-season-roster 1999-born (3): Mark Kastelic (F), Dakota Krebs (D), James Malm (F) 2000-born (9): Carson Focht (F), Josh Prokop (F), Carl Stankowski (G), Riley Stotts (F), Layne Toder (D), Andrew Viggars (D), Orca Wiesblatt (F), Jett Woo (D), Egor Zamula (D) Their three overagers are Kastelic (03/1999), Krebs (03/1999) and Malm (06/1999), who are 20 years old and still on the roster. Focht is in the same category as Woo -- he's a 19 year old playing his fourth season in the WHL. There are no allowances for overagers at the WJC. You're simply ineligible if you don't make the age cutoff. If you're saying that Focht was overage for the 2019 draft, as he was passed once over, then yes. He is not an overager in the Dub. Also, the CHL as a whole does not use the Sept. 15 cutoff. Age is determined by birth year, which is why late birthdays like Lind still play in the league at 16. They just play three seasons prior to their first draft, instead of two seasons like most. But the draft status of the prospects has no relations as to whether someone is classified as overage by the league. If Focht is an overager then it'd be impossible for Kastelic or Krebs, who are a whole year older, to still play in the league, considering being overage is the oldest you're allowed to go. And Calgary would have far more than three overagers on roster -- in addition to the 1999 borns, they currently have Prokop (01/2000), Stotts (01/2000), Toder (01/2000) and Stankowski (03/2000), who are all around the same age as Focht. If Focht is an overager then they're carrying at least 8 overagers right now.

If you mean Focht is the same age right now as Lind and Gadj were in their last year in juniors, then yes. He is not the same age as they were in the 2018-2019 season. He's a 2000 birthday and those two are 1998s, so they're two years apart. Focht was passed over once in the draft, so this is essentially his D+2 season. But he's not an overager -- those are 20 year olds, of which a CHL team can only have three. Focht is 19 years old. He's the same age as guys who were drafted in 2018 and playing their last year in the CHL -- such as Ty Dellandrea, Akil Thomas, Serron Noel or our very own Jett Woo. He's the same age as Cody Glass (1999 birth date) was last year when he was finishing his fourth season in the Dub.

The Hitmen lost 6-4 but Focht finished the game with a goal and an assist, 13/25 on faceoffs. Named third star for his efforts. Now has 9pts (4G, 5A) in 5 games, averaging 4 shots per game. Right now he’s putting up production worthy of a second rounder .

New article on Goldobin: Goldobin gets to work with Comets UTICA — Nikolay Goldobin is taking a straightforward approach in joining the Utica Comets. The Russian forward, who turned 24 years old Monday, is back with the American Hockey League team looking to boost his game in an effort to get another opportunity in the NHL. Goldobin spent all of last season with the parent Vancouver Canucks, though due to an excess of wings he was part of the team’s final roster trim ahead of the 2019-20 season. “I just want to gain confidence on this team,” Goldobin said following Comets’ practice Wednesday. “I just want to play with the puck, make some plays and improve my game.” Goldobin — who has split time between the NHL and AHL in his previous four pro seasons in North America — has impressed with his offensive abilities during previous stints with the Comets. That includes Goldobin being on a point-per-game pace during 30 appearances with the Comets two seasons ago. There’s a hope that Goldobin — as well as veteran Sven Baertschi, for however long he also remains with the Comets — can be an added bonus for a team that has a skilled forward and high expectations. On Wednesday, Goldobin was on a line with fellow prospects Zack MacEwen and Lukas Jasek, who is playing center to start the season with the team in need. “The dream is obviously to play in the NHL,” said Goldobin, who signed a one-year, $900,000 deal with Vancouver before training camp. “So, I’ll just work hard and hopefully get a call-up soon.” To get that opportunity, coaches and officials in the organization have stressed Goldobin needs to be better defensively. To build on that, Goldobin was part of the Comets’ penalty kill work Wednesday as the team prepared to play Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this weekend. “When we had him in the past, he was killing penalties for us,” Comets coach Trent Cull said. “It is something we’re looking at. (The approach) is ‘What can we do to expand his role and try to get him some more time at our level?’” Goldobin— who has a laidback demeanor — insists he put in good work during the summer. He is itching to play in the regular season after totaling one assist in four Canucks preseason games. “They want me to be an all-around player,” said Goldobin, one of two players considered veteran exempt (260 to 320 pro games played) under AHL rules which will likely force the Comets to sit at least one veteran (321 games or more) each contest. “I’m just going to play hard.”

Silovs had a shootout loss over the weekend, 22 saves on 24 shots, 0.917 SAV%. Early goings, but he's currently ranked 3rd in the OHL for save percentage (0.933) and 4th for GAA (2.27), among goalies who have played 3 or more games. Considering this is his first time playing on North American ice, good start for the 6th rounder. Can see why Benning signed him early.

Judging by this recent interview, Lind is raring to go: And it seems like he's had a great summer:

He actually reminds me of Hossa -- left shot right winger, good size, powerful skater, relentless in all three zones, nice puck skills and hockey IQ. Hossa was a 60+pt player virtually his entire career... one could only hope.

Interesting that Aquilini characterizes the agreement with Utica as a two year deal... it’s a six year deal with out clauses after years two and four. Seems like he’s looking for options for a move.
