  1. From Princeton hockey head coach Ron Fogarty: https://www.nhl.com/canucks/news/vancouver-canucks-josh-teves/c-305804540 Teves' junior story: https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/patrick-johnston-mechanical-whiz-teves-believes-he-has-tools-for-making-canucks-too
  2. A longer look at Madden's goal on Friday: From his head coach: https://www.flohockey.tv/articles/6397560-northeasterns-cayden-primeau-shuts-down-maines-upset-attempt
  3. Standing up for his teammate on Saturday: Almost had a Gordie Howe hat trick too with two assists. 62GP - 12G - 65pts - 70 PIM - 1.05 PPG on the season, versus 44GP - 9G - 25pts - 33 PIM - 0.57 PPG last year. Kid's a real gem. Yep it was a new change:
  4. Sautner played 18:51 against Dallas, including 1:05 of PK. Brisebois played 13:08. Season high TOI for both guys. They may need to come out for Teves and Hughes soon, but both look to have NHL futures. Not bad for an undrafted free agent and a third round pick.
  5. A two point night in Dallas and he'll be making some history!
  6. Give him a few full practices but maybe we'll see Baertschi to close out the season.
  7. Regardless of how he turns out, always nice to see a guy's dream come true. Canucks will likely have a full practice before the road trip, I think we'll see Teves debut during the back-to-back.
  8. Best case scenario, he plays next Wednesday at home against the Sens. That would give him 9 games the rest of the way, and he could only play 10 anyway without burning his expansion draft exemption. Or maybe Saturday against the Flames if they want to be extra careful or give him practice time. Wouldn't it be something if he makes a statement against the Flames like Pettersson's debut. He'd be on Hockey Night in Canada to boot.
  9. Good to see him out with the guys and progressing in his recovery.
  10. Baffled by the negativity surrounding a free prospect. Has anyone actually watched a Princeton game? Why are we putting a ceiling on a player before he even steps on the ice? Let's look at another undrafted, smooth skating defenseman who had a good, but not spectacular college career: Freshman: 38GP, 3G, 19pts Sophomore: 32GP, 0G, 13pts Junior: 37GP, 6G, 23pts Senior: 43GP, 11G, 45pts Total: 150GP, 100 pts, 0.667 PPG Teves: Freshman: 31GP, 2G, 7pts Sophomore: 34GP, 4G, 25pts Junior: 31GP, 7G, 33pts Senior: 33GP, 3G, 20pts Total: 126GP, 85pts, 0.675 PPG The first guy is Brian Rafalski, who started his first NHL season at 26 years old. He went on to have a Hall of Fame career with more than 800 games, made the All-Stars and the U.S. Olympic team three times, played in five Stanley Cup finals with three rings to show for it. Most guys who make the NHL at 20 years old don't have half the career he did. This applies to all the whining about Juolevi as well, but earlier really doesn't mean better. Yes, Rafalski was 22 when he graduated college and not 24, but Teves is a late bloomer who didn't even play in Junior A until he was 19. He showed an incredible development curve in college and led all NCAA defensemen in PPG as a junior. On top of that, he studied mechanical engineering at Princeton and won the RBC National Junior A Scholarship in 2015, which is given to one player out of all ten Canadian Junior A leagues. The guy's clearly smart, hard working and motivated. The contract is a non-issue, he's going to become an UFA at 27 anyway, so becoming a RFA this summer doesn't shorten his RFA years. His raise this summer will be minimal, for a team currently sitting nearly $9m under the cap. Maybe Benning could've persuaded him to play in Utica this season, or maybe he would've walked away... but why take that chance when the move provides no tangible benefit to the Canucks. Benning is the GM of the Canucks, after all.
  11. Seems like there could be more college FAs coming:
  12. D | 6'0" | 180 lbs Shoots | Left Born | 1995-02-18 Birthplace | Calgary, AB, CAN Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed defenceman Josh Teves to a one-year entry-level contract. "Josh had an outstanding collegiate career at Princeton," said Benning. "He has good vision and playmaking ability and can contribute in all three zones. We're excited to see him play at the professional level." Teves, 24, led all Princeton Tigers defencemen in scoring with 20 points (3-17-20) in 30 games. The 6-0, 180-pound defenceman also ranked third on the team in shots on goal (74) and power-play assists (10). In 2017.18, Teves finished the season with 33 points (7-26-33) in 31 games which led all NCAA blueliners in points per game (1.06) and assists per game (0.79). In four seasons at Princeton (2015-2019), Teves has registered 85 points (16-69-85) in 126 career games. Prior to his collegiate career, the Calgary, Alberta native played one season for the BCHL Merritt Centennials, registering 33 points (5-28-33) in 57 games. College Hockey News reporter who followed Teves since he was a recruit: Last Word on Hockey: From when he was a 2018 camp invite: https://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/better-know-a-2018-canucks-camp-invitee-josh-teves-1.23352116
  13. The trade deadline is over, you can no longer add other team's players onto your roster. That's why the roster limit is lifted, as you can't hoard players like you can earlier in the season. Players that change teams after the TDL will have to wait until next season to play for their new teams.
  14. This is probably the clearest evidence that the threshold for expansion exposure is 11 games and not 1 game. There wouldn't be a way to safeguard against burning a protection slot if the threshold was one game. Either way, everyone can relax, the Canucks are planning to manage Hughes' game count to keep his exemption status.
  15. Would love to see those D pairings stick for a couple games. Either way, sounds like some reinforcements will be heading to Utica soon.
  16. Makar's freshman season as a 19 year old: 34GP, 5G, 21pts, +9, 0.62 PPG. Rathbone's freshman season as a 19 year old: 29GP, 6G, 19pts, +9, 0.66 PPG. If Rathbone plays 34 games like Makar did, he'd be: 7G, 22pts, +11. Makar was picked 4th overall. Rathbone was picked in the 4th round .
  17. Nice work by Lockwood to set up the goal: Now he's off to the playoffs!
  18. Playoff starts for Hughes and Lockwood: If Michigan doesn't make it past Minnesota, Hughes will likely join the Canucks after March 10th and maybe Lockwood goes to Utica on a PTO.
  19. Interview with Dahlen: https://www.fearthefin.com/2019/2/27/18242765/2019-nhl-trade-deadline-jonathan-dahlen-vancouver-canucks-jim-benning-san-jose-sharks-barracuda Now, maybe Dahlen didn't demand a trade, but clearly his camp brought it up: He also pointed out in the interview that he needs to work on his speed and defensive game, so he's aware of his shortcomings. There are two sides to every story, but it seems like Dahlen was unhappy with his treatment and usage in Utica, not the lack of opportunity at the NHL level.
  20. I wouldn't mind if we just rotate Brisebois and Sautner through the rest of the season and sit Pouliot when Edler gets back. They were both on Utica's roster at TDL so they can finish off the season playing big minutes in the AHL.
