Three key pieces does not equate a proper championship caliber core. The past and current management keeps refusing to believe you need a cohesive D corps to compete. Quinn Hughes and Jack Rathebone are what we have in 8-10 years from draft and development on defense. Forsling, Trymkin and the 2nd for Baerchi (Ramus Andersson) could have a better body of work but those were shipped off. while it’s early days and looks like EP:2.0 is going to be a good player for us. But our D prospects have been bare for quite some time and we all know how expensive and reluctant teams are to trading D especially RD. We won’t get our top pair partner for Quinn, a Myers replacement and RD depth through trade or FA because we would have to trade premium assets (which we are short of aside from Bo) and no cap space for FA. I feel insane to keep asking this because it’s something myself and @Warhippy keep mentioning is the embarrassing lack and negligence of the drafting and development on RD. Why isn’t the money going into scouting for this position? Is it as easy to say that they not the sexy pick in the first two rounds but that’s how other teams draft and develop them. We always go BPA even though there is a massive roster misconstruction and in our system. Hell we never even bothered to draft a RD this past draft. So how else are we going to balance this team when we are capped, lacking assets to trade for RD and a shallow prospect pool? Where are these bricks that we are apparently building with? If I was Aqua I’d be hiring the best scouts for finding those RD like Nashville has been like, they are a Defense factory. We see the problems with this team but are gunshy to correct or acknowledge it. Now with the three pieces we have for a core (Bo was one but he’s as good as gone) they very well say “puck it” and ask out. Just look at how our lack of a blue line injured Demko. We need to draft and freaking develop our defence and sadly that takes years. And after trading a RD prospect in Johnathan Myrenberg I doubt this management/ownership has the stomach for 3-4 years before the blueline is properly fixed. Because we sure aren’t able to trade/ free agency our way out of this mess. Gotta have the bricks to build and those bricks come from draft and development. No team is giving us their bricks to build, why not use our own instead of trading our bricks for straw??? -

All of this Blunt. God forbid to have a contrarian thought or opinion that goes against the grain. You can only be a fan if you agree with EVERYTHING it does. Some folk on here will gatekeep and guilt that right out of you, call you a toxic fan if you don’t step in line. As the great one once said, “That’s a crock of crap” We are all fans here and using whatever free time we have to follow and discuss this team, we all have the same dream of one day watching it hoist that elusive silver mug. Just others feel that their loyalty/fandom is greater than ours. -

I know my rep isn’t answering my calls on when the next summer summit is (god I miss those days when TL helped with answering questions to the fans) I’m not holding my breath and they probably were told not to respond to STH’s who have said they aren’t reupping after this season. They are looking for fresh suckers who don’t know the good ol “rebuild on the fly” trick and pony show. Holding these summits would have to include accountability, when was the last time we this franchise held accountability to its fans? Last year when we had all those changes to the FO and had Steamer be used as a figurehead just as Linden was. Seems like a theme to cover the shenanigans from the one common denominator in the shadows. -

This quote is basically what our whole plan is from that article. I challenge anyone to convince me otherwise that management/ownership have a bolder more concrete and decisive plan. “Once you’re in the playoffs, anything can happen. Certain players can get really hot and make a difference and you just never know” imagine that we have lived and wasted almost ten years of our lives by “just get in and anything can happen, you just never know” essentially, we have ambitions to be the 2021 Montreal Canadians Cinderella team. Not to win it but be in it. It’s just depressing at this point. -

“We have a plan we are continuing to build brick by brick”-Patrik Allvin Ok Allvin building what exactly and what bricks are you using? I prefer building from 1st round and 2nd round picks but I understand that’s just not in this franchises budget or plan but where are we going and what are we f**king doing? Seriously?! Let me put more of that money into that fire cuz baby it’s cold outside and let’s just keep mindlessly throwing our disposable income at this mess as they are continuing to build brick by brick. SOLID! -
And then trying to get home in a $€!+ blizzard. Today on the knight street bridge was an ice rink. Tonight will be a good night to stay inside. Sold my tickets, just not worth it if they give fans trust issues on what kind of effort they put out on the ice. Those that are going drive/commute safely.
-
It’s a slap to the ticket holders and fans who help this franchise be a cap spending team. Not a professional way of saying thank you to your fans then to lay a stinker on the ice regularly. Spot on it’s irritating, I’d rather fund a hungry family or child foundation then to pay for this so called entertainment. But fear not, we are continually building brick by brick boys!

If I was Petey I would be sick of this shit too. Only so much you can do when you are only one out of a handful of players that give a damn in this bleak no plan, plan direction. Hope Petey has a good Christmas and the boys will be getting coal tonight for their poor efforts in front of the home faithful. I sold my tickets, would rather be safe and warm at home then risk commuting to the Roj for a half assed effort. Nope fill your stockings with that fruit cake!

I had no idea we had both Schenn bros. I don’t think that trade will work without including Bo -

This is exactly it. Putting the captain on the back burner and using all the cap on Miller and FA before getting back to the guy who bled team colours for almost a decade. You nailed it Blunt. -

Fair enough. You do you and enjoy this ridiculous way of running a hockey club. Because it’s been this way since he lost faith in MG in 2013. You are entitled to your opinion Stawns and I have mine. Agree to disagree -

Yup and that’s why I gladly filled out the customer satisfaction survey that the team sent to season ticket holders and wrote a very long and truthful explanation why I will not be reupping my tickets and that they should expect many others to voice the same. Congratulations Francisco, your team mandate, vision has made a toxic relationship with the fanbase and this team. Apathy is here to stay until we get what we want, what we deserve. A proper plan and constructed team! -

It’s really sad and tragic all that good will and hope from a year ago has been dashed with haunting memories of the previous short sighted moves from Benning/Aquilini’s “vision” it’s more of the same. We had a opportunity to turn the page and make culture changes like trading Miller last TDL or summer. Now we are losing the captain and stoic home grown Canuck over a guy who had a good year and doesn’t conduct himself as a mature leader. This is on JR/PA and once again Aquilini for not making the tough choices because now it’s come home to roost. The bright spot in all this is, it’ll force the team to rebuild as we don’t have much of a choice. We might lose the core that Benning built but it was never a finished product or good enough to win. So this is on Bennings cap short sighted plan, Aquilini’s impatience to build a proper deep team and the current managements decision (could be once again FA’s mandate) to double down on Bennings roster. And that’s why we are where we are. No long term plan, vision and a very apathetic fanbase. Take a bow, YOU DONE f**kED IT UP -
But he never does Alf. You, myself and many others keep mentioning that this organization needs to pivot philosophies and embrace a rebuild because this team isn’t good enough to contend, isn’t good enough to make the playoffs. But we sound like big time whiners by continuing to mention the obvious. When he finally comes out and says so (because if he wants fans to be engaged he’s going to need to) then the fans can get on board with it. Right now nobody knows what the hell we are trying to do and accomplish other than mediocre middling team for the last decade.
-
But what if it’s not the management that needs to be replaced but the guy who owns the team? It’s no coincidence that new management comes in and has made the same moves as the last one. It’s rather the teams philosophy/mandate then the management. Why JR came out of retirement to be told what to do doesn’t make sense to me either but neither does what this management has said (improve the defense, get younger and don’t trade picks) and what this management has done (trade a 2nd and a 5th while not fixing the D at all other than bringing Bear and Stillman in). I agree if things don’t change direction and we keep trying the same thing here, I might need to go off and do something to invest in my money and time to save my sanity. Things have to change or fans will be disengaged and not believe what this brass has to say.
