[Rumour] Time's up! Finish your last sentence...
Elias Pettersson replied to AngryElf's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Stop teasing you little computer. We know you know the thing.... -
He said we are worse NOW with the trade. In the immediate term. He was trying to justify that the trade sucks long term, which is fine you can make that argument. But then he went one step further and said we are even worse in the short term. The funniest part is that Donnie was also ripping the trade, but then admitted that alot of the fans emailing in are actually on board with the trade...

This is false. We traded our leading scorer, our #1 goalie was injured for 3 months, we shut down Mikheyev. We have like 4 AHL defencemen in the lineup right now plus some AHL forwards. And we are still able to win games. Why? Because of Petey and Hughes. Prime example is Beau. He is doing just as well as BO because he is playing with Petey. So, trading BO didn't actually make us worse because the new Beau is doing just as well. Unless you take Petey and Hughes out of the lineup we will always have a chance to win games...

Demko was out for 3 months and we still won games without him. Now people are upset that he is back and is screwing the tank. We are also winning games without BO and we won against Dallas without Miller. The only way we could ever be the worst team in the league is to trade Petey, Hughes and Demko. When you have 3 star players in your lineup you will always be able to win games...

These are the RHD available in free agency on July 1. Tell me who is better than Hronek on this list? How were we supposed to fix the defence when only these guys were available for free? The only way to acquire a top 4 RHD was via a trade. Which is what we did. Unless you wanted to use the pick on Reinbacher and wait 5 years to see if he develops... 1. Top 4 RHD's are rarely available. And if they are you either have to overpay in a trade or in free agency. There is literally no one on the market right now that is available for trade, unless you want to trade for Erik Karlsson. Severson is the only top guy available in free agency. The Canucks obviously called around and found out that Hronek was available for the right price. So they went all in and got him.
-
There is another Connor available in 4 months. In order to get him however, you have to be really bad. The only way for us to be really bad is to trade Petey, Hughes and Demko. We can't be the worst team in the league with those 3 in the lineup. People are upset that we can't properly tank, but don't seem to understand that it's not possible unless you take those 3 out of the lineup. When Edmonton got McDavid, they didn't already have a superstar or two in their lineup. That is how they were able to properly tank. And they needed several cracks at it before they ended up with McDavid. They had to draft Yakupov and RNH before they could draft McDavid.
-
Late first round picks aren't going to help you that much unless you have alot of them. The only way to get another Petey and Hughes is to tank and collect top 5 picks. You need at least two of them. We wouldn't be able to tank properly with Petey, Hughes and Demko in the lineup. This is what you are not understanding. The team needs to be really bad for 2-3 years to properly tank. And then you need the luck of the lottery and the draft to get those star players. The Rangers got the 1st and 2nd overall picks and those 2 players are 3rd liners. Edmonton drafted guys at #1 overall that are no longer in the league. It's real easy for fans to say, hey let's just tank and rebuild, but it's alot harder to actually properly execute it. And if it doesn't work out then you are screwed for a decade...

I'm assuming this trade happened because Hall is on LTIR? I was wondering how they got the cap space to do it. Boston even has more room now to add another player. I guess Hall is on LTIR until the playoffs, which is a joke. I'm sure he will be fully healthy before that. Kucherov 2.0 all over again. This league is a joke...

2 1sts, Raty, Lundkvist and Chytil is not enough to do a proper rebuild. What other players are we selling? Boeser, Garland, Myers, Beauvillier? You aren't even getting 1st round pick for those guys. You are getting scraps. The only other player we could have gotten a 1st for was Kuzmenko as well. So, you have to add him to the other 3 players. You can't properly rebuild this team unless you trade Petey, Hughes, Demko and Kuzmenko. They would give us all the draft capital and prospects needed for a full rebuild.
-
We don't have enough assets to properly rebuild without trading Petey, Hughes and Demko. Those 3 players would give us all the draft capital we need to properly rebuild this team. If we keep them all then we are trading guys like Boeser and Garland for scraps. We got a 1st and prospect for BO, maybe we get the same for Miller, but that would certainly never be enough to do a full rebuild.
-
This is the confusing part for some. We didn't trade away our 1st round pick. We traded a 1st that was acquired in the Horvat trade. We were never going to keep that 1st, it was always going to be flipped for a RHD. The fact that the pick was acquired first is the confusing part for some, who think that JR was now in a rebuilding mode. He never was. It was always going to be a retool...
-
Quick was traded and Doughty has an anchor contract that can't be traded. Kopitar only has a couple years left. That's alot different than Vancouver's situation with 3 star players all in their prime years. You don't rebuild when your star players are just entering their prime years. You rebuild when your star players are all past their prime years and are ageing out. Which is exactly what LA is doing...

[Signing] Bruins re-sign David Pastrnak
Elias Pettersson replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Why would people think Petey will get less than Pasta? If Petey was a UFA he easily gets $12 million a year. He's head to head in points this year with Pasta and he's also a centre who, according to some reports, is in the top 4 voting for the Selke right now. The Pasta contract is Petey's floor. He won't get any less than that. Maybe he does $11 million. I wouldn't be surprised if Petey gets $12 million... -

Yes, Horvat, Boeser, Garland. I even said the NYI pick would be in play. I never said Miller would be traded... -
He gave the trade an A+. His logic is pretty good as well. Some people are trying to look at this trade in one part. However, it was really a two-part trade. The Canucks couldn't trade Horvat straight up for a top 4 RHD, or at least one that they wanted. So, they went out and got the best trade they could for Horvat, which involved mostly futures. However, the objective was always to get that RHD. So, they flipped some of the assets they got from the Horvat deal to get the RHD that they coveted. Horvat and a 2nd for Hronek, Beauvillier, Raty and a 4th is a home run trade. An A+. Only the ones who want a full rebuild don't see it that way. JR was never going to rebuild. it was always going to be a retool. The Horvat trade fooled alot of people into thinking JR was gonna rebuild, which is unfortunate. The cat is out of the bag now. Looking forward to all of the next moves now...

When this is all said and done you will all be happy. Trust me. This had to happen to save this franchise. I'm already pumped for next season, we will have lots to cheer about...
