(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
Elias Pettersson replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So, we were able to beat Dallas even without Miller. I guess trading him won't help the tank much. So much for that idea... -

Sure, I get that. So, what do you propose that they do to ensure that they lose the games? Because the players don't play to lose, so you can't tell them to do that. It needs to be forced on the team. How do you do that with this current team? -

In order for the team to get the best pick, they need to lose the games. If you are watching the game and seeing how hard the players are playing, then what are you actually doing during that time? Are you hoping they play well enough to win, but the other team just happens to score one more goal? I honestly am just asking the question and again, not questioning anyone's loyalty to the team. When you say I am cheering for the team to win and get the worst pick, that is not true. I am cheering for the team to win because that is what the players want. They want to win. So, I am on the side of the players for the game that they are entertaining me with. If the team wants to truly tank, then they need to make the moves that will allow them to lose the games, meaning they need to sit out or trade the star players. Some people are saying that Demko shouldn't be playing right now. So, if he is healthy enough to play how do you not play him? Do you trade him for picks to have a better chance at Bedard? I'm just curious as to how they are supposed to be handling Demko right now. What do I really want for this team? I want it to win the Stanley Cup. If the team wants a great shot at Bedard, then they need to do more than just hope the team plays well enough to lose by one goal. Reason why is the players are gonna bust their arse to win the game. Which is exactly what happened tonight. If they don't play Demko then they probably lose. So, they need to figure out how to handle the Demko situation moving forward. And they have to have a discussion with Tocchet and tell him not to play Hughes 30 minutes a night and put Kuzy on in the last minute of the game. These are the things that are preventing us from losing and tanking. My question to you is this? What are the Canucks supposed to do right now in order to ensure they lose the game? Because they need to lose the game in order to have a better draft position. What do you propose they do right now in order to ensure those losses? -

Raty, Silovs, Klimovich, Jurmo. Jurmo is 4 only because he is not here yet. If he lights it up in Abby next year, he may jump to #1...

Cheers to you too, my friend. There has been alot of back and forth on these boards. This is what happens when the team sucks. It's never a pleasant situation, that is for sure. I have seen the ups and downs of this team for a long time. There is no one more than me that wants this team to win a Stanley Cup. I am sure you are the same as you have been on this forum a long time. I get the whole tank thing. I've even posted pictures of Bedard in game day threads. I understand it all, trust me. If ever there was a time to tank, it is this year. The prize is Connor Bedard, who could be another Connor McDavid. The thing with me though is I just cannot watch this team and cheer for it to lose. I just can't do it. I see Petey blocking 6 shots tonight and risking injury to win. I see Kuzmenko with that fire in his eyes to try and score and win the game. How can I justify wanting this team to lose when I see that happening on the ice? That's why I say if you are cheering for the team to lose, which I totally understand from the tanking point of view, then it may be best just to not watch the games. Then, you don't have to put yourself in a position where you are watching Petey risk injury to block a shot, but at the same time not wanting him to score a goal. Or put yourself in a position where you are watching Kuzmenko jump up and down after scoring the winning goal and being upset about it, because you wanted the team to lose. That is really what my whole point was about. It wasn't about questioning other people's loyalty to the team or who is the better fan. Does that make sense now? Anyways, gonna wrap this up now. Cheers to you and here is hoping that we somehow win the lottery even though we don't finish at the bottom of the standings. I truly believe if the Hockey Gods want us to have Bedard, we will win the lottery regardless of what position we finish in... -

Yes, I do. I've been a fan for a long time. 1980's for me. You just don't get what I am saying. If you re read some of my other posts you may understand my position better and not try to compare me to an anti vaxxer... -

They traded BO for futures mostly. If they wanted to compete for the playoffs or be a better team, they would have kept him for sure. They shut down Mikheyev only after they realized that they weren't gonna make the playoffs. He wanted to play up until that point. It didn't make sense for him to continue playing, better to have the surgery now to be ready for next season. They held out Demko for as long as possible because they weren't in a rush to get him back. They were out of the playoffs, so it didn't matter anymore. So, no I am not suggesting that the Canucks purposely made those moves to tank, although I have seen that brought up here. My post didn't mean to infer all of that even though it may have sounded that way... -

I never said you were any less of a fan than me or anyone else. I also never questioned your loyalty to the team, you are the one that brought that up. I only questioned why someone would watch a Canucks game for 3 hours if they wanted the team to lose. I said that you could probably find something better to do and just check the box score. So, let's get all of that straightened out up front here before someone else wants to accuse me of questioning their loyalty to the team. I get why people want the team to lose and to tank. It's so we can have a shot at Bedard or one of the other top players. I would love to draft Bedard. I am not stupid to think that he wouldn't turn this franchise around. Or Fantilli or Carlsson. I get all that. I don't want us to be a middle-placed team either. I want us to win the Stanley Cup. We are on the same page here. My only point is I could never ever watch an entire Canucks game and want them to lose. If they lose, then so be it. But I certainly wouldn't be posting on CDC during the game and being upset that Kuzmenko scored the winning goal or that Tocchet is an idiot for playing Quinn too many minutes, etc, etc. That's just not my thing. But hey, if it's someone else's thing, good for them. It doesn't mean they are not loyal to the team. It's just weird for me to envision myself watching a game and wanting the team to lose. If I wanted them to lose, I honestly wouldn't bother to watch the game. That was my original point really... -

Good points. I agree 100%. At the end of the day, the team has done several things to not be that good. They held out Demko for almost 3 months, they traded BO (I guess that backfired on them because Beau is doing just as well), they shut down Mikheyev. They played their AHL goalie for 3 games. They have several of their AHL players in the lineup today. Miller is out now so he didn't even play tonight. So, not sure what the tankers want. Do they want Tocchet to not play Hughes and Petey? Sit them on the bench? At the end of the day, the players want to play, and they want to win. So do the coaches. Unfortunately, if you actually want the Canucks to lose then you do have to be happy if Petey misses the net, or if Beau is offside you are happy. This is because the other team needs to win. How can you be happy for Kuzy to score that winning goal if you want the team to lose? -

That's a pretty funny statement actually. I had to laugh out loud. Showing loyalty to the team by wanting them to lose. So, you want the team and players to thrive and succeed, but at the same time as long as the other team scores one more goal, you are happy. Got it. Let me break the news to you. The players are playing to win the game, and so are the coaches. So, you are not on the same page as them. Kuzmenko was jumping up and down when he scored, I am sure you were not. That's the difference. -

I agree 100%. I did the same thing when Kuzy scored. If I didn’t want the team to win for tank reasons I simply wouldn’t watch the game. I mean, are some people actually watching the full 3 hours, plus posting on CDC, and wanting the other team to win? Seems you could probably find better things to do with your time. I’m watching more to see the young kids and how they play. And also watching Petey’s progression as a player. If they lose, they lose. But I am definitely not jumping up and down if the other team scores. If you are on team tank, I have no problem with that. I understand the reasons why. I just don’t understand why you would want to actually spend 3 hours watching the game and wanting the Canucks to lose. -

4 AHL Dmen. A few AHL forwards too. Demko didn’t really stand on his head either. He let in 4 goals. And we still won. Only way we are going to tank properly is to sit Petey, Hughes and Kuzmenko. That’s never gonna happen so people need to realize we aren’t getting a top 4 pick unless we win the lottery. -

If we can find Hughes a partner like a younger version of Tanev, I think he has a legit shot at the Norris trophy. Similar to when Makar got Toews… -

The tankers need to stop watching the games. Seems weird they would waste 3 hours of their time watching a game they want the Canucks to lose. All they would need to do is look at the boxscore to see who won and lost. Sometimes I just have to shake my head at some people.- 517 replies

We can easily find a veteran goalie in free agency to be Demko’s backup for a year or two. Why do you think we need 2-3 more forwards? We have an excess of forwards if anything plus some good young forwards on the way up. Plus most likely we get a good forward with our 2023 1st. 3-4 Dmen yes. I am 90% certain OEL will get bought out in the summer. Myers will also be traded. Stillman is gone. Burroughs will also be gone. Schenn will probably come back to play on the 3rd pairing. With the cap savings of $13 million from an OEL buyout and Myers trade we can easily get 2 quality Dmen in free agency. I would go hard after Ryan Graves. I’m hoping we can get a Dman in a trade for Schenn as well and maybe even Boeser. We will see. I also see JR/PA dangling that NYI 1st and maybe Höglander to try and get a Dman as well.

Our forward group is almost complete. If we get another centre in this year’s draft it’s a bonus. With Demko and Silovs we don’t need to worry about goaltending either. We have the high end Dman in Hughes which is the hardest type of D to get. Some good young D on the way as well. I would say we need 3-4 quality Dmen and we are pretty much a playoff team. Can probably get 2-3 of them this summer. By 2024 we should easily be competing for the playoffs.

Miller slows the play down, so it only looks like he is slower. The guys tonight aren’t doing that. They are just going hard to the net. Miller plays a more tactical game and tries to find the open man and set up the play. Like I said, they are playing differently without Miller in the lineup tonight.

Kravtsov is 6’3”. If he can get to 210-215 pounds then he could be a beast as well. Hopefully they can both motivate each other in the summer to get bigger and better. And have some fun with Kuzy too. Tryamkin probably comes to Vancouver to be honest. Remember, Gonchar was an assistant coach for the Russian national team. He is a God there. He may be the most influential Russian of them all in Vancouver. Tryamkin would fit nicely on the 3d pairing.
