Petey is the 2nd best player of the 2017 draft. He may even turn out to be the best. So it really doesn’t matter that we picked him at 5. I mean if we had drafted Hischier #1 overall would that have increased our chances of winning a cup because we technically drafted a top 3 player? Also, we drafted TWO players in the top 3 the last time we had a cup contender and still couldn’t win the cup. So it didn’t matter back then.

I don’t believe you have as you are a lot younger than me, but I watched Gretzky and Lemieux when I was a kid. Gretzky is my favourite player of all time. I can tell you with absolute certainty that Gretzky is the most talented player to ever lace them up. Nobody was even close to him in his prime. We are talking winning the scoring title by like 75 points. McDavid will never come close to that. When we had our hockey pools, we had to separate Gretzky’s goals and assists. It wouldn’t have been fair otherwise. I won a hockey pool one year picking only Gretzky’s assists. I believe his assists alone would have won the scoring title at least 3 times. It was batsh*t crazy. Gretzky was a God back then. Canada was in mourning when he was traded. I had to miss school that day, I was so depressed. I still remember the first game when Gretzky came back and played in Edmonton. It was goosebumps. The crowd in Edmonton were on their feet cheering the guy wearing 99 for Los Angeles. It was surreal. I’ll never forget that moment.

I agree. McDavid is the most talented player since Gretzky and Lemieux. But even those guys couldn’t do it forever. There will always be another guy coming. I can see McDavid challenging Gretzky’s record of 11 Art Ross trophies. He has 6 more to go after this year. Will he win another 6 in a row? I have a feeling he won’t, but time will tell…

Hank won the Art Ross at age 29. Petey still has a few years. Are you thinking that McDavid will continue to win the Art Ross for the rest of his career? Not even Gretzky was able to do that. Everyone slows down after awhile or gets injured. Heck, Bedard might be the one who wins the Art Ross next. We shall see…

I would argue Petey is franchise changing as well. The only centre in the NHL who is a level above him right now is McDavid. We can win the Stanley Cup with Petey and the next Brayden Point. Tampa did it. We need to focus on the defence. We aren’t gonna win any cup with the AHL defence that we currently have.

The Legion of Doom played together for like 2 years. It’s not like they were together for 10 years like Sakic and Forsberg. That line fizzled out once Lindros got his first concussion and they traded Renberg. The entire time Lindros was in Philly they tried to surround him with talent. They were basically a one line team for most of his career. Meanwhile Forsberg played on the best team in hockey surrounded by the most talented players in the NHL. I would even argue that if Lindros had signed with Quebec he would have been the 1C not Sakic, considering he was a generational talent and wanted by every team in the league. Same as Connor McDavid and Connor Bedard. I highly doubt Bedard is the 2C if the Canucks win the lottery and he plays with Petey. Anyways, this is a good debate that belongs in another thread. To be totally honest with you, Foppa is one of my all time favourite players. Back to the Miller discussion… -

Both are great players. I'd take either one to start a franchise. But even the Swedish poster is saying that Lindros was better... Also, if Lindros actually signed with Quebec and played with Sakic and Colorado he probably gets 150-160 points and wins multiple Hart trophies...
