(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller

74 pages of pure speculation and a big nothing burger. It will probably hit 200 pages before July 1. -

Waddell’s way of doing business hasn’t worked for him so far and it may never work. Rutherford had been able to win some cups with his way of doing business. You need vets to win a cup. You can’t win a cup with a bunch of 25 year old players. If Waddell doesn’t want to re-sign 29 year old players to long term deals then I guess Jacob Slavin and Brett Pesce will be traded soon. I wonder how Carolina are going to remake their defence after losing two top 4 Dmen? -
(Speculation) Erik Karlsson watch
Elias Pettersson replied to MaxVerstappen33's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Lots of players seem to be having "career years" this year. Seems like the excess in scoring is contributing to that. I guess we will find out over the next 2-3 years if these numbers are sustainable for these players. I'm interested to see what Horvat does next year as one example... -

He's fully heatlhy right now and playing at a time where it's alot easier to score points. Crosby is on pace for 100 points. He's had a ton of injuries as well. If you are an elite athlete then this is the perfect time for you to be in the game. I can see Crosby and Ovechkin playing until they are 40. Karlsson has at least 2-3 elite years left in him... -

The game has changed and points are alot easier to get now than they were 6-7 years ago. 100 points is the new 85 points. Sidney Crosby is 3 years older than Karlsson and is on pace for 100 points. He only had 84 points 7 years ago. So, obviously it is alot easier to score these days. Nick Lidstrom won his first Norris trophy at age 31. He won 7 by the time he retired. Karlsson has been an elite defenceman his entire career. He's only 32. He can play at this elite level for several more years. If he goes to Edmonton he is guaranteed to get 100 points for the next 4 years. -

Not sure you can classify a former two-time Norris trophy winner as having a career year at 32. He was already the best defenceman in the NHL for several years before this year. His injury robbed him of winning probably another 1-2 Norris trophies. If he's playing with McDavid and Draisatl he's probably getting 100 points for the next 4 years... -

I'm old enough to remember when CDC was totally fine with giving BO an 8x8 contract extension. As long as it was BO and not Miller they were happy... -

Wasn't Jim Rutherford in charge the last time, and the only time, Carolina won a cup? How many cups has Waddell won using his philosophy? -
[Proposal] Erik Karlsson to Edmonton
Elias Pettersson replied to DownUndaCanuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
In my proposal, Edmonton is getting a 100 point defenceman and maybe the 2023 Norris trophy winner at only $5.75 million for 4 more years. That’s incredible value. I would say their cup window is another 3-4 years. After that, the dynamic duo may not be together again. Similar to Gretzky’s Oilers. So to pay two 1sts plus your best prospect is probably worth it for Edmonton to try and win a cup or two with McDavid. This trade would be similar to Lemiux’s Pittsburgh team when they traded for Paul Coffey. They even had to add Ron Francis before they won those back to back cups. -
[Proposal] Erik Karlsson to Edmonton
Elias Pettersson replied to DownUndaCanuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
San Jose has to retain the entire 50% retention available, $5.75 million, in order for this trade to work. If that is the case, they need to acquire multiple 1st round picks and the Oilers best prospect. To Edmonton: Erik Karlsson ($5.75 million retained) Scott Harrington Nick Bonino Evgeny Svechnikov Markus Nutivaara (LTIR) To San Jose: Jesse Puljujarvi Tyson Barrie Warren Foegele Philip Broberg 2023 1st round pick 2024 1st round pick Edmonton gets Karlsson plus 3 other players to make the cap work and add 3 more bodies to the lineup to get to 22 roster players. They can also add Yamamoto back into the lineup. They also take on Nutivaara's LTIR to make the cap work for San Jose. Edmonton is already in LTIR so Nutivaara's salary is buried in LTIR money. San Jose gets 3 players to make the cap work, gets Edmonton's top prospect in Broberg and well as 2 1st round picks. San Jose retains $5.75 million for 4 years, so they need the multiple 1st round picks to make this work. They are in a full rebuild, so the 4 years corresponds with Martin Jones buyout and also the fact they won't be competitive for at least 4 years. They also trade Timo Meier for multiple 1st round picks or prospects to go into full rebuild mode... -

So we are now in 5th spot in the lottery. Good enough to draft a centre who is a local boy. Zach Benson is averaging 1.70 PPG. He is Connor Bedard light. He is even a better skater than Connor Bedard. I would have no problem in drafting Zach Benson and having him as our long term 2C behind Petey... Zach Benson 2023 NHL Draft Scouting Report - LWOH (lastwordonsports.com) Zach Benson’s Potential Watching Zach Benson play, he has an eerie resemblance to a top player at the NHL level. Before the comparison, let’s clarify that this does not mean he will be as good or better than this player. It means he has a very similar style to this player. It comes down to his offensive abilities, where he plays smart more than anything, but can also turn up the dials to make magic happen. His transitional play is fantastic and is also comparable to this NHL comp. Meanwhile, his defensive play may not be a big part of his game at a higher level, but he won’t be a liability there either, barring something unforeseen. The NHL comparison this writer has for Zach Benson is Brayden Point of the Lightning. They have very similar skating tendencies and styles. When carrying the puck up ice to transition, they look identical. Point has more skill in terms of stickhandling, and as of right now is a better skater, but Benson attacks through the neutral zone very similarly. Offensively and defensively, neither turns the puck over much and both are mostly smart. But both can turn up the heat and pressure the opposition. Ultimately, Benson has the potential to become an elite NHL player down the line, but his well-balanced play makes him a safer bet than most.

We had a .912 SV% last year and we missed the playoffs scoring 3 goals per game on average. We were 7th in the league last year in SV%. Colorado also had a .912 SV% last year and they won the cup. So having a .912 SV% should not only get you into the playoffs but it should allow you to also be a cup contender. Instead, we missed the playoffs. This year we are at .870 SV% and scoring 3.31 goals per game. So, we are up less than half a goal per game this year. Even if we had last year's goaltending at .912 I still don't think we are even a playoff team right now, or at the very best case scenario we are on the bubble...

33-22-7. If you can’t get into the playoffs when your #1 goalie is standing on his head and winning games all by himself then it’s time to fix the defensive structure of the team and get some new defencemen. Our goalies have been crap this year, but if we have to rely on Demko to be a Vezina trophy candidate just to be a bubble playoff team then that’s not really a recipe for long term success.

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
Elias Pettersson replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They could have easily brought back Motte if they wanted to. He was available for cheap all summer long. He wanted more than what he actually got. They went in another direction. Joshua and Lazar have been fine this year. They are the least of our problems... -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
Elias Pettersson replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Agreed Spook. We are a lottery team right now, so there is no excuse to not try and go out and get as many assets as possible, especially from pending UFA's. The whole problem under Benning was throwing away all of those draft picks for players that didn't pan out. JR did the same thing with Dermott and threw away a 2nd to get rid of Dickinson. Now that the team is basically tanking, I think they have changed their tune and are now in asset collection mode.
