"Fight breaks out at Canucks practice" is the headline... Brendan Batchelor tweets: "Quinn Hughes and Dakota Joshua got into a spirited shoving match during a battle drill. Conor Garland got involved too"... When I was in school a fight meant that fists were swinging, and guys were getting knocked out. Oh, how times have changed...

I'm pretty sure that Drance and Paterson have accounts on CDC...

Nah, they are going with Mahomes. They are already comparing him to Manning, Montana and Brady. It's gonna be 10 years of pumping Mahomes's tires...

I think they know exactly what they are doing but they don't really need to give you or I or anyone else a play by play of what their real plans are as that would tip off the rest of the league as to what is really going on here. My astute observation over the past year is that JR likes to talk, but he also likes to deceive. He hired Allvin who is really good at talking alot and saying nothing. Unlike Jim Benning, they try and keep things under wraps until it happens. The Horvat trade is a key example. The one time the media found out about their plans in advance it backfired on them spectacularly, which was the Boudreau firing. I don't think they are going to make that mistake again, and JR has promised to keep his mouth shut and let Allvin do the talking, which we know leads to him not saying anything...

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
Elias Pettersson replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I agree. I would have Schenn on the 3rd pairing and sign Livingstone to be the 7/8 guy for next year. I would try and trade Bear for a pick. If not, I would let him walk. Same with Dermott. These guys are all 3rd pairing Dmen which we can get at any time. Burroughs is a UFA so he'd be gone as well. I would go hard after Adam Boqvist. He could be our 2nd unit PP guy and eat minutes in the top 4 as well. He could be part of the young core. We would still need a top 4 Dman to play with Hughes. Not sure who that could be. -
We scored 6 goals against the Islanders. Also, Kuzmenko has been basically shut down in order to showcase Boeser, BO is gone and Mikheyev also shut down. So, you knew the goals were going to decrease under Tocchet, at least for this season. As for the defensive play, it's going to take awhile to break old habits. Nothing significant will happen until next season IMO. Right now, we are just riding out the tank and evaluating who stays and who goes...

[Proposal] Rebuild the defence
Elias Pettersson replied to DownUndaCanuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I agree with most of that. In terms of buying out OEL, I think at this point it's probably around 80% that they do it this summer. Reason why is the cap savings is huge for next year, just over $7 million. With that money freed up we can replace him with a legit top 4 Dman. Buying out OEL is going to happen at some point, there is zero chance that JR/PA don't buy out OEL while they are here as well as Tocchet. If OEL isn't bought out that means we are in a full rebuild and JR/PA/RT are all gone and probably Petey and Huggy too. Buying him out in 2024 doesn't make sense because you lose the ability to get that $7 million freed up this summer. Next summer the buyout starts at $2.1 million. In terms of replacements, I think Ryan Graves would be at the top of my list. New Jersey has all their young guys coming into the lineup at some point, so I don't see them committing to Graves long term. I'd do a 5x5 contract for him no problem. I'd also look at Adam Boqvist from Columbus. Jiricek will make the big club next year so there may be no room for Boqvist on the right side. I proposed a Boeser and Hoglander trade to Columbus for Boqvist and Kuraly. If we could offload Myers to Toronto with minimal retention that would be like winning the lottery. Finding another top 4 Dman may be the hardest thing to do out of everything however. If we do buy out OEL, I can see us trading the NYI pick plus another prospect for a top 4 RHD. Livingstone is someone we need to go hard after in the summer as well. I'd also take a flyer on Tryamkin. I think if he works with Gonchar he could turn into a useful 5/6 Dman. Hughes ?? Graves Boqvist Tryamkin Schenn Stillman Livingstone I'd be comfortable going into next season with that lineup. If we can land a true partner for Hughes with that Islanders pick then that would complete the defence. I would let Dermott and Burroughs walk and see if we could get a pick back for Bear. With Boqvist in the lineup Bear is redundant.
