To Minnesota: Brock Boeser Nils Höglander To Vancouver: Jordan Greenway Jesper Wallstedt Brock gets to go back to Minnesota and the Wild get the scorer they need. They also get a very good prospect in Höglander who doesn't seem to be a fit in Vancouver and is not waiver eligible next year so we either need to play him or trade him. The Canucks get a big power forward who can play up and down the lineup and would be able to play Rick Tocchet hockey. He is not having a good year at all so his trade value is low. We also get our future #1 Swedish goalie in Wallstedt. Makes up for the mistake of letting Markstrom go. Wallstedt IMO was the top goalie prospect in 2021 and is having a great year in the AHL. I think he will be a true #1 goalie in the NHL. We shed almost $4 million in salary as well for next year... Who says no?

I actually think it is a realistic trade for Toronto and Arizona would take it. Toronto only has one more year of Matthews before he might leave, and two more years of Tavares and Marner. If they don't win a cup or even a playoff round I think all of those guys are gone, so trading for Chychrun and going all in for the next 2 years makes sense. Maybe Matthews sticks around if they trade for Chychrun. I think the trade happens tomorrow, so we will see what happens.

Interesting that Miller was flying today, which means he is in shape. Petey as well. Guys I noticed that are either slow, can't skate or out of shape are Boeser, Dries, Joshua, OEL, Stillman, Burroughs, Schenn. Kuzmenko isn't that fast either but he doesn't look out of shape. Rest of the guys look speedy. Miller had a strong game. He's not the fastest skater either but you can tell he was busting his butt. Di Giuseppe impressed me. It must be all the pizza and pasta he eats before the game that gives him the energy...

Wow, he's back already? He must have not gotten a concussion then. Tough dude...

The Cancuks trading for Chychrun only makes sense if they buy out OEL in the summer. Which I think they will. So all options are on the table. I would do that deal for Chychrun in a heartbeat. Problem though is that what if NYI keep the pick? Do we trade Chychrun for a 2024 1st round unprotected pick?

That's a big IF. Not every guy is like BO. Some guys just can't skate. He also doesn't strike me as a high hockey IQ guy. He is very talented and has alot of tools, but skating and hockey IQ are needed to succeed in the NHL. I agree about Turcotte, he's a great skater but his hockey IQ isn't great either and he's much smaller than Byfield. In any event, if LA pulls this off then IMO they are all in and need a goalie desperately...

I'm not high on Byfield. They also have Turcotte in the system as a potential 2C. Plus, they don't really have any LHD that are top 4 quality. Chychrun will help them now and in the future. If this move is actually true, then I would say LA might be all in and therefore need a goalie. Demko for Brandt Clarke...

The Leafs lost at home on national tv to the worst team in the NHL. And they had a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd period. Columbus also had 40 shots in the game. I would say they are desperate at this point. Dumbass is on the verge of losing his job. I’d do Tyler Myers with $3 million retention for the Leafs 2023 1st round pick. We could take one of their contracts as a salary dump.

Either my memory is fading fast or we are talking about two different players. The Sergei Gonchar I remember was a top offensive weapon but was also one of the better two way defenceman in the league. I’m pretty sure he was in the Norris trophy running on several occasions unless I’m thinking about someone else. Again, unless my memory is gone, Adam Foote was on the top pairing with Colorado and was one of the best defensive Dman of his era. Hughes may or may not win the Norris. Nobody knows for sure. But I wouldn’t write him off just yet when he’s only 23 years old.

There is no way the Islanders can make the playoffs now. They just lost 2 in a row to the bottom feeding teams, Pittsburgh has 5 games in hand, Washington 2 and Florida 2. The Islanders already dropped their load as well and went all in on BO. Meanwhile, the other teams still have moves to make at the deadline. According to Satiar Shar, the Islanders might give us the pick even if it's top 8 or 9, as they don't want to take a chance on giving us an unprotected pick next year. I don't see the Islanders being any better next year, so the chances of us getting another top 10 pick this year are quite high. We are 6th now and the other teams below us seem to be winning some games, so as long as Martin is in net, we have a good shot at losing alot more games this year. I think we end up with two top 10 picks this year. That would be fantastic news for the retool...
