  1. Horvat has been in the league for 9 years. It's widely known and statistically proven that he is an average defensive player over that 9-year period. Not sure about this year, but we are talking about his entire career in our conversations. Not sure when it comes to Horvat why people only want to reference what he has done this year and make that his calling card in the NHL.
  2. The difference with Linden is that he actually accomplished something in Vancouver, something for the fans to cheer about. He was a top end player as soon as he played his first game as a Canuck. He was a true leader on and off the ice. He bled for the Canucks, literally, playing with broken bones to lead us to almost winning the Stanley Cup. Fans were alot closer to Linden than they were to Horvat. Those are the facts. I know this because I was there and saw it all happen in real time. The last 8 years have not been kind to Canucks fans. I am not suggesting that this is BO's fault, but at the end of the day he was the leader of the team that basically sucked for the last 8 years, well he was the captain for the last 4 years anyways. I don't agree with people throwing jerseys onto the ice or slandering BO's name at every opportunity, but honestly he's not a Canuck anymore so I really don't care what people say about him anymore, including Alf. Time to move on from the BO era.
  3. Horvat's analytics when it comes to defensive play are average at best. Nothing to do with any Selke votes. However, if he was actually good defensively you would think he would have gotten more than one Selke vote from a local reporter over an 8 year career. I can't believe that people who have watched Horvat play for 8 years think he is actually good defensively...
  4. You didn't really answer the question though or refute anything of what Alf actually said. Most teams don't pay guys $8.5 million to play the bumper role. But good for Horvat to get that contract. Doesn't mean he deserved it. He's a 60 point guy who doesn't drive play and is an average defensive player. Those are the facts that you haven't refuted...
  5. To LA: Thatcher Demko To Vancouver: Brandt Clarke Cal Petersen We need a top 4 RHD badly. We need quality over quantity. Can't see how we get a top 4 RHD without moving a significant part. We didn't get one with Horvat, so we need to absolutely get one if we trade Demko. LA needs a goalie badly. They are in the playoffs. They have Kopitar and Doughty looking to make a final push. They have lots of RHD. This trade makes too much sense so it probably doesn't happen...
  6. What is factually wrong about what Alf said? Up until this year, Horvat never got more than 61 points. He doesn't drive play and he is average defensively (1 Selke vote in 8 years from Ben Kuzma)...
  7. They could afford Miller after this year. Just have to make the numbers work for this year. We could take Kapanen back, or maybe Dumoulin and we give them Schenn. Not sure how long Rutta is out, so they may want Schenn. That makes the cap work. And then their 2023 1st round pick and Samuel Poulin or Owen Pickering. Would help the tank for sure.
  8. You're right, I'm gonna leave. Not really a good use of my time trying to convince people that trading our greatest defenceman ever for a guy who is in the AHL and never played a game yet in the NHL plus a supposed 3C who doesn't actually play as a 3C is a bad idea...
  9. Cause I feel like it? Would you feel better if I said yes to the deal?
  10. I'm not trading Quinn for potential. A star in the making is not a star right now. Also, Mercer is a 3rd liner right now. How do you figure he is a star in the making? He doesn't even currently play centre?
  11. Quinn had 53 points in 68 games in the NHL as a 20-year-old. So, what is your point exaclty? Quinn is the franchise player right now, not Nemec...
  12. Quinn is the franchise player. You are trading him to New Jersey...
  13. They don't need Quinn and we don't need to trade the greatest Dman in Vancouver Canucks history...
  14. Exactly. Bedard, Fantilli or Carlsson are all better prospects than Hischier. Will Smith and Zach Benson are up there as well...
  15. Erik Gudbranson, Adam Larsson, Ryan Murray, Griffin Reinhart, Seth Jones, Noah Hanifin, Olli Juolevi. That's just from 2011 to now. All top 5 picks. Would you trade Quinn Hughes for any of these guys, even with a 1st round pick thrown in and a 3rd line centre? Also, Nemec isn't even the best Dman from his draft class. David Jiricek is. If Jiricek was involved in the deal, then that would peak my interest alot more...
  16. Honestly, the only guy I would want coming back for Quinn is Hischier. He is a sure thing and would be a perfect 2C behind Petey. That's how you build a team. All the other guys are prospects or roster players. If you are trading Quinn Hughes, you gotta have a star player coming back...
  17. Anything can happen, I agree with that. But even if both teams just win their easy games, the Islanders are still playing catchup hockey. Also, Pittsburgh is rumoured in on several deals. They aren't just going to hold their bag while Crosby is still playing. They may make their own BO type deal. We don't know yet...
  18. So, who else are they going to throw in after Nemec and Mercer? A 1st round pick that may be a bust? Holtz, who may be a 15-20 goal guy? Luke Hughes (obviously not)? Marino? Unless Jack Hughes or Nico Hischier are coming back, nothing they have is a sure thing other than Jesper Bratt, who is a winger and will want an $8 million+ deal...
  19. Pittsburgh plays Anaheim and San Jose in their next 4 games. If the Islanders are a slam dunk to win their easy games, wouldn't Pittsburgh also be a slam dunk to win theirs? You can't have it both ways. It's very hard to make up even 4-5 points in the NHL because of the loser overtime point. The Canucks played .680 hockey last year down the stretch and still couldn't make up 6-8 points.
  20. I'm not trading the greatest Dman in Canucks history for a guy who MAY be a 3C in the future, and for a Dman who MAY be a top 2 guy in the future. Mercer already needs to be a 3C who is showing that he can take draws with the best of them, and Nemec already needs to be a top 4 Dman playing 23 minutes a night before I make this deal. I;m not trading Quinn for potential. It needs to be a sure thing...
  21. True. However, Pittsburgh is ahead of the Islanders so they don't need to win those games in hand. The Islanders are the ones that are playing catchup and have to win these easy games coming up. I think you are missing that important point.
  22. The Islanders were 0-6 before they went 4-0. BO played 15 minutes tonight and had one goal. He wasn't the difference maker in the game. They do have an easy 3 games coming up, so it's possible they can go 7-0. But it wouldn't be because they have BO, it would be because they are playing Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa. However, even if they go 7-0, Pittsburgh still has 4 games in hand and so does Buffalo. Washington is no slouch either. Also, the Islanders already dumped their load with BO. They won't be making any more moves unless they want to trade their 2024 1st round pick. Meanwhile, Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Washington are still looking to do deadline deals to push them into the playoffs.
  23. Mercer is a 3rd line winger, we have lots of those types of players. He takes very few draws and is not very good at them, so he is not a 3C. Raty is a better prospect as a 3C. Nemec obviously is the central part of the deal, but you are basically stealing from Paul to pay Peter. The idea is to get a Nemec type player to play with Quinn, not trade Quinn to get a Nemec. What good is Nemec if he is playing with Dermott?
  24. They don't have the assets to add. It's impossible to get full value back for Quinn unless another similar play comes back in return. If you do this type of a trade you risk trading for guys who may not even pan out and draft picks who may never play in the NHL. I'd rather keep our 23 year old Dman and build around him and Petey. If things don't work out, you can always trade him in 2-3 years when he's in his full blown prime...
