They don't have the assets to add. It's impossible to get full value back for Quinn unless another similar play comes back in return. If you do this type of a trade you risk trading for guys who may not even pan out and draft picks who may never play in the NHL. I'd rather keep our 23 year old Dman and build around him and Petey. If things don't work out, you can always trade him in 2-3 years when he's in his full blown prime...

He's growing on me too. Everyone liked Boudreau. He's like your dad, you can hang out with him on the weekend and you want him to succeed. Tocchet is like the older brother that you hated growing up cause he always beat you up. But he went on to have a successful career in the sport that you love and now you want him to teach you everything he knows. He won't do that without being a bit of a dick, in your face and maybe whack you across the head a couple of times. But at the end of the day he will teach you how to be like him. That's how I see it. Petey seems to have gotten the message. He looks like Peter Forsberg 2.0 out there. Tocchet might be the best thing to ever happen to him. One thing I remember about the interview he did after the game where Joshua got that goal, had the fight and was all over the ice. He said he told Joshua that if he keeps playing like that he will be able to pay his mortgage payments for a long time. So true. These guys all have a short career. They can run with it and be successful and make millions, so they can pay off their mortgages, or they can go through the motions, be out of the league in 3-4 years and have to go out and sell cars or houses for a living to pay the bills.

Not every draft is the same though. I don't really see a McAvoy type in this year's draft. Or Chabot or Chychrun. In 2020, the Rangers moved up to #19 to get Braden Schneider. He was the best of the bunch. The rest of the guys after him are all projects at this point. We have some good prospects at LHD coming up, so we really need to focus on RHD. I don't see anyone available in the first round of this draft other than that smallish Swedish dude and Reinbacher. Maybe Reinbacher turns out. If he doesn't then you are looking at trying to find a Brandon Carlo in the 2nd or 3rd round.

[Signing] Sabres re-sign Dylan Cozens

I'd do Luukkonen, Jokiharju and a conditional 2023 1st for Demko... -

Buffalo I think is looking at this as similar to the Thompson deal. Lock Cozens up now before the price really goes up. Tage Thompson is the best value in the NHL right now on that new deal. Cozens might not be too far behind. The kid has the talent be special. Imagine having TWO right handed centres who are like 6'3" and 6'6" who can both put up 85-90 points+. Then you have 2 Dmen who are 6'3" and 6'6" as well who can be on your first pairing and one is already in the Norris trophy voting. Buffalo is building something special. Strength down the middle and at D are the core building blocks of a team... -
The Sedins lacked what Petey has. The will to sacrifice your body at any time to make a play. Landeskog has that mentality. That's why he is the captain and is a Stanley Cup champion. Petey at 24 is already dominating the league. The Sedins at 24 were 3rd line players. It took them many years just to become first line players. Their skating held them back for years and they were easily pushed around. Petey has a different mentality than the Sedins or Naslund. He is more like Landeskog and Peter Forsberg. Both Stanely Cup champions...

[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat

I agree. Miller and Garland can help the new core, at least in the short term. Boeser, Myers and OEL definitely have to go however. -
[Signing] Sabres re-sign Dylan Cozens

It is a good signing. Cozens is almost at a point per game and has shown great progression over 3 years, not just a few points here and there. 1st year he is at .32 PPG, 2nd year .48 PPG and now 3rd year .88. That is some real progression year over year. Next year he could be an 85-point player, which would make his contract already a great deal at age 22. -

@SilentSam Petey is turning into Gabriel Landeskog. At some point I think he is going to drop the gloves... -

The baton has officially been passed over. The Swedish beast has been unleashed... -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat

That is our future captain right there. The only other captain I remember making those types of hits was Trevor Linden. Petey may be Swedish, but he doesn't play like a typical Swedish player. He is in your face and hard on the puck and will lay out a hit if he has the chance. He is the ultimate competitor and will sacrifice his body to make a play. Rick Tocchet is going to turn him into a beast... -
[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat
Elias Pettersson replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He signed an 8 year deal. New York Islanders are an old team. Horvat isn't playing the long game. He may win now, but in 3 years he may be losing ALOT more than Petey... -
Fixing the defence won't be as easy. As I mentioned trading Demko and using that 1st round pick from the Islanders would be two ways to get two top 4 Dmen. Free agency to get another guy is a possibility. And then you have Joni Jurmo and Petey D. I think both those guys will be players. Maybe in 2-3 years we will see at least one of them in the lineup...
