[Signing] Sabres re-sign Dylan Cozens
Elias Pettersson replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wow, so they locked up both of their top centres to almost identical contracts. Just over $14 million for both of them for the next 7 years. That is good business from Buffalo. They learned from the Jeff Skinner deal that it is better to give the big money to the younger guys. $14 million locked up for your 1C and 2C for their entire prime years is a good piece of business. Much better than the Toronto model of almost $23 million... -
Long term no, I don't think so. I don't think Beauvillier will be aound past next season. He'd be a good player to trade at the deadline next year. I don't see us giving him another $4 million+ contract in Vancouver. Hoglander will be ALOT cheaper, so I see him getting into the lineup next year at some point. We will need a spot for Klimovich at some point, that kid is going to be a player. And Podkolzin has all the tools to be a regular top 9 contributor and maybe top 6. If we can get Fantilli in the draft and if Raty pans out at least as a 3C, then that would remake most of our top 9. Kuzmenko Pettersson Michkeyev Miller Fantilli Klimovich Hoglander Raty Podkolzin That would be a sick top 9 in a couple of years. All we'd have to do is get that #2 overall pick. I didn't mention Bedard because we all know that isn't going to happen. But Fantilli is probably going to be one of the better #2 overall picks in recent history. He could be on par with Petey...

If Petey wants to be a franchise centre then he will need to learn to take faceoffs and be at least in the 48% range, if not 50%. He can't be a true 1C if his faceoffs are in the 30's. He said in his interview with Marek and Friedman that faceoffs are the one area he wants to improve on. Knowing Petey, he will work on that in the summer. He came back from last year and has become a top two-way player now, so I have no doubt in my mind that he can learn to become a better faceoff guy.

[Signing] Islanders re-sign Bo Horvat
Elias Pettersson replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He had 4 shots and no goals tonight. I highly doubt he will keep up his shooting percentage of 22%. He won't get the same opportunities in New York that he got playing in Vancouver this year. He won't be able to cheat defensively either. He did register 2 hits and 2 blocks though. Having now signed his retirement contract I anticipate BO being a more physical player in New York than what we saw in Vancouver this year. The new defensive structure he's playing in will require it. -

Miller had 99 points last year not playing with BO. I think he will be fine without him... -
Who cares Wai, we are on team tank. Doesn't matter if we lose all of our faceoffs for the rest of the year. We will figure it out in the summer when the new guys come in. Replacing BO's faceoffs is the least of our concern. None of New Jersey's goals came off of a lost faceoff. It wasn't as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to me. The stat I liked is that we were aggressive all night and outhit New Jersey 33-15. That's Rick Tocchet hockey. One bite at a time. We also went 3-3 on the penalty kill during regulation time, including killing a 5-3. The forwards were much more aggressive on the PK. Again, Rick Tocchet hockey. If you actually watched the game you would have seen a big difference in all of the little things. The score doesn't tell the whole story. We had a brain fart for 50 seconds in the second period when all hell broke loose. The rest of the 59 minutes of the game we looked like the better team playing a much better defensive structure.

You didn't watch the game but you are saying that there was no difference on the ice? How do you know, you didn't watch the game? The stats don't tell the whole story. The Canucks looked like a completely different team in the 1st period. Forwards were backchecking, there was more urgency and speed in the game. New Jersey was lucky to come out 1-1 after the 1st. The difference in the game was 50 seconds of the second period. That's it. The overtime goal was on the PP, we should have actually had the PP but the refs blew the call. Beauvillier was flying all night. So was Podkolzin. Beau's speed was evident. Miller also had a good game. Petey should have had 2-3 points. Was probably tired from the All Star break and didn't have his legs. These are things you would have seen if you had actually watched the game. The stats didn't tell the story at all...

[Proposal] Van - TB Deadline deal
Elias Pettersson replied to Odjick the Warrior's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
He'd be a way better partner for Hughes than Ethan Bear. Would be great on the PK as well... -

Our penalty kill is 3 for 3. What’s going on?
