The question posed was that BO needed the extra $2 million to take care of his family. Obviously, that is not true. His family can get by with $6 million. The extra $2 million is for ego. And yes, I agree, it is the same for every player in the NHL. I wasn't just targeting BO, so not sure what your point is...

Yes, I heard about the tax thingy. I get pissed every time I have to write a cheque to CRA. $3 million net income after taxes is still enough to live freely and set up your kids for life. The extra $1 million after taxes is just for ego, it will never get spent unless the wifey likes to go shopping at Holt Renfrew and likes exotic cars...

Imagine not being able to live off of $6 million per year... The money is simply an ego thing, who gets paid more. It has nothing to do with providing for your family unless you are a 4th line plug making minimum wage. The top end guys are all getting paid millions. Whether BO gets paid $6 million per year or $8 million per year, his family is still set for life as well as several of his future generations. The extra $2 million is for the ego only...

Raty perhaps, but I doubt that Podkolzin plays another full season in Abby. I could see Beauvillier on the 3rd line if we can land one of the 3 centres and Miller is the left winger on the 2nd line. So Beau would be the veteran on that line. Maybe Karlsson starts off on the 4th line, but yes I do see him being ready next year as well. Alot will depend on what we do with Garland and Boeser. If both are traded then that would free up enough spots for all of these young guys to come in and play.

The Islanders have Pageau who is very good defensively and is also great at faceoffs. I assume BO will play with Barzal and will play primarily in an offensive role. However, as the other poster pointed out, the Islanders PP sucks so not sure that BO will be getting all those bumper spot goals like he was in Vancouver. And the Islanders are a Lou team that play with alot of defensive structure, so BO won't be able to cheat offensively either. Last year Barzal had 59 points and was their leading scorer. This year he is on pace for 68 points. The chances of BO getting 80+ points with the Islanders is almost zero. He may regress back to his 60 point pace, maybe 65 points. He won't be getting all those PP goals with the Islanders. But if he signs his retirement contract with them then it won't matter anyways. Once he puts pen to paper it will be the same as Miller, neither one will be forced to have career years any longer. Miller will be his PPG guy and BO will be the 60-65 point guy.

You are the one who put up the plus/minus stat from this year to claim that BO was better defensively, not me. I simply looked at all years like you are supposed to. At the end of the day, nobody cares about plus/minus as it's basically a team stat. If your team sucks, your plus/minus will suck. BOTH players suck defensively, and neither one are Selke type players at all. BO gets put out in defensive situations because he is forced to, not because he is good at it. Miller is much better in the offensive zone so the coaches leave him on the bench for defensive faceoffs. Last year Miller was much better defensively than he is playing this year. If he actually tries he is not that bad.

Podkolzin Raty Karlsson That could be our 3rd line next year. If we luck out with one of Bedard/Fantilli/Carlsson then our top 6 will look even better. Alot hinges on this draft. We are in full tank mode now. With a potential Demko trade we could be bottom 3 by years end...

It will be more like 300 points when Bedard arrives...

Horvat is a -65 throughout his career. Miller is a +28. Why do people only look at this year when they talk about Horvat? He's been in the league 9 years. He's an average defensive player. Got one Selke vote in 9 years from Ben Kuzma. This myth that he is some kind of defensive guru ala ROR or Bergeron is quite laughable really...
