  1. Gudbranson was a 3rd overall pick in his draft year. I guess most teams felt he wasn't garbage back then. And how did we break the bank trading for him? McCann isn't even being protected by Pittsburgh. He's a journeyman player that can't seem to stick with any team, just like Gudbranson. They are both 1st round picks that are not living up to their draft potential. Very common in the NHL. We also gave Florida a 2nd round pick and the guy they picked is now playing in Buffalo so his career is effectively over.
  2. That's fine. You are guessing that our defence will be worse. I'm guessing it might be better. We won't know for sure until Benning plays his cards.
  3. How do you know this as a fact when you don't even know Benning's next move?
  4. Everybody was demanding a change to the D and to not overpay for Edler and Hamonic. You got your wish. Hope you are happy. Now maybe we can stop the Benning bashing for awhile until we know what he's up to...
  5. Yes I agree. Like Craig Button said he's a 3rd pairing guy on a contender at this point and so the Canucks most likely offered him a contract reflective of that value. So he probably wants to shop around to see what the market is for his services. If he can find a contender who will offer him similar money to the Canucks then he may go for that. Tampa could be an option. That's where Ohlund went and he has Hedman there. With Savard and Schenn probably gone they could fit him in as a swing guy on the 3rd pairing. And he has a good chance to win a Cup.
  6. If Benning's only move this summer is bringing in a 4th line plug I will fly the plane with the "Fire Benning" banner over Vancouver myself and give Squamfan a day off...
  7. Hmmm, Carlson, Orlov, Schultz, Dillon, Jensen. That's 5 guys. Is Dillon being left unprotected as well?
  8. I like me some Trenin. If he is being left unprotected that is a deal Benning can make. I'd rather have him and expose Lind, MacEwen and Gadjovich.
  9. If you move Hughes to the right side then you 100% need to trade Schmidt unless you think we are the Soviet Red Army. Mind you that may not be a bad idea. We do have Podkolzin so if Hughes pretends he is Russian then we just need 3 more guys. Petey is 10% Russian on his moms side, so that makes 3. That Zadorov trade is looking more likely now.
  10. LOL... The Avs biggest defender they currently have signed for next season is 195 pounds, Bowen Byram. Is he replacing Graves? Unless they are relying on Johnson to come back they better start making some serious moves starting tomorrow.
  11. Colorado doesn't have much left to protect after Graves is gone. I think they have to decide between Compher and Nichushkin. So trading Graves made sense from that standpoint. What they should have done is try and trade one of their smaller D and protect Graves. They are gonna get smoked in next year's playoffs. Winnipeg is a team where they have two good players they can lose. Appleton and Stanley. So they probably stand pat and try and work a deal with Seattle or just suck it up and lose one of the two. If they trade one then they certainly lose the other so might as well stand pat and keep one.
  12. The Avs have a new look D right now. And some new recruits are on their way. It's all about the speed really...
  13. Man that Avs D just got tiny... Reaves broke Graves to be honest, don't think he will ever be the same...
  14. I knew I missed something. That sounds like an impressive resume. I always liked Weber and I was rooting for Montreal to win the Cup. Mostly for Burrows but also for Weber and Price. I don't think that resume beats out a Hart trophy to be honest, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. In my "which defenceman in their prime are you taking" thread I noticed that Pronger is leading the way with 12 votes, Robinson has 10 and Weber only has one. Hey, it's only a CDC poll but that kinda tells you how alot of people feel. Weber was a great defenceman, one of the best of his generation for sure. Pronger and Robinson however were both a level above in my opinion.
  15. There is no advantage in buying out Eriksson or Roussel so it’s best to keep them around or send them to Abbotsford. Holtby has interest around the league so we may be able to actually get something for him without retaining any salary. Virtanen’s buyout is quite small, only a 50k cap hit this year and 500k next year so he’s the most likely candidate to be bought out. Beagle is our 4C so no reason to ship him out. He may end up on LTIR so it could be a moot point. Pretty much all of our bad contracts are accounted for in the above scenario so nothing should be stopping Benning from being aggressive this off-season while still allowing the bad contracts to expire next summer. Trading Schmidt could also free up money to get a partner for Hughes.
