[Signing] Panthers re-sign Gustav Forsling
Elias Pettersson replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Hey Gillis gave Benning Ben Hutton. What more could you ask for really if you were to start a team from scratch? Not to mention the Sedins at the prime age of 34. And don't forget Kesler, the guy who asked for a trade to ONE team. I'm sure any competent GM would have gotten a massive return for Kesler given those conditions... -
[Signing] Panthers re-sign Gustav Forsling
Elias Pettersson replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So I guess there is still hope for Juolevi and he may not be a bust after all. Let's give him another 2 years to see where he is at instead of putting him in every trade proposal... -
[Signing] Panthers re-sign Gustav Forsling
Elias Pettersson replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So you would be okay with a left D of Hughes, Forsling and Rathbone? -
So I thought about this after the Shea Weber thread. Let's put it out there. These are guys that are obviously known more for their 200' game and their play away from the puck. I could have added some different guys but I thought this list would bring up a pretty good debate as their is no clear cut winner in my opinion. All 10 guys could get a vote. Which DEFENCEMAN in their prime are you taking? This could be the best debate yet. Let the fun begin!! And YES, I intentionally left ORR and LIDSTROM off the list. I know they are the two greatest ever...

Farm team name, brand and logo reveal
Elias Pettersson replied to -SN-'s topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Here are the logos for the AHL teams for Boston, Toronto and Montreal, 3 original 6 teams. Maybe Aquilini should have just put a big "A" on the front, or a "C", or an Orca... -
Farm team name, brand and logo reveal

You just quoted Squamfam which is all you need to know. That jersey looks photoshopped. The logo is completely off centre which is the telling sign. The Canucks never used it and it was never for sale. Identity Crisis: A Comprehensive History of Vancouver Canucks Jerseys | Derek Woo -
I was going to add Ovechkin and Crosby to fill out the top 10 but didn't bother as the top 4 is so obvious. I added McDavid as this year was as dominant a year for a player since the Lemieux and Gretzky years. Even Gretzky himself when asked about McDavid this year said: "He's gone to another level". Richard I did not consider. I agree on your comments regarding Bobby Orr. In my opinion there was Gretzky and Orr and then Lemieux was a small step below them. And then Howe was #4. In their PRIME I look at Gretzky winning 7 Art Ross trophies in a row and Orr winning 8 Norris trophies in a row. The tie breaker for me was that Gretzky won 8 Hart trophies in a row and Orr won only 3 in a row. Of course the knee injuries played into that, but when deciding who is the greatest player in their prime you do have to look at the stats and the Hart trophy signifies the best player in the game at that time. Lemieux is a small step below because he was so dominant but his window was so short because of his health issues. His 6 Art Ross trophy wins were scattered over a period of 10 years, but more importantly he won the Hart trophy only 3 times and those were also scattered over a 9 year period. To me you can't pick Lemieux over Gretzky simply for that reason alone. And "in your prime" has to be more than a couple of years combined. If Lemieux had been totally healthy then I think he may have surpassed Gretzky and Orr, it is hard to say because it never happened. But that is how I arrive at my top 3 greatest players in their prime. For me it is Gretzky, then Orr, then Lemieux. In arriving at the greatest player in their prime you have to put together a logical analysis to arrive at a conclusion and that is what I did. Of course many people will not agree with me on my analysis so that is why we have this thread so we can debate this topic and others can share their thoughts and analyses.

(proposal) Braden Schieder to Vancouver
Elias Pettersson replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I like Schneider and I think the Rangers like him too. So not sure why they would trade him at this point. Only way they do this deal is if they really like the player who is left a 9. But if Benning likes that player too then Benning should just keep the pick. Benning said there are 9 guys he likes, so he would have to like Schneider alot more than the guy left at 9 to pull the trigger. -
1. Burying Eriksson and Roussel in Abbotsford wouldn't be considered a bold move. Eriksson is heading there regardless and Roussel might stick around as the 13th forward 2. Buying out Virtanen and Holtby has been talked about at length. I think Holtby can get traded and I think they buy out Virtanen 3. Reimer is an option as a backup as are about 5 other goalies 4. We have more than one thread on trading Schmidt and it has been reported he may be on the block. I'm sure we can get more for Schmidt than a former 7th round pick smallish defenceman in Nutivaara 5. Graves will get taken by Seattle or Colorado makes a deal with Seattle to take someone else, so this trade will never happen. Vancouver isn't trading 2 2nd rounds picks or Juolevi and a 2nd rounder for Graves. Benning will just re-sign Edler to fill the role on the left side 6. YES to Jani Hakanpaa. NO to Mark Pysyk 7. NO to Mikael Granlund and Alex Wennberg. I like Wennberg but he will cost too much 8. No to all those forward fillers 9. Benning isn't going to offer sheet anyone 10. Edler is coming back, that is pretty obvious

He's owed only $1 million each year for the last 3 years of his contract. I don't think he will have a problem walking away from $3 million off a $110 million contract. Luongo walked away from the last 3 years of his deal and $3.6 million. It helps Montreal if he retires and it kills Nashville. Does Weber have a concern over whether Nashville will have a recapture or not, or would he just prefer to move on with his life post retirement and maybe find a job somewhere in the hockey world like Luongo did? There was no reason for Luongo to stay on LTIR for another 3 years simply to help Vancouver. He wanted to move on with his life. Weber may choose to do the same thing. The only concern for Weber is that Nashville gets pissed off enough that they don't retire his number. I don't think Montreal retires his #6, they already have 17 numbers retired and #6 and #8 are the only two numbers left not retired in the top 10.

Shea Weber is close to Scott Stevens. Chris Pronger is a level above both of them. He was the best player in the NHL in 2000, including all the forwards and goalies. He was a +52 that year. He went to the finals with 3 different teams and led Anaheim to the Cup when they never had won it before he arrived. Is it a coincidence Pronger shows up in Edmonton and they go to the finals, then Burkie brings him to Anaheim the very next year and Anaheim goes to the finals and wins it all? I get all the hate for Pronger, but if he was a Canuck he would have been a fan favourite...

Farm team name, brand and logo reveal
Elias Pettersson replied to -SN-'s topic in Prospects / Farm Team
The idea is the team is out in the Valley. Lots of green out there. That's why the team's main colour is green and not blue. The Johnny Canuck represents the outdoors, kinda like out in the Valley with all the trees and greenery. That's why they chose that logo. The name Canucks was obvious. It's because Aquilini is a traditionalist and likes to keep things simple. That's why he changed the colours of the team back to their original colours. People may not like the name or the logo but it does make alot of sense if you really think about it. And contrary to what others have said their seems to have been alot of thought into it to keep it traditional. -

For sure. But then Hamilton is not a Hamonic replacement. He would be replacing Schmidt. So you’d have to trade Schmidt, try and sign Hamilton to an $8 million+ contract and then either re-sign Hamonic or find a replacement that can kill penalties. Hamilton wouldn’t be playing with Hughes so effectively he would be on your 2nd pairing getting paid $8 million+ and he can’t kill penalties. Teams looking to sign Hamilton would be looking for a top pairing D who can play first unit PP. We already have Hughes in that role so a Hamilton signing doesn’t really make a lot of sense for us, especially at the price it will cost.
-
Yes like I said we’d be winning some games 6-5. But do you really want Dougie Hamilton partnering Hughes? First off Hamilton wouldn’t be on the first unit PP unless we switch formations and play 2 D. Secondly he wouldn’t be on the first unit PK either. So you are going to be paying a guy $8 million+ to not contribute on the top special teams units. If you want Hamilton as a Schmidt replacement then that’s a different story. But if you are brining in Hamilton as a straight swap for Hamonic then all of a sudden Myers is playing the top unit PK. I’d rather we trade Schmidt and get some more beef on the backline. With Hughes and Rathbone we will have 2 excellent puck movers. We need to surround them with better quality defensive defencemen.
