  1. This is true. But at the end of the day neither prime McDavid nor prime Crosby are better than prime Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux or Howe so in terms of the poll question it’s a mute point. I kinda added McDavid just for fun to see the response. He actually got 5 votes so far so 5 people are taking McDavid over Gretzky.
  2. Great questions. Prime means at their peak. In any era. As for Crosby, I did consider him and I probably should have added him to the list as well as Ovechkin. But honestly I don't think a prime Crosby is even close to a prime Gretzky, Orr, Mario, Howe or even McDavid. McDavid is already better than what Crosby did in his prime. I mean McDavid has already won more Art Ross trophies than Crosby and he's only 24. And he's already got 2 Hart trophies which is the same as Crosby, who is 9 years older.
  3. I'm pretty sure Detroit has the cap space to take on Jake's full contract. Imagine the uproar though if Jake went to Detroit and became a 30 goal scorer in the top 6 and Bertuzzi has to retire in 2 years due to back problems? And then to make matters worse DiPietro turns into a legit starting NHL goalie and Yzerman drafts a top 4 defenceman with the 2nd round pick. This is the problem with trading young assets and picks for players over the age of 25. The Mantha trade is a good example. That's going to look really bad in 2-3 years. I'm on board with the Bertuzzi trade but it is something that could backfire on Benning big time and our fan base will never let it go...
  4. That graph actually makes my point even stronger for Gretzky... Why did the graph only stop at 60 goals by the way? What about 70 and 80 and 90? Anyways, Bossy was one of my favourites to be honest with you so I'm just busting your chops on this. I wish Bossy had played 20 years as well. I'll never forget the moment Snepsts gifted him that goal however...
  5. Trading a 2nd round pick and a prospect like DiPietro or Lind for a 26 year old 20 goal scorer is not going all in. I already said we shouldn't trade our 9OA this year. And I don't think Benning is gonna trade it either unless he gets a great offer for it.
  6. Ummm the Canucks already have most of their core in place. Detroit has stripped to the bare bone and need help in ALL positions. Big difference. We already have our top 2 centres in place, starting goalie, #1 winger, #1 or #2 Dman (whatever you want to call Quinn) and two very promising young studs in Hoglander and Podkolzin. Detroit is still missing some big pieces. Stevie Y is going a great job so far. With those 22 picks in the next 2 years he should be able to acquire most of those missing pieces. Bertuzzi is just another chip he is dangling. He doesn't really need him because there is no urgency for Detroit to make the playoffs in the next 2-3 years. Benning has already stated that his intention is for the Canucks to e competitive next year and make the playoffs, so he's not going to change course and start stockpiling draft picks. That ship has sailed. If Benning gets fired next summer then the new GM can start from scratch. Let's hope that doesn't happen as I do really want to see Vancouver win a Cup before I die.
  7. That wasn't my question. My question was how many times did Bossy score 70 goals? Gretzky did it 4 times. Wouldn't the best pure goal scorer in hockey history also have the record of most goals in a season? Or at least hit the 70 goal mark once since other players like Esposito, Hull, Lemieux, Kurri, Mogilny, Selanne, and Nicholls were able to do it as well? And for the record Gretzky also scored 50 or more goals in 9 out of 10 seasons. So that is pretty close to 9 in a row is it not?
  8. Gretzky scored 70 goals or more 4 times. How many times did Bossy score 70 goals in a single season?
  9. Yeah I wish we had that defence. Mind you Tampa also won a Cup with Shattenkirk last year, so there is room for a smaller mobile D. I don't necessarily disagree that Quinn should be the only one, but I think Rathbone just has too much potential to let go at this point. If he flourishes then you can always trade Quinn. You want to keep your options open. So I wouldn't let go of Rathbone at this point. Surround them with guys like Olesiak and Hakanpaa. My dream is Cernak.
  10. Stevie Y is stockpiling draft picks. He now has 22 picks over the next two drafts. I would say at this point he may be looking for some young prospects who can step in and play. Bertuzzi checks most boxes in terms of what we need. Obviously the issue is his health. If he is 100% this is a no brainer, he would be a perfect fit in our lineup. I'm sure we wouldn't want another Ferland situation. He's also up for a new contract, but I'm assuming he will take a short one year deal to get more leverage next year. I'd do our 2nd plus a prospect. DiPietro could work. He would be a backup here and Benning can draft another goalie this year. Or we could do our 2nd plus Lind and Virtanen. I wouldn't touch the 9OA though. We still need to keep building our base of young core players.
  11. I think we have room for two. Rathbone plays big for his size and would be a great offensive weapon on the 2nd PP. He is good defensively as well. I agree at most we should only have the two though. I'm in favour of trading Schmidt and getting more beef on the back end.
  12. Yes for the hockey drafts in the 80's you were not allowed to take Gretzky. Most drafts split Gretzky into two, his goals and his assists. Most people took Gretzky's assists anyways, and I believe he would have won several scoring titles even if you took away all his goals.
  13. Okay, no number on this one. Just the player. No messing around. You know the drill. Which player in their prime are you taking? This should be the best one yet, let's gooo!!!
  14. Hedman 6'6" 230 Cernak 6'3" 233 Savard 6'2" 229 Sergachev 6'2" 217 Rutta 6'2" 204 Foote 6'3" 209 Schenn 6'2" 227 McDonagh 6'1" 214 Yeah that lineup is tiny...
  15. That lineup is softer than a baby's bottom. The defence especially. Benning said he wants to get bigger on the backend not smaller...
  16. Even at a reduced salary you are still locked in for 6 more years. Most of our bad contracts will be off the books next summer. It’s better just to wait it out a year rather than trade for a player with so much term left. Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle, Holtby (unless he is bought out) and Luongo’s recapture penalty. That’s $19 million off the books next summer.
  17. OEL for 6 more years is a terrible idea. Rathbone and/or Juolevi should be able to play in the top 4 within a year or two. I’d rather just keep Schmidt and play him on the right side. Actually I’d rather try and trade Schmidt and use the money to get a long term partner for Hughes plus add some more beef on the back end.
  18. Even in disguise as an old man Ronaldo has much better moves than that guy.
  19. This is true. However I do believe Schmidt fills a need for them. If you package Schmidt to Winnipeg to get Appleton then that alleviates the issue of losing Appleton. Seattle then has to choose between Schmidt and Stanley. Winnipeg can only lose one. If Seattle takes Schmidt then Winnipeg can keep Stanley and they free up $6 million in cap space to go after a UFA. If Seattle takes Stanley then Winnipeg can do the same thing. Go after a UFA to fill the gap. At the end of the day Winnipeg will lose something. Either they lose one of Appleton or Stanley or they lose the assets required to keep them both.
  20. Appleton and Stanley will most likely both be left exposed by Winnipeg if they do nothing. If they trade Appleton then that leaves only Stanley exposed and Seattle probably takes him. If they don't trade Appleton then Appleton will most likely be the guy Seattle takes. Stanley and Appleton are two players that fit the Canucks needs right now. A stay at home defenceman who is big and strong and can fight and who could become a top 4 guy, and a speedy RW who can play on the 3rd line and move up into the top 6 when needed. And both are in the 23-25 age group. Unless Winnipeg trades them or does a side deal with Seattle, one of them will get taken by the Kraken. Vancouver should look heavily into acquiring one of these players, if not both. Schmidt can fill a need for Winnipeg and they would also be looking at younger guys that don't need exposure. So a guy like Jett Woo they may be interested in. Appleton would be my first choice to try and make a deal with as we need a RW to fill that 2nd line/3rd line hole. I firmly believe Podkolzin will come in and play a top 6 role right away, so you can play Appleton on the 3rd line.
  21. I went with Diego Maradona. In his prime he carried Argentina on his back and won the 1986 World Cup all by himself. And yes “God’s hand” did help him. He also scored the goal of the Century in that tournament. This one is hard though as Pele is a legend and Messi is the guy everyone recognizes today.
  22. Demelo isn't an upgrade on Hamonic. I'd rather keep the 9OA and re-sign Hamonic and keep Gadjovich as well who I think can be a power forward in this league. Trade Schmidt for help up front and re-sign Hamonic and go and grab Hakanpaa as a UFA. That's a much better solution.
