(Proposal) running 11F and 7D
Elias Pettersson replied to Bad_BOI_pete's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
So if we run 11 forwards which forward is going to double shift all game? BO? Miller? Someone will have to play on the 4th line that is already in the top 9 forwards, unless you think Bowey can play right wing. Adding Bowey as a 7D would help on the PK for defencemen but then what about the forwards? Usually the 4th line is used to kill penalties. So we'd be one forward short on the PK and would need to play BO and Miller more than we would want in killing penalties... -
Madison Bowey will be our #7 D. He will be with the big club next year. Chatfield will be in Abbotsford with Woo, Brisebois and maybe Sautner and Teves. Bowey is a RHD so unless he gets injured we probably don't see Chatfield. It also depends on the development of Woo. He is also a RHD so he could be called up before Chatfield. Chatfield is also a UFA like Sautner and Teves so it's possible none of them even return.

Chatfield will be fine as a callup from Abbotsford. We do need some depth down there for sure. Rafferty I think is going to Europe.

Alfie you can come into the dressing room anytime, we have a 100' TV to watch the games... -
Chatfield and Rafferty. Canucks fans cursing at Benning to upgrade the D but some people want to bring back these 2 guys who are AHL caliber at best. I think we need to move on from the Rafferty's and Chatfield's of the world and tell Benning to go get some real NHL defencemen with some beef and girth...

Yeah he's a warrior. I think Perry has been one of their best players for sure. And Suzuki. Kotkaniemi was invisible tonight. As with Toffoli. And Anderson and Caufield looked slow. I'd definitely take Vancouver's forwards over Montreal. Montreal has a much better defence. Demko is going to be a star so Benning needs to spend most of his time this summer working on our defence. We need to get some big boys like Montreal and Tampa have. That is what will take us deep into the playoffs.
-
Toffoli hasn't scored in forever. What happened to all those posters who said he was the second coming? 1 goal against Vegas, 0 goals against Tampa Bay. Wait until next year when Montreal has to play the US teams. His numbers this year were an aberration. He will be back to Tanner Pearson numbers next year. Caufield is a nice little player. But eventually he's gonna get bullied by the big boys. Where are the posters that said the Canucks should have taken him over Podkolzin? That must have been a joke. Nobody could actually be serious that Caufield will be better than Podkolzin. Podkolzin will be Trevor Linden in the playoffs. He won't be a no show like Toffoli and Caufield when he plays against the big boys. At 6'2" 215 pounds he will be one of the big boys.

Petey loves European football almost as much as hockey. Too bad Sweden is out. I think it will be Italy vs. England in the final. England will have home field advantage so they are the favourites. It could be a game for the ages. Wembley will be rocking. -

[Speculation] Is Schmidt on the move?
Elias Pettersson replied to Me_'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Boston isn't trading Carlo. If they want Schmidt it would be to play WITH Carlo. We'd have to look elsewhere for a partner for Hughes. With Schmidt's salary off the books, Holtby and Virtanen bought out and a guy like Hakanpaa signed to a reasonable deal we should have enough cap space to go hard after either a UFA Dman or make a trade for one. -

No. But I’d do Schmidt for Nick Ritchie plus a 2nd round pick in 2022 (Boston doesn’t have a 2nd this year). I’d play Ritchie with Petey and Brock. Then we can move Miller to 3C. I would then sign Jani Hakanpaa to play with Olli Juolevi. We would still need to find a partner for Hughes though. -

If we could trade Schmidt that would free up enough money to go hard after Erik Cernak. We could take on Tyler Johnson’s contract and fit both Johnson and Cernak under the cap. If we take on Johnson I don’t think we’d have to give up our 9OA pick. We could probably do our 2nd plus a prospect. We could sign Jani Hakanpaa to replace Schmidt. I’d rather do a Cernak/Johnson deal than a Dobson/Ladd deal. But honestly if we could get Dobson I would be okay with that too. Ladd would only have one year left so he would balance the books better than Johnson. Ladd probably would be fine playing in Abbotsford for a year as well. Hughes Cernak/Dobson Juolevi Hakanpaa Rathbone Myers Edler

Podkolzin is already better than Hoglander. Podkolzin will immediately start in the top 6. I have him playing on BO's right side. Hoglander may be the guy who gets put on a newly revamped scoring 3rd line...

I don't think this helps LA at all. They should have kept the draft capital that they did such a good job of acquiring. Arvidsson's production level is trending downwards. LA's top core are all in their 30's. Most of their young top prospects aren't even on the big club yet. Their new rebuild window hasn't even started yet. They still need a top flight goalie and several defencemen to complete their rebuild. Those two draft picks could have helped as you don't always hit on every pick and having two picks in the 2nd round this year would have allowed them to take a flyer on a guy with a high risk/high reward profile. I think Nashville did a great job of getting good value for a declining asset. Poile is a top GM.

Podkolzin is going to be a great playoff performer. Think Trevor Linden. I think Podkolzin is going to be a star. He won’t be as flashy as Pavel Bure or Alex Mogilny but at the end of his career in Vancouver he will leave a lasting legacy similar to the Russian Rocket. -

A gut feeling at the moment. But in watching both players it seems Rathbone has a more well rounded game. He is 2 years older so of course that helps him in the short term. But Rathbone does have a lot of similarities to Adam Fox. I don’t see that with Byram. I’m not saying Byram won’t be a good player. He may even become a star. But I see Norris Trophy potential in Rathbone. He could become one of the greatest 4th round draft picks in NHL history. I don’t see Byram winning a Norris Trophy.
