[Proposal] tell me what you think DET/VAN

Why don't we keep Schmidt and trade for Brayden McNabb? -

Thomas Chabot was a -18 last year and a -10 this year. Do you think Ottawa should trade him? You are comparing +/- for players who are playing on elite playoff teams versus teams that didn't even make the playoffs. Miro Heiskanen is another Dman who went from +14 last year to -9 this year. Did he regress like Hughes? Should Dallas trade him too? Erik Karlsson was a -30 in his second year in the NHL in 2011, even worse than Hughes. He went on to win the Norris Trophy the very next year in 2012. Should Ottawa have traded him in 2011? -

I like Dobson but don't see him as a franchise defenceman right now. Also, with Shaw coming in I think we will see a big improvement in Quinn's defensive game. I don't think he will be signing a contract over $6.5 million so he should be relatively cost controlled for the next 3 years. Quinn will only get better so we can either keep him and find him the right partner or we can trade him when his value is higher. Also, it depends on the emergence of Rathbone. If Rathbone turns out to be Adan Fox then he will be in our top 4 which would allow us to trade Quinn and get a huge return for him. Right now our focus should be on getting some big bodies on the back end to complement Hughes and Rathbone and to get a 3C. -

[Rumour] Tkachuk may want out of Calgary
Elias Pettersson replied to CanucksCountry's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Great point Alfie… -
Yes, there are players who simply look at their individual statistics so they can get their individual awards and get paid millions of dollars. There is nothing wrong with a player looking after themselves. However, like every sport, hockey is a team game and the playoffs are really a new season. There are players who play to win it all and those are the ones you want to acquire. Sometimes you don't know who those players are, so making the playoffs each year is key to find out which players you can go to battle with and win the wars. Toronto is a perfect example of a team with some star players who play well during the regular season but taper off when the wars start in the playoffs. Marner specifically looks to be that type of player.

We already have Hughes, Rathbone and Schmidt. We don't need Dante Fabbro. We need guys like Erik Cernak, Jamie Olesiak and Shea Weber.

The goal of every team in the NHL is to win the Stanley Cup. The goal is not to win the President's Trophy. There are teams that are not the best team during the regular season that end up winning the Cup. It has happened quite a bit. Look at the Canucks in 1982 and 1994. We were not the best team in the NHL regular season, not even close, but we went to the Cup finals both years and almost won it in 1994. In 2011 we were the best team in the NHL regular season, however we did not win the Cup. Your analysis in this thread is simply to discredit Montreal's achievements this year and to state that Toronto is a better team. Theoretically Toronto was a better team during the regular season. However, just like the last 54 years, they were not able to win the Stanley Cup. If you were to ask every player, every coach, every GM and every owner of every team they will tell you that their goal is to win the Stanley Cup. And it is the same with the fans of every team.

OJ can be a good reliable two way defenceman. Maybe a top 4 guy. Rathbone however has the potential to be a superstar similar to Adam Fox.

[Rumour] Jake Debrusk done in Boston?
Elias Pettersson replied to 48MPHSlapShot's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I actually would explore this, but only if they move Miller to 3C. If Hoglander can play with Petey and Brock then Jake can play left wing on a new scoring line with Miller. Hoglander Petey Borck Pearson BO Podkolzin DeBrusk Miller ?? I'd only do it if they took the same cap back though. Virtanen wouldn't work as we are better off just buying him out. Roussel would be the only logical option. Roussel doesn't fit on a new look 3rd scoring line so he's either gonna take a spot on the 4th line or be in the press box. -
It sounds like they like Miller as a centre but also like to keep him on the 649 line. I guess it all depends if they can find a 3C to get a 3rd scoring line. Ferland I believe is done as he's on the 18 man NHL list that was approved by the NHLPA for players who are deemed to have a career ending injury. So I don't think he's coming back. It's easier to acquire a winger than a 3C so they may play Miller at centre. It also depends on who they draft. If they draft McTavish then they probably get an older vet to play 3C for a year until McTavish is ready to make the jump. If they draft a winger then they may look at playing Miller as their 3C and getting a veteran winger for a year or two until the winger is ready to play. I don't think Vesey is coming back. I really like Lockwood. I think he makes the club next year. You can play him on the 4th line with Highmore and either Motte or Lind or go out and get a 4C. All depends on the ED and who they lose. Lots of options. This summer should be exciting. I think Benning is going to be aggressive along with the Twins helping him and he is going to make several moves. I know alot of people around here think he is just going to re-sign Edler and Hamonic and try and patch up the 3rd line. I don't think that's gonna happen. I think Benning will make at least one bold move this summer.

I think Rathbone was living downtown in one of Aquilini's suites in the building attached to Rogers Arena. If a player is on a short term stay, is traded midseason, etc. then that is where they go. My insider Canucks friend told me this. I think Rathbone makes the team outright next year and collects his $925,000 salary. If so I am sure he will find a beautiful furnished rental to live in our gorgeous City.

I do like Jasek as a player but I think the Canucks are going in a different direction. That's why he's headed to Europe. We need more beef up front and on the back end. Even Kole Lind might have problems making the team next year if he's still with us. I don't see him as a fit on Benning's new and improved scoring 3rd line and we have lots of guys who can play on that 4th line. I see Miller staying on the 649 line and I think Podkolzin will be a great fit with BO and Pearson. So that leaves Benning to find some new linemates for Hoglander on a scoring 3rd line. Virtanen could have been one of those guys if he had an IQ over 40, but unfortunately that ship has sailed.
