  1. Good GM's are also able to draft a good core. That's what Benning has done. Drafting a good core is much harder than signing and trading for bottom 6 players and 3rd pairing defencemen. Benning has taken this ship close to the dock. He should be allowed to drive it in and park it.
  2. So the core sucks then? Should a new GM come in then and trade Petey, Hughes, Demko and Boeser?
  3. True enough, but isn't the most difficult thing to build the core? How do you acquire top elite talent unless you draft them? Isn't that what Benning has done? Isn't it alot easier to build around the core than to actually acquire it? If so, why not give Benning some more leeway to build around HIS core? Why have another GM do it? Also, the final pieces of the puzzle will mainly come from additional draft picks that aren't in the lineup yet. Podkolzin, Lind, Gadjovich, Rathbone, Juolevi, Tryamkin, Di Pietro. That's another 30% of the future team right there. The only thing that needs tweaking are a couple big pieces like a partner for Hughes and a 3C. Most everything else is already in place. Guys like Beagle, Sutter, Roussel, Eriksson, etc., there were circumstances to add them at the time. Sutter had never been injured before he got to Vancouver, Beagle was a 4C on a Stanley Champion, Roussel was actually a good player at the time he was signed and Eriksson was coming off a 30 goal season. Hindsight is 20/20. But at the time of those deals, they weren't all that bad. Plus Aquilini wanted a retool on the fly and wanted the Sedins to get one last shot at a Cup. So Benning accommodated his request and Linden was fired because he wanted a full rebuild. Benning is contracted for another two years. The chances of him being fired right now are about zero. The coaching staff is as good as gone. So this is what we are left with. Let's see what Benning does in the offseason. I am not opposed to him getting fired if we have to deal with being a lottery team for the next 2 years. Obviously Benning has to do something to get this team to the playoffs next year or else his job is on the line like everyone else.
  4. So the plan is to sign every single UFA that will be available? Are you not aware that there is a salary cap in the NHL?
  5. Isn't Benning the one who built this core? If so, are you suggesting a new GM comes in and trades everybody? I mean if the core sucks like you say that is what should happen right?
  6. Your coaching career is coming to an end so you've decided to go back to medical school. Smart choice...
  7. I’m not Jim. I’m Petey. I know you miss me. I’ll be back soon. I promise.
  8. I'd trade Roussel for Komarov, would even throw in a 5th round pick...
  9. $25,000 for that? For that kind of coin I was expecting a bench clearing brawl with some players going into the stands and throwing their shoes...
  10. The only thing Virtanen has in common with Cam Neely is his jockstrap and the fact that both were born out in the Valley...
  11. Hughes isn't winning any Norris Trophy until he learns how to play defense...
  12. You’d have to add a pick or prospect to get rid of Roussel. He’s almost as untradeable as Eriksson. Benn would get you a 5th round pick. The only two assts on expiring contracts we have that would be of any value to anyone is Sutter and Pearson.
  13. He played Junior in Quebec. So close enough. But yeah not even Montreal will take him now.
  14. We should probably teach our defencemen on how to play defence. Are there coaches out there that specialize in that area?
  15. I agree about Rathbone. If he’s the real deal then it’s a no brainer really...
